Imagine an afternoon when a teacher can sit down at a
computer desktop and quickly sort through reams of data
she’ll use to plan lessons for the next day….
She’ll compare every student’s achievement against state
standards to decide which students need review and which
ones are ready to move on….
That technological capability can only be found in the
rare classroom today, but some experts say that such a data-
rich approach to instruction will soon be common place (Hoff,
2006, p. 12).

  1. To get the session moving lets get folks moving and meeting each other especially since this session is for newer academies. Have compass points around the room so folks can meet a new person. Post-its available.
  2. Second chance to meet someone, from the theme. Post it again to save email.
  3. Final meeting: have core content, administrator, career teacher, business partner- take a third post it Now that you have 3 names/email- write these down in a place where you can find them. Consider contacting these folks in October to remind them to start the Academy Assessment process. You are each others support teams. 10 minutes total, get to know each other develop natwork friends
  4. Intro to continuous improvement cycle and how Aa fits. Data center entries occur first, before you can open online AA. Gather a review and collect evidence throughout the year. The purpose of the Assess component is to gather various forms of information for analysis that can inform planning and actions for improvement Today Patti 5-7 minutes
  5. Debbie Fischer, has 36 years teaching experience and 11 years in the NAF network as an academy director. The Northeast High School Academy of Finance has been recognized in her district as a Center of Excellence, a model program for the National Career Academy Coalition and is one of our Distinguished academies for the past three years. Students who complete the AOF program leave with certifications, real world experiences, job shadowing each grade level, paid internships, student and business mentors, scholarship opportunities, field trips, integrated curriculum, and college and career plans. Approximately 96% of AOF students continue their education after high school. Being a member of the National Academy Foundation has provided a network of individuals and programs to share common experiences. Working with individuals who share their own experiences and needs leads to better results not only for our students, but also for the individuals involved. As you involve individuals from the business community through classroom instruction, mentoring, advisory boards, providing financial support, or paid internships, you will see that the use of data will be extremely important. During a day long workshop, Advisory Board reviews results and determines areas for improvement into their new Strategic Plan for the next 5 years. As they shared their strategies, we reviewed the NAF results, Model School Criteria and Center of Excellence criteria to make sure we were still meeting all the elements. In the fall additional school and academy data is obtain and put into the NAF data system. Board Results are shared with Advisory Board team.
