Two types of industrial property are frequently registered at the
University of Seville for scientific or technical inventions :
Patents and Utility Models.
The Law 11/1986 on Patents establishes that “will be protected as
Utility Models those inventions which, being new and involving an
inventive activity, give an object, a configuration, structure or
composition resulting in a significant improvement in its practical use or
manufacture”.
Utility Models are valid during 10 years from the date of application

Protection Regulations of the US:
“The University of Seville is the holder of the inventions realized by its professors as
result of their teaching and research activities at the University.”

Inventors get in touch with the Secretariat to communicate their invention through
a series of forms (Formulating the Invention and Declaration of Inventors)
The secretariat makes an assessment of the patentability of the invention.
If considered patentable, a preliminary report on the state of the art of
the invention will be realized.
A technical report will be written.
A priority application will be introduced to the Spanish Patents
and Trademarks Office.
