What is TALIS? TALIS is provides a voice for teachers and school leaders to give input into policy development in their countries. It is a collaborative effort between governments in participating countries, the OECD, social partners such as teachers’ unions and an international research consortium. TALIS is a self-reporting survey uses a representative sample of teachers and schools that are randomly selected to participate in each country. Finally, TALIS fills key national and international data gaps on teachers, teaching and the impact that teachers can have on student learning.

- TALIS helps governments address issues related to improving the quality of their teaching workforce. It provides cross-country analysis that helps countries identify others facing similar policy challenges.The robust TALIS dataset allows for continued analyses on a variety of key indicators, both nationally and internationally.
- TALIS asks teachers and schools about their working conditions and the learning environments at their schools. It covers important themes such as initial teacher education and professional development; what sort of appraisal and feedback teachers get; the school climate; school leadership; and teachers’ instructional beliefs and pedagogical practices.
