2. Benefits of CarPlay
1. Less distracting while driving (Colorful easy to read buttons and notifications right in front)
2. Familiar UI (Not much of a learning curve for people comfortable using their iOS device, touch
controls on the X5, X6 and 7 series.)
3. Dictate text messages (Message someone while at the wheel, with Siri integration you can dictate
your message more clearly. You can also have your messaged read back to you.)
4. Stream your music to your car stereo (Expand your listening from national and local radio stations
to your preferred streaming choice.)
5. Get live scores, weather and more (Want to know who won the last match or what the weather will
be like at your final destination? Ask Siri)
6. Multitask with iDrive (Quickly switch back and forth between CarPlay and iDrive, whether you need
to enter a destination in Navigation or change a vehicle setting.)
7. Use preferred navigation app*(While the phone is connected, open up your app of choice Google
Maps, Waze on the phone. It will not take over the screen but will still inform you of directions)

3. Requirements
What is required for a vehicle to be
compatible with CarPlay?
Vehicles must be equipped/ordered with
Navigation Professional (609) and Apple
CarPlay Compatibility (6CP).
What are the iPhone requirements in
order to use Apple CarPlay in a BMW?
In order to use Apple CarPlay in a
compatible BMW vehicle, an iPhone 5 or
newer is required. For best compatibility, we
recommend running the latest iOS version.

4. Setup
Turning on CarPlay in a BMW
1. From the main menu of iDrive,
select Communication
2. Select Manage mobile devices
3. Select Settings
4. Ensure that a checkbox appears
next to the Apple CarPlay menu, to
indicated that it is turned on.

5. Connecting an iPhone to CarPlay in a BMW
1. Ensure that CarPlay is turned on
(see steps above)
2. From the main menu of iDrive,
select Communication,
3. then Manage mobile devices, and
finally Connect new device.
4. Select Apple CarPlay. Then,
Confirm
5. iDrive will now display the
following screen, indicating that
the next step is to connect the
iPhone to the CarPlay feature of
the BMW

6. On the iPhone
1. On the iPhone, tap on the Settings
app.
2. Tap General, then CarPlay.
3. On the next screen, under
AVAILABLE CARS, tap on the
name of the BMW vehicle (i.e,
BMW 12345)

7. Continued
1. After pairing, wait until
CarPlay is connected.
2. On the iPhone screen
display, follow the prompts
to Pair the request, and
Allow for iPhone to sync.
When iPhone is connected,
the CarPlay icon will
display in the status bar at
the top of the screen and
the status bar will turn
blue.
3. Once successful, the main
menu of CarPlay will be
displayed in the iDrive.
