ASA Codes
Number Name Brief Description
1 Compliance Used for all marketing communications, must be
legal and not advertise they wrong thing.
Make sure there is no indecent images.
2 Recognition of
marketing
communications
To recognise the correct product being advertised.
When promoting the advert needs to be recognised
as an advert. Use slogans and logos on advert
3 Misleading Adverts You cannot lie about the product or price as it can
cause complaints to the company.
4 Harm and Offence Make sure the product does not offend or harm the
audience watching.
5 Children Cannot promote any bad habits or behaviour when
advertising the product.
6 Privacy If a celebrity or anyone who is included make sure
you have written permission first.
13 Food, food
supplements
and associated
health or nutritional
claims
Make sure that the product being advertised does
not promote poor diets or health towards the
audience.
Cannot promote health benefits without proof.
Mind Map
Coca Cola
advert
My target audience is 16-
19 year olds
Different colours will be
used throughout the
advert
But the main colours
are going to be purple,
blue and red.
I think that these
colours work
together and the
colours can be used
with any seasons
linked with this.
This is the colour theme I am
going with.
The writing of the logo will be
red as it will stand out and grab
attention from the rest of the
colours.
The red also sticks with the coca
cola theme.
The adverts are going to be linked
with Summer. This advert will be
designed to suggest to the audience
that summer is almost here. The
advert will be colourful and happy.
My brand will also be linked
with friends and family to
create comfort towards the
audience knowing there is
meaning behind the brand
making people enjoy it more
I need to make the advert
easy and simple to
recognise what I am
advertising. But I also
need to make it fun and
grab peoples attention.
With the target audience
being 16-19 year olds it
makes it easier to make
the advert suit and
appealing.
Some slogans I am going are
• “Happiness is only a drink away”
• “Open and spread the happiness”
• “No better feeling”
• “The taste that refreshes”
These slogans all suggest
happiness and a drink that
families and people will want to
share.
It also grabs attention as it shares
friendships and love
Mind Map
• Strengths of using this method
– This method is useful because it helps to spread out all your ideas and
cover a load of ideas.
– It makes planning posters or adverts easier as it has all the ideas and
helps to decide how you want the overall product to be.
– Gives you space to share all ideas and keeps everything together
• Weaknesses of using this method
• Harder for people to understand and get your points trying to be made
• A mind map also gives brief ideas on how you want your advert and not
detailed to look back on to understand
• On a mind map you use many ideas to create one so its harder to pick
which ideas you want to use.
• Did you like using this method? Why?
 I like using mind maps because I find it easier to put all my ideas into one
area and helps to but specific points instead of writing/typing things that I
do not need.
Mood Board
Mood Board
• Strengths of using this method
– All ideas can be narrowed down into pictures giving you a good idea of
what you want the final product to look like.
– Having the pictures may create new ideas improving your product.
• Weaknesses of using this method
• Pictures may not match up to the ideas making it harder for you to plan it.
• May not be able to get the ideas across by using pictures.
• Did you like using this method? Why?
 I do like using this method because it helps to see all the ideas and themes
together to see if they all fit and match up with the product you planned.
Style Sheet
Coca Cola
Coca cola
Coca cola
Coca cola
Coca cola
I have chosen these colours because with purple and the blue
fit with my theme of summer as they are bright and stand out
colours.
The colour red is also used because it fits with the coca cola
theme and goes with both of my colours and the summer
colour for my advert.
I have chosen these fonts because they are
similar to the coca cola font and I want to
keep it looking the same so that they
audience knows what I am advertising and
sees what product I am selling.
This is the colour I am using for my logo as it
stands out and is bold to the audience.
Style Sheet
• Strengths of using this method
• The strengths of using a style sheet helps to get an idea of the different colours and
fonts you want to use to advertise.
• It also gives a look on which you think will be better for your audience and which they
will like and stand out to them.
• Weaknesses of using this method
• Some weaknesses of a style sheet is that it may be harder for you to decide which
overall colours you want to use to advertise.
• The fonts may also be harder as it may not be the one you want or one that will appeal
to the audience.
• It is very limited and if you do not like how it came out it can take a lot of time to redo
• Did you like using this method? Why?
• I like using this method because it helps to see a colour scale on which colours you want
to use and you can also try out a load of fonts to see which one fits your advert the best
and appeal to everyone.
Layout Plan
Happiness is only a drink
away
Layout Plan
• Strengths of using this method
– A strength of using a layout plan is that it helps you to see what your
product is going to look like.
– It helps to see whether you like the look of it or not and be able to change
your idea if necessary.
• Weaknesses of using this method
– It shows you what it looks like but if it needs changing then it will take
time having to change your notes and ideas for a new plan.
• Did you like using this method? Why?
• I like this idea as you get to use your ideas to put your advert together and see
what it is going to look like.
• You can see if your colour scheme goes together and if everything looks and
goes together
Brainstorm• There is always a clip of someone drinking a bottle of coke near the end of the advert.
• Everyone seems happy and excited whilst in the video and when drinking the coke by
making them all smiley and the people laughing throughout the advert.
• They all link to family and friends this suggests that coke brings family and friends together
by sharing and being happy.
• They all have upbeat songs used in the background this gives an image to the brand that it is
happy and cheery.
• There is always slogans up at the end of the advert helping them get an image and catchy
slogans for people to remember them by
• The Christmas advert comes around every year and people know its almost Christmas this
helps to excite the audience and get them waiting for the advert to appear on TV.
• They use coke to grab peoples attention so they would roll down a coke can so that it
explodes and then then the male would have to take his top off, this suggests that it brings
people closer together and grabs peoples attention as most people love coke.
• It helps people be adventurous as the adverts are set in different places and can inspire
people to visit places and face fears giving coca cola a good thing as it can help many
people.
• Coca cola have a sharing image so It shows to people that its easy to make friends and share
interests such as coke to start off with.
• Audience (16-19)
• Soundtrack
• Voice over
• Theme
• Narrative
• Sound effects
• Script
• Order
• Timing
• Kit/Props
Brainstorm
• Strengths of using this method
– You can put all your ideas together and go into detail to get a range of
different ideas.
– Get to look at different adverts already used and compare them to get
an idea of key features that need to be used.
• Weaknesses of using this method
• Your advert may sound/look the same as one already used meaning that
there is no original ideas
• Takes a lot of time to look through the adverts and get different and
relevant ideas to use.
• Did you like using this method? Why?
• I think this method is helpful as you are able to get a range of different
ideas and be able to narrow them down to one that is your own.
Group Idea Generation
Informal Pitch
• Strengths of using this method
– A strength is that it gives you an over view of the plan and gives you
positives and negatives and how to improve and what else is needed.
• Weaknesses of using this method
• A weakness is that some of the ideas we thought of may not work or not
needed in the advert meaning we may have to think of other ideas.
• Did you like using this method? Why?
• I like using this method as it helps to improve our work.
• It also helps having someone to look through it and give their ideas.
Group Idea Generation
• Strengths of using this method
• It helps being in groups as you can put all your ideas together and can
work as a team to narrow down to make a advert that everyone will enjoy.
• We are all the same target audience so you can think of ideas that will fit
the audience as we can relate.
• Weaknesses of using this method
• Everyone may have different opinions on what they want
• The group may disagree.
• People in the group maybe less involved than others.
• Did you like using this method? Why?
• I like this method because it uses teamwork and will help with a better
result with a range of ideas.
• You can also get a feel of what its like to work with other people for in the
future.
Group Idea Generation
Timeline
Music starts off
loud, quiet
conversation starts.
Music is dimmed,
conversation gets
louder.
One of us open the
coke bottle and
takes a sip.
One of us says whilst
other drinks “The Taste
That Refreshes”.
After taking the
sip there is a sigh
of relaxation.
We all laugh and
the music gets
louder.
the name of the
product is said and
the final prime
slogan.
We have made this because it helps to organise our advert to make sure that we have
an order to it to follow and sort everything out to make the advert run smoothly and
everyone knows what’s happening.
Formal Pitch
• Strengths of using this method
• A strength of using this method is that you can get a rough idea of the
different things you need to think of when doing the advert
• It helps you to involve everything into your advert to make it appropriate
for your audience.
• Weaknesses of using this method
• Things that need to be included may not be meaning that you need to
work how to include it to fit all audiences.
• Did you like using this method? Why?
• I like using this method because I think it helps you to include certain
things into your advert to make it appropriate for the audiences.
Initial Reaction
• I think that making a game featuring the brand Coca-Cola will be good because it
helps to advertise the product in a fun way and making people get involved by
playing along with the game and have fun. It will appeal well with the target
audience but also everyone else as games are modern and will grab any
generations attention.
• Coca-Cola is a friend and family brand so it tell parents that the game will be
appropriate to there children and know that it is suitable to play as the brand gives
a good image as a product so helps with selling the brand.
• It could help with teaching people with recycling by having the game give that
message across by having the game show different bins for example and show
them which goes in each bin to help
Initial Reaction
• Strengths of using this method
– The strength of the initial reaction is that it gives you space to put all
your ideas on what you want your game to be like. It helps you make
sure the game is appropriate for all audiences.
• Weaknesses of using this method
• A weakness is that you may not have done enough research of the brand
so it will be harder to include some of the brand intentions
• Another is that you might not have planned the game before planning so
it’ll be harder to think of a sort of game that includes Coca-Cola
• Did you like using this method? Why?
• I like using this method because it helps to think and write down the ideas
that you might include into your games to make it as advertising for Coca-
Cola and things that would be good to include.
Sketches
Sketches
• Strengths of using this method
• You can practice drawing in squares to get an idea of how its going to be
when doing the real thing.
• You can do many ideas that will fit with your idea to decide which ones
you want to include.
• Weaknesses of using this method
– The ideas you have may not work with the pixel meaning having to
think of another that will fit with the pixel theme.
• Did you like using this method? Why?
• I like that method because it helps to plan out your ideas to see what will
fit best and what you want to have in your game.
Formal Proposal
• Strengths of using this method
• You can get a look at everyone in the groups ideas of the advert
• It helps to see all the different things that you need to think about and
include in the advert to make it the best it can be for the audience.
• Weaknesses of using this method
• Having to include and think about the different ideas may be hard to
involve making it harder to think of your ideas fast .
• Did you like using this method? Why?
• I like using this method because it helps to make your advert appropriate
for the target audience and keep it simple but detailed.

My brand will also be linked with friends and family to create comfort towards the audience knowing there is meaning behind the brand making people enjoy it more I need to make the advert easy and simple to recognise what I am advertising. But I also need to make it fun and grab peoples attention. With the target audience being 16-19 year olds it makes it easier to make the advert suit and appealing. Some slogans I am going are • “Happiness is only a drink away” • “Open and spread the happiness” • “No better feeling” • “The taste that refreshes” These slogans all suggest happiness and a drink that families and people will want to share. It also grabs attention as it shares friendships and love

The colour red is also used because it fits with the coca cola theme and goes with both of my colours and the summer colour for my advert. I have chosen these fonts because they are similar to the coca cola font and I want to keep it looking the same so that they audience knows what I am advertising and sees what product I am selling. One of us says whilst other drinks “The Taste That Refreshes”. After taking the sip there is a sigh of relaxation. We all laugh and the music gets louder. the name of the product is said and the final prime slogan. It will appeal well with the target audience but also everyone else as games are modern and will grab any generations attention. • Coca-Cola is a friend and family brand so it tell parents that the game will be appropriate to there children and know that it is suitable to play as the brand gives a good image as a product so helps with selling the brand. • It could help with teaching people with recycling by having the game give that message across by having the game show different bins for example and show them which goes in each bin to help
