2. Background
• Anaemia is a condition resulting from an inadequate number of
erythrocytes
• It is characterized by a decrease in the amount of haemoglobin (Hb)
• Anamia is estimated to affects 38% (32.4 million) of pregnant women
aged 15–49 years
• anaemic condition may be considered as severe, mild or moderate
• In pregnant women, Hb ≤10.9 g/dl; mild anaemia, Hb ≤ 9.9 g/dl;
moderate anaemia and Hb < 7 g/dl (severe anaemia),
• Anaemia in pregnancy, is associated with low birth weight and high
risk of preterm delivery

• Determine the prevalence of anaemia among pregnant women
seeking antenatal care (ANC) at Adabraka Polyclinic
• Specific Objectives
• determine the anaemia in pregnant women
• Establish the clinical factors related to anaemia in pregnancy
• Establish the severity of anaemia in pregnancy

4. Problem statement
• Anemia prevalence data remains an important indicator in public
health
• Anaemia among pregnant women in Ghana is on the rise, from 34%
in 2014 to 37% in 2016
• The lack of evidence is limiting the fight against anaemia in pregnancy

5. Justification
• Help determine the extent of anaemia in pregnancy
• Establish the progress and success of reproductive health
• Help step up efforts in the fight against anaemia

6. Methods
• Study design : descriptive cross-sectional analysis
• Study site: Adabraka Polyclinic
• Study population: pregnant women attending ANC clinic
• Data sources: laboratory records on antenatal screening
• Data analysis: SPSS vs 23, student t-test, chi-square; p-value ≤ 0.05,
as significant
