Our Proposal
• Innovation Management is not a standard subject, it requires either
research, investigation and most important practical experience on the
field. In this sense, the approach we propose reflects these requirements.
• The most critical phase of an innovative project is the initiation phase, also
called “the fuzzy front end”.
• The front-end is an important part of a successful innovation process. The
front-end comprises the early and above all creative phases of the
innovation process and provides the innovation concepts and business
plans for the product development and implementation process.
• The quality of the work in the front-end is decisive for the success of
innovation, because here the opportunities for innovation are identified,
analyzed and worked out.
• Our approach focuses mainly on the initiation phase.

Why ATC
• ATC has collected 10+ years of experience in developing
high-quality critical modules in the aerospace industry, more
specifically accessory and power gearboxes for
aeroengines, probably the most critical parts of an airplane.
• Moreover, I am New Product Development Professional
(NPDP) Certified by the Product Development and
Management Association (PDMA), an internationally
recognized body of knowledge, which focuses on the
fundamental principles that underpin successful product
development across a broad range of industries.

The Approach
• Our execution strategy incorporates proven methodologies,
extremely qualified personnel, and a highly responsive approach to
managing deliverables.
• Our execution strategy aims primarily to provide the organization the
right methodology and tools to deliver innovative projects with a
higher success rate.
• The approach includes all required phased that lead to the
generation of a Product Innovation Charter, a critical strategic
document, the heart of any organized effort to commercialize a new
product. It contains the reasons the project has been started, the
goals, objectives, guidelines, and boundaries of the project. It is the
"who, what, where, when and why" of the product development
project.

The Approach
The approach consists in mainly 2 phases:
1. a first part of training, where the global approach and
single tools are described;
2. a second part of application, where the tools are applied
on a real project.

Idea Generation
• Idea generation is described as the process of creating,
developing and communicating abstract, concrete or visual
ideas. Although Idea Generation is creative phase, it can be even
more effective by using some tools like, but not limited to:
• Brainstorming
• SWOT
• SCAMPER
• PESTLE
• TRIZ
• A first introductory will describe the main tools.
• Following, these tools will be applied on a real project.

Concept Selection
• Concept selection is the process of evaluating concepts with respect to
customer needs and other criteria, comparing the relative strengths and
weaknesses of the concepts, and selecting one or more concepts for
further investigation, testing, or development.
• Concept selection includes both financial and non-financial analysis.
• Financial evaluation is then based on one of the basic financial
indicators:
• Net Present Value (NPV)
• Internal Rate of Return (IRR)
• Return on Investment (ROI)
• Payback period
• Non-financial evaluation is based on a first screening, called pass-fail
approach, and more detailed evaluation, called scoring approach.

Concept Protection
• Concept Protection deals with Intellectual Property Rights
(IPR). IPR include patents, copyrights, industrial design
rights, trademarks, plant variety rights, trade dress,
geographical indications, and in some jurisdictions trade
secrets.
• It is fundamental, before starting to develop a new
product, to answer the following questions:
• Am I allowed to develop the product? In other words,
do I have the Freedom to Operate?
• If yes, is it worth to protect my Intellectual Property?
• If yes, what is the best way to protect it?

Requirements Definition
• Once the concept has been selected and protected, it is
important to specify product requirements.
• This iterative phase is critical for the success of the
product: indeed, more details are added to our concept,
which can lead to a modification or even a change of the
selected concept.
• In this sense, the Quality Function Deployment and the
Kano Model are useful tools.

Risk Assessment
• Risk Assessment is a term used to describe the overall
process or method where you:
• Identify hazards and risk factors that have the
potential to cause harm (hazard identification);
• Analyze and evaluate the risk associated with that
hazard (risk analysis, and risk evaluation).

Implementation Plan
• A preliminary plan is necessary to estimate resources,
costs and time schedule.
• Gantt Chart is the most widely used tool in this sense.

The Product Innovation Charter
• The Product Innovation Charter it is the heart of any
organized effort to commercialize a new product and
contains the reasons the project has been started, the
goals, objectives, guidelines, and boundaries of the
project.
• It is the “who, what, where, when and why” of the product
development project.
