4. The Problem and its Background
• The first chapter of the research paper wishes to
present the problem and clarify significant
variables, its delimitations, and its significance
in the field of study.
• It should also be prominent that the researcher
has to explain the different elements to the first
chapter by giving a brief description of each
element so that the reader knows what to expect
from the chapter.
• It contains statements on what led the
researcher to launch the study.
5. The Problems and its Background
• May have been generated by some realistic
observations, the need to explore the problem
and some other appropriate conditions.
• Describe as clearly as possible the problem
intended to be addressed and discuss the
relevant literature in the field.
• It is an overview of factors which have led to the
problem, encompass the problem and historical
significance relative to the problem.
6. Introduction
• Use “The Problem and Its Background” as a
title for the first chapter of your research
paper.
• Include a short introductory paragraph before
discussing the background of your study.

23. Research Questions
•Depends on the type of your research
study
•Set the direction as to where your study
will go
•State what you want to accomplish or
achieve in the study
24. Statement of the Problem
The problem should be stated both in
general and in specific terms. The
general statement of the problem is
usually a reiteration of the title of the
study
The problem is always in an
interrogatory form, hence, it must ask
a question and subproblems must
follow the main problem which are the
key points for investigations in the
research.
Specific questions should be stated
using the following guide question
words: “How,” “Will”, “What,” Is
there”.
The problem should be stated in the
infinitive to (action words in research)
such as examine, analyze, determine,
measure, assess, evaluate,
recommend, find out, among others;
setting 4 - 5 research objectives is deal
for the research problem.
25. Statement of the Problem
The statement of the problem expresses what is
done to make the situation happens more like
what it should be. It exposes anything that is
incorrect with the situation or condition or
circumstances which is being described. It has
two main elements:
THE GENERAL OBJECTIVE
• is the first portion of the problem where the
researcher states the objectives. This is a
statement of a long-term objective expected to
be achieved in the study. This is derivative by
the identification and representation of the
research problem and as reflected in the title.
26. GENERAL PROBLEM
Example:
The study aimed to
determine peer tutoring
and its effects on the
reading fluency of Grade 11
students of Academic Senior
High School of the City of
Meycauayan.

28. Statement of the Problem
RESEARCH QUESTIONS
• the specific question which is to be answered
in the study are called research questions or
investigative question and are all in question
form. THE ANSWERS TO the research
question should lead to the solution to the
research problem. Is the objective or purpose
of the study observable, measurable, or
verifiable? Focus on a clear goal or objective.
State the precise goal. The problem should be
limited enough in making a definite
conclusion possible.
