Interesting facts about Uluru / Ayers Rock:
• It’s a large sandstone rock formation that is 348 meters
(1,142 feet) high.
• The total circumference (the distance around it) is 9.4
kilometers (5.8 miles).
• It’s located in the middle of Australia in the Northern
Territory.
• Iron rust content of the rock causes it to appear red in
color.
• “Uluru” is the name given to the rock by the Indigenous
Australians.
• It is also known as “Ayers Rock,” the name given to it by
surveyor William Gosse in 1873.

• It consists of over 2,900 reefs
made of coral1 and is the world’s
largest coral reef system.
• It covers an area of approximately
344,400 square kilometers
(133,000 square miles).
• It is home to many species of
colorful fish and starfish,
as well as mollusks, sharks,
dolphins, and turtles.
• It is found off the coast of
Queensland, Australia.
