BASIC RULES IN ITINERARY PLANNING
MRS. CATRINA SANTOS
BASIC RULES IN ITINERARY PLANNING
The are three basic rules to follow
-CRISSCROSSING,
-BACKTRACKING,
-MINIMIZE THE USE OF VARIED AIRLINE
FR
Add a footer 17
1. AVOID CRISSCROSSING
-Crisscrossing or going and passing a
destination back and fort must be avoided .
This is a waste of time and may spell more
expenses for the travel
FR
EXAMPLE:
Mrs. Llynne Cosme is traveling to three
different places. This is part of her leisure
travel in Asia. She planned it herself and
this is how her flight itinerary was planned
initially.
FR

FRCRISSCROSS FLIGHT ARE PLANNED THIS WAY
MNL-PNH-HKH-BWN-MNL
MS. CONSE CONSULTED A TMC
MNL-HKG-PHN-BWN-MNL
OR MNL-BWN-PHN-HKG-MNL
FR
TMC personell shows expertise when
they are able to correct and offer better
flight itinerary planning.
Ideal flight itinerary planning does not
only apply to international flights. TMC
personnel must be familiar with domestic
routes too as there are travellers who seek
their assistance even for domestic flight.
FR
EXAMPLE of DOMESTIC
Friends jack and Michael wanted to
have a domestic tour. They planned the
following itinerary without consulting a
map. More so a TMC personnel: MNL-CEB-
LGP-ILO-MNL.
FR
Add a footer 24
2. AVOID BACKTRACKING
FR
EXAMPLE:
Ms. Llynne Cosme plans to have a
second Asian trip after two months but by
this time she is bringing her friend along.
She particularly loves Cambodia that is
why she included PNH again in her
itinerary . She initially made her second
trip in the manner shown in the table.
FR
Add a footer 26
FLIGHT ITINERARY SHOWING BACKTRACKING
City-Pairs Possible Carrier
MNL-RGN Singapore Airline(SQ)
RGN-SGN Vietnam Airlines(VN)
SGN-PNH Jetstar(JQ)
PNH-MNL Thai Airways(TG)
FRBACKTRACKING FLIGHT ARE PLANNED THIS WAY
MNL-RGN-SGN-PHN-MNL
TRAVEL ADIVISORY HELPED HER PLAN AN
IDEAL FLIGHT ITINERARY SINCE THEIR
SCHEDULE IS FLEXIBLE.
MNL-SGN-RGN-PHN-MNL
OR MNL-SGN-PHN-RGN-MNL
FR
Add a footer 28
3.MINIMIZE THE USE OF VARIED AIRLINES
The two table previously shown illustrate the
different flight selections of Ms.Cosme.first
table Shows a better planning as it uses two
carriers only while the next table illustrate the
use of four different carriers until she reached
her final destination. This is inconvenient for
ms. Cosme, as she will be utilizing different
carriers and may possibly be costly.
FR
Add a footer 29
3.MINIMIZE THE USE OF VARIED AIRLINES
It is better and less troublesome for a traveller
to take direct flights as much as possible than
take connecting or many flights during the
course of his travel
