Water Done by: The smart surfers ~ Nupur, Winnie, ZhiXuan
What is water? ,[object Object]
Water is one of the most common substances on the Earth. Covering over 70% of the surface of the Earth, it is easy to find. Even in a desert, it is not hard to find water, if you know where to look. ,[object Object]
Water is all around us, in the air and in the ground. It is in milk, vegetables, fruit, meat, leaves, trunks, roots, and branches of a tree; it is even in stones.
Water is used for many things:
To drink: people should drink 8 glasses of water each day to stay healthy.
To cook things in (eggs, vegetables); to use in things we cook (cakes, soup).
To play in: pools, ponds, lakes, oceans; or to play with when using hoses, sprayers, or sprinklers. ,[object Object]
The three states of water Water as solid Ice, snow, and frost are examples of water in the solid state. Liquid water freezes at 0 degrees Celsius. Winter is a season that you see a lot of solid water. Other examples of solid water are ice cubes, icicles, ice on a skating rink. Water as a Gas You don't see anything because gas is invisible. Water in the liquid state may change to water in the gaseous state. Water evaporates to turn into a gas. Gases are colourless and odourless. You cannot see gas ,but sometimes you can hear it and smell it. What are some ways that you can hear or smell a gas?
The water cycle
Evaporation Evaporation is when the sun heats up water in rivers or lakes or the ocean and turns it into vapour or steam. The water vapour or steam leaves the river, lake or ocean and goes into the air.
Condensation Water vapour in the air gets cold and changes back into liquid, forming clouds. This is called condensation. You can see the same sort of thing at home... pour a glass of cold water on a hot day and watch what happens.  Water forms on the outside of the glass.  That water didn't somehow leak through the glass!  It actually came from the air.  Water vapour in the warm air, turns back into liquid when it touches the cold glass.
Precipitation Precipitation occurs when so much water has condensed that the air cannot hold it anymore.  The clouds get heavy and water falls back to the earth in the form of rain, hail, sleet or snow.

  • 16. When doing laundry, match the water level to the size of the load. There are many other ways to conserve water which can be used
  • 17. How is Singapore conserving water? Water supply and sanitation in Singapore is characterized by a number of achievements in the challenging environment of a densely populated island. Access to water is universal, affordable, efficient and of high quality. There have also been campaigns to urge people to conserve water, reducing consumption from 165 litres per person per day in 2003 to 155 litres in 2009. The target is to lower it to 140 litres by 2030.
  • 18. Why is conserving water important? As our population grows, more and more people are using up this limited resource. Therefore, it is important that we use our water wisely and not waste it. So let us do our part and conserve water!
  • 19. The end And Thank you for your cooperation!
