INTRODUCTION
TVS was established by Mr TV Sundaram Iyengar. He began with delhi first bus
service in 1911 and founded T. V. Sundaram Iyengar and Sons Limited , a company
in the transportation business with a large fleet of trucks and buses under the name
of Southern Roadways Limited . When he died in 1955 , his sons took the company

manufacture mopeds as part of their new division. In 1980, TVS 50, India's first two-seater

enhanced features focus on the fuel efficiency of the motorcycle. In 2017 TVS Motor
Company has launched TVS Sport with the BS-IV engine which comes with a large fuel tank
with 10 -litre capacity. It is one of the high fuel tank capacity model in the 100cc segment in
Indian motorcycle market.
The 2017 TVS Sport is suspended over standard telescopic forks up front and 5-step
adjustable twin shocks in the rear. The bike measures 1,950 mm in length, 705 mm in width,
1,080 in height with a ground clearance of 170 mm. The Brakes include a 130mm drum in
the front and a 110 mm unit in the rear. The all gear electric start enables the vehicle to start
at any gear. The vehicle sports body graphics, chrome plated exhaust muzzle and a compact
taillight. TVS Sport comes with a 4 stroke Duralife engine, and powered by a 99.7cc single
cylinder motor. TVS Sport’s Duralife Engine comes with Roller Cam Follower Technology
that reduces friction and provides less stress on the engine leading to more efficient fuel
consumption as stated by the company. This engine enables a churning out 7.8 PS of peak
power 7,500 rpm and 7.8 Nm of maximum torque at 5,500 rpm.
12. 12
TVS APACHE
The TVS Apache is a motorcycle made by TVS Motors since 2006. TVS Apache is available
in four variants: Apache RTR 160 Hyper edge, Apache RTR 180, Apache RTR 180 ABS and
Apache RTR 200 4V. The "RTR" in the name stands for "Racing Throttle Response". More
than 2 million Apaches are on the road. The Apache is the first bike in India with a petal disc
brake, which offers better heat dispersion thereby allowing fewer brake fades. The bike
evolved from Circa 1999 Suzuki Fiero which TVS used to manufacture in India. It is TVS's
R&D on Fiero model with an overbore on 147 cc Fiero Engine.Since the bike is optimized
for handling, the ride quality is on the stiff side. Previous versions of Apache had a wheelbase
of 1,260 mm (50 inches) which resulted in better turning in at the expense of stability. TVS
increased the wheelbase by 40 mm (1.6 inches) to improve the stability. The Apache 180
introduced ABS to the lineup in 2011. The Apache RTR 180 ABS has a carbureted 180 cc
engine. The engine is of short stroke nature, because of which Apache has higher acceleration
figures than other bikes of similar displacement. It does 0–60 km/h in 3.9 seconds and 0–
100 km/h in 12.07 seconds. Its top speed is 136 km/h, and it returns 48 km/l (150 mpg
(Imperial/UK) or 2.08 l/100 km) on the highway and 40 km/l (110 mpg or 2.5 l/100 km) in
city riding.
13. 13
JIVE
TVS Motors has launched India’s first auto-clutch motorcycle which is set to transform the
very definition of city commuter biking. Christened TVS Jive, the new motorcycle is
propelled by a 110cc engine which features T-Matic technology featureing a rotary gear
technology coupled with an automatic clutch. The bike’s four speed engine with 8.1bhp @
7500Rpm and a torque of 8.1Nm @ 5500Rpm and a light weight at 110 Kgs makes it
convenient to handle. Alloy wheels complement the bikes wheelbase of 1260mm which has a
fuel tank capacity of 12 litres with two litres as reserve. TVS Jive is priced at Rs 41, 000 (ex-
showroom, Chennai) and is available in red, blue and black colours.
One of the major features of the TVS Jive is the absence of the clutch lever, making riding on
this motorcycle a hands free gear shift experience. The bike therefore can be ridden by almost
anyone who has a sense of balance as there is no need for manual clutch-gear co-ordination
while shifting. A unique feature of this motorcycle is its anti-stall mechanism which makes
smooth riding possible at low speeds even in high gears, without the engine shutting off. The
downward rotary gear system enables the rider to reach neutral straight from top gear. The
14. 14
bike can be started in any gear and is fitted with an electric start for convenience. It is also the
first
motorcycle in the country to have an under seat storage space which can hold a water bottle,
vehicle documents and even a small umbrella.
TVS WEGO
TVS introduces a customer focused and a novel braking technology for its scooters and calls
it Sync Braking System. The Sync Braking System was first introduced in the TVS Wego and
has now made it to the largest selling TVS scooter, the Jupiter as well. TVS confirms that
Sync Braking System will be offered across all variants of the Jupiter and Wego.
The Sync Braking System automatically activates the front brake whenever the rear brake is
applied, thereby enhancing the braking abilities of the vehicle. While doing so, a single brake
control mechanism called the MULTIPLIER is triggered, which distributes the input force to
both the wheels.
This braking feature reduces the force required drastically while braking, thereby improving
brake efficiency. Through the activation of single brake control (rear brake) the rider enjoys
perfect braking, while the Sync Braking System takes charge of perfect balance between the
two wheels.
15. 15
Both the TVS Jupiter and Wego are powered by a 109.7cc single-cylinder air-cooled engine
that produces 7.8 HP and 8 Nm of torque (in the Jupiter) and 8.4 Nm of torque (in the Wego).
Both the powertrains come paired to a standard CVT gearbox.
TVS JUPITER
.
TVS Jupiter is Launched in 2013, it is the second highest selling automatic scooter in the
country after the Honda Activa which was launched in 2001. The market leader has already
crossed the milestone of 15 million unit sales with 2.7 million units sold in the last financial
year only.Commenting on this achievement, Aniruddha Haldar, Vice President (Marketing)
Commuter Motorcycles, Scooters and Corporate Brand, TVS Motor Company, said, "It
brings us immense delight to see that TVS Jupiter is surpassing milestone after milestone
since its launch. This milestone is special as we now have 20 lakh happy customers in the
TVS Jupiter family."
TVS Jupiter is powered by a 110cc engine that claims to deliver a remarkable mix of power,
superior acceleration and best-in-class fuel efficiency. The metal bodied, TVS Jupiter gets a
very decent styling that has been designed to suit most of the members of an Indian family.
The scooter also gets Sync Braking System (SBS) promising a safer riding experience.

COMPETITORS ANALYSIS
HERO MOTORS
BAJAJ AUTO
HONDA MOTORS
HERO MO TORS
Hero MotoCorp is the World's single largest two–wheeler motorcycle company. Honda
Motor Company of Japan and the Hero Group entered a joint venture to setup Hero Honda
Motors Limited in 1984. The joint venture between India's Hero Group and Honda Motor
17. 17
Company, Japan has not only created the world's single largest two wheeler company but also
one of the most successful joint ventures worldwide.
During the 80s, Hero Honda became the first company in India to prove that it was possible
to drive a vehicle without polluting the roads. The company introduced new generation
motorcycles that set industry benchmarks for fuel thrift and low emission. A legendary 'Fill it
– Shut it – Forget it' campaign captured the imagination of commuters across India, and Hero
Honda sold millions of bikes purely on the commitment of increased mileage.
Over 20 million Hero Honda two wheelers tread Indian roads today. These are almost as
many as the number of people in Finland, Ireland and Sweden put together. Hero Honda has
consistently grown at double digits since inception; and today, every second motorcycle sold
in the country is a Hero Honda. Every 30 seconds, someone in India buys Hero Honda's top –
selling motorcycle – Splendor. This festive season, the company sold half a million two
wheelers in a single month—a feat unparalleled in global automotive history.
Hero Honda became the first company in the country to introduce four–stroke motorcycles
and set the standards for fuel efficiency, pollution control and quality. It has an excellent
distribution and service network spread throughout the country.
Hero Honda bikes currently roll out from its three globally benchmarked manufacturing
facilities. Two of these are based at Dharuhera and Gurgaon in Haryana and the third state of
the art manufacturing facility was inaugurated at Haridwar, Uttrakhand in April this year.
These plants together are capable of producing out 4.4 million units per year.
Having reached an unassailable pole position in the Indian two wheeler market, Hero Honda
is constantly working towards consolidating its position in the market place. The company
18. 18
believes that changing demographic profile of India, increasing urbanization and the
empowerment of rural India will add millions of new families to the economic mainstream.
This would provide the growth ballast that would sustain Hero Honda in the years to come.
As Brijmohan Lall Munjal, the Chairman, Hero Honda Motors succinctly points out, 'We
pioneered India's motorcycle industry, and it's our responsibility now to take the industry to
the next level. We'll do all it takes to reach there.''
Hero MotoCorp has five manufacturing facilities based at Dharuhera, Gurgaon, Neemrana,
Haridwar and Halol under Green Field stage. These plants together have a production
capacity of 7.6 million+ 2-wheelers per year. Hero MotoCorp has a sales and service network
with over 6,000 dealerships and service points across India. It has a customer loyalty program
since 2000, called the Hero Honda Passport Program which is now known as Hero GoodLife
Program.
It is reported that Hero MotoCorp has five joint ventures or associate companies, Munjal
Showa, AG Industries, Sunbeam Auto, Rockman Industries and Satyam Auto Components,
that supply a majority of its components.
The company has a stated aim of achieving revenues of $10 billion and volumes of 10 million
two-wheelers by 2016–17. This in conjunction with new countries where they can now
market their two-wheelers following the disengagement from Honda. Hero MotoCorp hopes
to achieve 10 per cent of their revenues from international markets, and they expected to
launch sales in Nigeria by end-2011 or early-2012.
19. 19
HERO PLEASURE
It was the first scooter manufactured by Hero Honda, traditionally a motorcycle company,
and was received very positively. As of 2013, it sells in the range of 40000 units per month,
and is second only to the Honda Activa in a rapidly growing scooter segment. The Pleasure
was unique at a marketing level more than at a product level. It was positioned sharply as a
women's scooter with the brand tagline "Why should boys have all the fun?" It thus polarized
the entire scooter market, with offerings being positioned either specifically male or female.
The Pleasure thus carved a niche for itself, and quickly went on to capture almost 17% of the
market in a short
space of time. The Pleasure is an automatic scooter manufactured in India by Hero
Honda since 2006. The Pleasure features a 100cc engine with variomatic drive transmission
system and an engine swing arm suspension system. 2013 saw a number of improvements in
the Pleasure, and included a Pleasure Limited edition and the All New Pleasure.

BAJAJ AUTO
Bajaj Auto Limited is a global two-wheeler and three-wheeler manufacturing
company. Bajaj Auto manufactures and sells motorcycles, scooters and auto rickshaws. Bajaj
Auto is a part of the Bajaj Group. It was founded by Jamnalal Bajaj in Rajasthan in the 1940s.
It is based in Pune, Mumbai, with plants in Chakan (Pune), Waluj (near Aurangabad)
and Pantnagar in Uttarakhand. The oldest plant at Akurdi (Pune) now houses the R&D centre
'Ahead'.
Bajaj Auto is the world's sixth-largest manufacturer of motorcycles and the second-largest in
India.It is the world's largest three-wheeler manufacturer.
On May 2015, its market capitalization was ₹640 billion (US$10 billion), making it India's
23rd largest publicly traded company by market value. The Forbes Global 2000 list for the
year 2012 ranked Bajaj Auto at 1,416.
In 2007 Bajaj claims patent infringement against TVS at Chennai High Court. Single judge of
Madras HC issued a temporary injunction on 16th February, 2008 of the manufacture and
sale of TVS Bikes with alleged infringed twin spark TVS files a section 106 suit before the
Madras High Court, claiming that Bajaj is making “groundless threats of patent
infringement” and that the court should declare that TVS does not infringe Far from issuing
23. 23
such a declaration, the Madras High Court restrains(injects) TVS, albeit to a limited extent (it
could execute pending orders, but couldn’t take fresh orders for bikes).
TVS asks for a vacation of said injunction and a Division Bench of the same High Court
agrees and vacates the injunction.
Bajaj then appealed at the Supreme court against the Madras Division bench decision and the
supreme Court issued an interim order allowing TVS to manufacture but restrained it from
selling till final order is passed.
BAJAJ XCD 125 DTS-Si
Bajaj Auto Limited was granted Indian Patent No.195904 in respect of a patent application
titled "An Improved Internal combustion engine working on four stroke principle" with a
priority date of 16thJuly 2002.The said invention relates to the use of twin spark plugs for
efficient combustion of lean air fuel mixture in small bore ranging from 45 mm to 70mm
internal combustion engine working on 4 stroke Principle.
24. 24
BajajPulsar
The Bajaj Pulsar is a motorcycle brand owned by Bajaj Auto in India. The two wheeler was
developed by the product engineering division of Bajaj Auto in association with Tokyo R&D,
and later with motorcycle designer Glynn Kerr. Currently there are five variants available,
with engine capacities of 135 cc, 150 cc, 180 cc, 200 cc, 220 cc and 400 cc (Renamed
Dominar before release) Previously it was also offered with a 200 cc DTS-i oil cooled engine,
which now has been discontinued. Instead a new version Pulsar 200NS was launched in
2012. But then Pulsar 200NS production was discontinued in August 2015 (to be
reintroduced in early 2017 with BS IV Emission compliance). With average monthly sales of
around 86,000 units in 2011, Pulsar claimed a 2011 market share of 47% in its segment. By
April 2012, more than five million units of Pulsar were sold.
Before the introduction of the Pulsar, the Indian motorcycle market trend was towards fuel
efficient, small capacity motorcycles (that formed the 80–125 cc class). Bigger motorcycles
with higher capacity virtually did not exist (except for Enfield Bullet with 350cc and 500cc
variants). The launch and success of Hero Honda CBZ in 1999 showed that there was
demand for performance bikes. Bajaj took the cue from there on and launched the Pulsar
25. 25
twins in India on 24 November 2001.Since the introduction and success of Bajaj Pulsar,
Indian youth began expecting high power and other features from affordable motorcycles.
The project was faced with internal resistance, reservations by Mckinsey and doubts on its
effects on Bajaj's relation with Kawasaki. The project required approximately 36 months for
completion and cost Bajaj ₹ 1 billion. DTSi stands for Digital Twin Spark Ignition, a Bajaj
Auto trademark. Bajaj Auto holds an Indian patent for the DTSi technology. The Alfa Romeo
Twin-Spark engines, the BMW F650 Funduro which was sold in India from 1995 to 1997
also had a twin-spark plug technology, and the Rotax motorcycle engines, more recently
Honda's iDSI Vehicle engines use a similar arrangement of two spark-plugs. However very
few small capacity engines did eventually implement such a scheme in their production
prototypes.
SALES
September 2017 has been a positive month for Bajaj Auto with the company reporting a
14 per cent increase in total sales at 4,28,752 units, as compared to 3,76,765 units sold
26. 26
during the same period last year. The Pune-based two-wheeler maker registered its
highest ever sales in 18 months with exports outperforming domestic sales. While
domestic sales for two and three-wheelers grew at an overall 10 per cent at 281,779

SALES
Coming to the largest sellers, the Honda Activa continues to be the unchallenged No. 1 by a
massive margin and does not look to be in danger of losing that spot in the near- as well as
not-so-near future. The company sold a total of 335,595 scooters under its Activa brand,

SUGGESTION
In this study I came to known that there are more two-wheeler companies manufacturing
different type of vehicles. As the time is changing the demand and preference are also
changing very rapidly, so if the companies want to survive in the competitive market, they
have produce
the good and services as per the needs of customers to delight them .
The TVS MOTOR company selling different model of bike should also concentrate on
higher end bikes like Apache RTR 180 , Flame DS 125 , flame TVS Jive staR city , sport
, Wego , scooty Teenz , XL super , TVS XL Heavy Duty to increase its fuel efficiency so
that the customers will be benefited with this efficient feature .
