value of any object is subjective...
                       The
...determined by the gaze through which the object is looked at.

Our team chose to exploit the value of bread
from a micro to macro level,
                                from micro-organism to human being.

                                        We were curious to explore
how the bread is experienced and
                             how its perceived value changes.
Somewhere...
...nearby the moist surface of a single slice of bread
“Wow!!! Food and water...
We can build a home here!”
“The temperature is also perfect for us to reproduce!”
“Look! There is
a wall of bacteria!”
                                                       “Let’s attack its
                                                       cell membrane and
                                                          destroy it!”

1 slice of bread can host innumerable spores as it provides them food,
water and a desirable environment for reproducing.
“We have built a
 wonderful MOLD!
We can live here
 for a lifetime!”

For spores, the loaf of bread is not just a food...it is a community
built by thousands of spores!
And they actively protect this community agians outsiders like bacteria!
“Did I hear right??
            These things can
         kill life threatening
              bacteria!!”

Alexander Fleming - Discovered Penicillin from a mold
Penicillin is an Infection -fighting agent of enormous potency
EVERY crumb has value
Ants appear to operate as a unified entity, collectively working
together to support the colony. Ants use bread crumbs as
                       nourishment.
Ants are typically very resourceful. Nothing goes to
                 waste in a colony.
Bread is harmful to birds.
Bread fed to birds often lack vital nutrients which
                    birds need.
=

For a bird, bread would mean poison
'Hadron Collider once broke down because a passing
            bird dropped bread on it'
Of those creatures that consume bread,
humans are the only ones who also
have the ability to create it... in different ways!
The Whole is Greater than the Sum of its Parts

                     Humans have the ability
to see bread as more than just nourishment,
more than just a handful of ingredients
                 unlike fungus,ants or birds.

Scope: 1 loaf of bread can feed 1 person
                    multiple times, or 1 family.
Bread is a staple sustenance in many cultures.

However, if in some countries bread is found everywhere,
being only a small part of one’s nutrition
in other parts of the world, bread could be considered as a ‘luxury’.
The symbolism of bread in religion, its metaphorical values,
                                         ...

Christianity:
A “loaf of bread” refers to Christ’s body.

English:
My dad is a "breadwinner" = My dad is the one who makes the money for
                                my family

Your "bread and butter" = someone's basic income
(as in the "bread and butter" of the man's work as a bartender came in his tips)

Romanian:
My mom is like “Christ’s bread” = My mom is a very kind person
... or even its presence in different crafts, they all contribute
complexifying the perceived value of the bread.

1. 2. 3.

4. 5. 6. 7.
     1. Bread Dress/Sung Yeonju, 2. Toast Mural/Maurice “Toastman” Bennet, 3. Pita Bread Pencil Holder imitating bread/ Mohar Design
in colaboration with Baruch Nogilevsky, 4.Van Gogh's ‘Starry Night’, embroidered wonder bread/Catherine Mcever,
                                 5. Bread Art/ BreadArt.biz, 6.Breaded Cat, 7. Bread Shoes / DADADA Studio
In the end, we all are bread creators and bread consumers!
THANK YOU!
