Missionand History
The Mission of USA Cares is to provide post-9/11 military service members and their families with
financial and advocacy support in their time of need. USA Cares assists all branches of the military
to include all services and ranks, and treats all applicants with privacy and dignity in appreciation of
their service and sacrifice.
The demands for our services extend across the United States, mostly in areas with high concentrations
of veterans, areas with military installations as well as rural areas where a National
Guardsman/Reservist may live. Over the years, across programs, USA Cares has assisted over 65,000
families with over $11.5 million in assistance.
Programs
Combat Injured: Our Combat Injured program pays for basic expenses (mortgage/rent, food for their
family and home utilities) of those service members suffering from post-traumatic stress and traumatic
brain injury, enabling them to receive treatment and be assured their family is taken care of during
that time.
Jobs Assistance: We pay a service member's essential expenses while they train for a new job and
we relieve any financial barrier that keeps them from getting a new job or career, including the cost
of moving their family across country to a new job, buying tools required for a new job or travel and
lodging expenses for job interviewing.
Housing Assistance: We pay the landlord or mortgage lender when bills are past due and caused by
a military service-related incident such as a prolonged reduction in pay for Reservists or Guardsmen,
or extended delay in compensation by the VA to injured vets.
Emergency Assistance: The goal of this program is to provide emergency financial assistance to
support military families facing a financial difficulty. This program pays immediate, essential bills,
including food and utility bills.
Assistance to service members and their families is provided without obligation to repay. All
assistance is made directly to mortgage lenders, utility companies and other vendors requiring
payment from the families. Requestors must have a service connected hardship occurring in the last
four months.
Each family is assigned an advocate from the USA Cares' Family Resource Center who ensures
assistance is provided in a timely manner. These advocates also mobilize additional support for
families through other military assistance channels and the service member's community. When USA
Cares receives a request, we are typically able to respond within 48 hours.
