The objective of Chitrakavya is to ignite awe
and wonder; to evoke amusement and
pleasure; and, to offer intellectual challenge.
Such poetic tricks or riddles (kuta) have been
employed in Sanskrit poetry for a very long
time.
In Mahabharata there are verses that play on
alliterations, puns and chimes.

Mr Nanda Mohan Shenoy

<19>
It started as a type of Alamkara
Ruyyaka mentions it as ‘that can be drawn in shapes’
Later by great poets like Bharavi , Magha, Madhwacharya,
Vasudeva (from Kerala) and many others, it grew into a
system in itself
Yamakakavya with repetition of words diff. meaning.
Shlesha kavya one word having two meanings
Use of both meanings give it the beauty.
Vilomakavya … can be read both ways same or
diff meanings
