2. • What is Geography?
• Distinguish physical geography
from human geography
• Understand the key concepts in
learning geography
3. The word Geography came from two Greek words
"geo" (Earth) and "graphos" (to write). Geography
literally means description about Earth.
4. Geography is the science that studies the
features of the Earth and its connection
to people and the environment.
5. Studies the structure of the
environment including climate,
landforms, and other natural
patterns.
Studies the effect of human behavior
on the environment. It also includes
looking at cultural, economic, and
political impacts.
6. Movement looks at how
people connect. How are
ideas, technology, and
culture are being passed on?
This refers to a place or
position on the Earth's surface.
A location can either be
absolute (exact), or relative (in
relation to other locations).
How do you describe the
physical attribute of a location?
How do people in a specific
location behave?
This shows the interactions
between humans and the
physical environment.
Regions are places that have
common physical and human
attributes. This can be a formal
region (cities, districts, countries,
etc) or functional regions.
7. Think of which geographical theme
interests you. Create a poster or
infographic about it, and if can find
something that connects it to your
own area, add that too.
