The main role of the retailers is give the impulsion to
the roll-out
A common communication between retailers towards
SME:
– To explain to the manufacturers that we all are aligned in
terms of: attributes, unique point of entry,…
– To warrant:
• An investment as low as possible for the supplier
• The ROI for the supplier (critical mass for their customers)
Make sure that the suppliers can choose their Provider:
keep the market open and maintain competition in the
market

Big manufacturers are the drivers:
– They are directly connected to the GDSN
– They have resources to set up Tests, Pilots…
– Collaboration with retailers in order to understand
standards
SME are the followers :
– Main players to achieve critical mass
– Users of solutions: simple, at low cost… (competition)
– Need ready-to-use solutions
– Need things easy to understand -> GDS, my first steps
– Need common communication from retailers to decide
investments
