To Whom It May Concern:
I am very pleased to write a letter of recommendation for Mr. Nathan Clarke. I am
Jihyang Choi, an assistant professor in the School of Communication & Media, at Ewha
Womans University, South Korea. Mr. Clarke has been my English tutor since I was a Ph. D.
student in the School of Journalism at Indiana University. I can firmly attest to his abilities,
efforts, and preparedness as a teacher/tutor because I have interacted with him very closely as
a tutee. He and I met at least once a week from 2012 to 2014 for English writing and speaking
tutorial sessions and, even now, he is frequently advising me on writing papers in English.
During the past few years, I have found him to be a highly committed and hard-
working teacher with strong work ethics. He is very competent in language teaching
methodology; He has always been driven to develop teaching materials from diverse sources—
newspapers, books, and journals articles. He and I have debated on a large number of topics
and I found that he is very sensitive to the issues involved in cross-cultural communications.
He is the one who frequently suggests new directions to explore to his tutees and provides
wider perspectives. If it had not been for his supervision, I would not have been able to present
my research in major international conferences, publish good research papers in top-ranking
academic journals, and finish my doctoral degree. In particular, he was always willing to give
advice on every moment of my dissertation process—from survey questionnaire design to final
oral defense.
In addition to his professional qualifications, Mr. Clarke has personal qualities that
make him well-suited to a good teacher. Mr. Clarke has become a close friend over years of
working together. He possesses an open and accessible personality. In addition to that, I found
that he has abilities to connect with people of all ages and races.
I recommend Mr. Clarke to you without reservation. If you have any further questions
with regard to his qualifications, please do not hesitate to contact me.
