The document provides an evaluation of Oliver Frost's production of a ride review for the Wicker Man rollercoaster. It includes sections on his research, planning, time management, technical qualities, aural qualities, audience appeal, and peer feedback. The peer feedback suggested adding more sound effects to make the review more engaging and improving the editing and quality of some voice clips. Oliver agreed that adding more sound effects would have strengthened the final product.
3. RESEARCH
• In my research I said that I would like to review Wicker Man as I was
listening to peoples review on the ride. This inspired me to review it as
it is a good ride in my opinion and it recently opened. A strength of my
research is that I knew what to talk about in my review because of
listening to different reviews. Such as they all talk about the theming
and that the second and third review talked about the journey of the
ride and the soundtrack. A weakness was that because there is a lot of
aspects of the ride that I could of talked about but because of the time
limit I had to talk about the main parts quicker than go into detail of
each of the aspects of the ride.
4. PLANNING
• In my Initial Plans my 3 options were a ghost story, a video game review or
a theme park or ride review podcast. I chose the ride review podcast
which I changed to just a ride review as I know quite a lot of information
of rollercoasters as it is interesting to me. I said will talk about other
peoples reviews however this didn't’ happen in the final product. In my
experiment I did my morning routine and when doing that I used the Easy
Voice Recorder app that I used for my final product. A strength was that it
gave me a good idea on how to make a script for my final product. A
weakness would be that I didn’t like speaking to myself as it didn’t feel
right listening to my own voice. In my Pre-Production I found the SFX and
music and downloaded them so I could save them for the production. I
would also be using the app that I used for my experiment. I don’t believe
that they were any weaknesses to my pre-production as I had my SFX and
music ready for production and all the other parts of the PowerPoint to a
good standard.
5. TIME MANAGEMENT
• I managed my time well as I already had my sound effects and music
ready from the pre-production and over the half term I recorded my
voice clips. All I had to do was go into premiere and put the clips
together. However I did use the compressor settings as my clips were
either too loud or too quiet as I had finished putting my clips together.
I did my script before my pre-production and it didn’t take too long as I
had knowledge of the ride and I had also watched/listened to different
reviews which gave me some influence. I don’t think I would of
needed much more time as I finished quite quickly as I had my sound
effects and music ready to be put into premiere.
6. TECHNICAL QUALITIES
My Wicker Man Review
Coaster Studios Wicker Man Review
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=
q5SywJ7aFro&t=81s
A similarity of these 2 is that we talk about similar points of the rollercoaster such as the
theming . In the Coaster Studios review they talk about more points as they don’t have a
time limit of 5 minutes. They also have an intro to their review. Another difference is that
his was a video with footage of the ride and statistics of the ride in the top corner of the
video which in my one I use sound effects to describe the ride. A similarity is that we both
express our opinions of the rollercoaster. A similarity is that we both have fade in effect
for our reviews as well.
7. AURAL QUALITIES
• I think that my review sounds great however it could be improved by using
better quality voice recorders instead of my phone to record my voice clips. I
took my sound effects when I did my pre-production and shortened them
down to make them fit before I recorded my voice clips which could of turned
out bad however it turned out better than expected and I like that the most
because I didn't have to re-edit some of the sound effects. I was quite creative
by adding the fire sound effect after talking about the main selling point of the
ride and adding the crowd sound effect as I am talking about the queue line to
simulate that people are queuing up for the ride. Overall I think that my
review could have been better however it sounds quite good.
8. AUDIENCE APPEAL
• My product will appeal to my primary audience of 10+ as I haven't used any
offensive language in my review. I also have a bit of interesting information
and the soundtrack for the people that want to know about the ride or if they
are going to experience the ride. My audience would be Belongers/Emulators,
mixed gender and middle class or lower class. I made my primary audience
10+ because most people of 10+ would be able to ride the rollercoaster.
Belongers/Emulators because theme park enthusiasts, people visiting the park
and theme park managers may want to see what people thought of the ride.
Mixed genders as anyone can ride the rollercoaster. Lower or middle class as
lower may not be able to go to the theme park to ride the rollercoaster or
middle because they can go to the theme parks and ride the rollercoaster.
10. FEEDBACK 1
• What did you like about the product?
• I like the how they provide a lot of information about the ride such as theming and
the journey of the ride in such a short amount of time. I like the placement of the
different sound effects.
• What improvements could have been made to the product?
• I think they should of used way more sound effects as the places where there isn't
any it is quite boring. Some of the voice clips seem rushed and others not said well.
11. FEEDBACK 2
• What did you like about the product?
• I like the creativity of the review such as the sound of the people in the queue line
while he is talking about he queue line. I like where the sound clips are placed and
how they go well with the voice clips.
• What improvements could have been made to the product?
• More sound effects or music as it would make the review sound better.
12. FEEDBACK 3
• What did you like about the product?
• I liked the sound effects that you have chosen work really well with the voice clips.
• What improvements could have been made to the product?
• The editing could have been better as well as you could of added more sound
effects.
13. PEER FEEDBACK SUMMARY
• What do you agree with from your peer feedback?
• I agree that I should of added more sound effects as it does sound quite baron
with my voice just talking. I also agree that some of the voice clips were rushed but
I did redo some clips and the ones that I chose were the best. I would of also liked
to edit it better.
• What do you disagree with from your peer feedback?
• I don’t necessarily disagree with any of my feedback on the as the people gave
mostly good points of the review and nothing I would disagree on.
14. PEER FEEDBACK SUMMARY
• In my feedback 1 they said that I have provided good information and that
they liked the placement of my sound effects. They said they liked the
placement of my sound effects however they thought I didn’t have enough
sound effects. They also said that I had rushed my voice clips. In feedback 2
they said they liked the creativity of the review because of the sound clips that
go with the voice clips. They also said they would like more sound clips. In
feedback 3 they said that my sound effects worked well with the voice clips
and that the editing could have been better and that more sound effects are
needed. Overall if I could do the product again I would add more sound effects
into it as I thought the same thing.
