To find out more about NHS Improving Quality: Improving health outcomes across England by
providing improvement and change expertiseenquiries@nhsiq.nhs.uk
This exciting, practical support provides CCG leaders and their system partners with the tools and approaches for
addressing large scale challenges. It’s designed to empower commissioners to lead change across boundaries and
improve outcomes for patients and local communities. The programme was co-developed with NHS England’s
commissioning development directorate in response to CCG requests for support.
The offer is fully funded, and the support:
• is delivered locally to a CCG-led alliance of partner organisations
• focuses on supporting a locally identified priority change challenge already underway
• is evidence-based, and draws on the best improvement science and applied theories of social movement
• comprises practical, action-focused one-day workshops and action learning delivered over 6-9 months (four core workshops
focusing on purpose, vision, culture, strategy and measurement, followed by further tailored support)
• is facilitated by a faculty of clinicians, commissioners and improvement experts
• will leave a sustainable legacy of learning in place for you to use on other challenges.
So far more than 50% of CCGs are underway with, or about to commence, the programme.
Benefits include more rapid and assured progress on your key intentions, building new team and system capabilities,
delivering successful patient-focused change at scale and pace, and more productive local partnerships and collaborative
working through the creation of effective shared purpose.
This is not a ‘one size fits all’ programme, but one that is designed and evolves to respond to
your local needs. After the initial four core workshops, a facilitated review then shapes
content and the focus of subsequent support.
Our flexibility means there is no typical approach and CCGs across England are using
the support in very different ways:
• Alliance composition - CCGs are bringing many partners with them on this
development journey including NHS and independent providers,
Commissioning Support Units, NHS England area teams, Health and
Wellbeing Board representatives, local authorities, ambulance service
colleagues, regional leadership academies, patients and members of the
public, and third sector organisations.
• Tailored support - currently there are at least 16 different locally tailored
approaches.
• Locally determined change challenge priority – there have been 10
identified so far, with different aspects of primary care, frail elderly and the
integration of services being the most common.

Improving Quality NHS @NHSIQwww.nhsiq.nhs.uk To find out more about NHS Improving Quality: Improving health outcomes across England by providing improvement and change expertiseenquiries@nhsiq.nhs.uk This exciting, practical support provides CCG leaders and their system partners with the tools and approaches for addressing large scale challenges. It’s designed to empower commissioners to lead change across boundaries and improve outcomes for patients and local communities. The programme was co-developed with NHS England’s commissioning development directorate in response to CCG requests for support. The offer is fully funded, and the support: • is delivered locally to a CCG-led alliance of partner organisations • focuses on supporting a locally identified priority change challenge already underway • is evidence-based, and draws on the best improvement science and applied theories of social movement • comprises practical, action-focused one-day workshops and action learning delivered over 6-9 months (four core workshops focusing on purpose, vision, culture, strategy and measurement, followed by further tailored support) • is facilitated by a faculty of clinicians, commissioners and improvement experts • will leave a sustainable legacy of learning in place for you to use on other challenges. So far more than 50% of CCGs are underway with, or about to commence, the programme. Benefits include more rapid and assured progress on your key intentions, building new team and system capabilities, delivering successful patient-focused change at scale and pace, and more productive local partnerships and collaborative working through the creation of effective shared purpose. This is not a ‘one size fits all’ programme, but one that is designed and evolves to respond to your local needs. After the initial four core workshops, a facilitated review then shapes content and the focus of subsequent support. Our flexibility means there is no typical approach and CCGs across England are using the support in very different ways: • Alliance composition - CCGs are bringing many partners with them on this development journey including NHS and independent providers, Commissioning Support Units, NHS England area teams, Health and Wellbeing Board representatives, local authorities, ambulance service colleagues, regional leadership academies, patients and members of the public, and third sector organisations. • Tailored support - currently there are at least 16 different locally tailored approaches. • Locally determined change challenge priority – there have been 10 identified so far, with different aspects of primary care, frail elderly and the integration of services being the most common.
