3. Deadlines
I have met all of the deadlines for each piece of work which had
been assigned to a specific launch date. Although, when
feedback was given at first I was able to complete the
corrections quickly, however my speed at doing the corrections
slowed down but I was able to do them but not as quickly as I
would have liked to have done. I was able to complete the
magazine to the set deadline which was the Monday of the 4th
week in the month. On the barcode of the magazine it will show
the month which the magazine has been released as there is
only one copy per month.
These are screen grabs from my other documents where the
deadlines have always stayed the same.
4. Post Production Skills
The main software I used for editing the final front cover was Adobe
Photoshop CS5.1. I used this because I had lots of the features which I
needed to be able to create the magazine front page but for it to also look
professional, smooth and conventional. For example, after I had taken the
photos of my model John Allen, I needed to edit him. The tools on
Photoshop allowed me to get rid of the background, with the quick
selection tool and allow me at add another one background, make his hair
more detailed and less chunky after I had used the quick selection tool to
remove the back ground quickly. The rubber tool also got rid of the sharp
edges which were also left over from the quick selection process around
his body. I also used the hardening tool which I thought made the johns
clothes look more detailed. With all these features I was able to create a
very good front cover and double page spread which could have only be
done with Photoshop as with other photo editing software doesn’t have all
of these features available to use.

5. Safe Working Practices
It was important for me to remove the background from John as the
photo was taken inside school property, so I needed to make sure that
it didn’t seem like it was. By removing the background using the quick
selection tool I was able to just have the image of john and there was
no relationship between the photo and the school.
I also have to make the interview and picture of John accurately as this
is part of the Editors Code of practice which means I have to abide by
there rules. The only type of change which I made to the picture of
John was that I used the clone stamp tool to remove my self from his
reflective sunglasses. This did not change his physical appearance or
features so it is within the guidelines set by the IPSO.
I also changed the lighting to the photo to improve the pictures quality
and the look of John. This again didn’t change any physical features of
john so it was an accurate representation of john.
6. I also cannot manipulate the picture of John too
much to make him look a lot more different as
this will go against the Editors Codes of practice
because this isn’t 100% accurate to what he
looks like.
7. Colour
I was able to keep a consistent house style throughout my
magazine as I was able to use the eye dropper tool. On
my mood board I had the two colour which I wanted to
use on my gradient background. So I used the eye
dropper tool to select that for my canvas background on
my front cover. Then when I was using the colour for my
strokes and cover story boxes I used the ‘eye dropper’
again from the colour in the background.
When I was making my double page spread and needed
to use the same colours. Instead I saved the two colours
from my mood board and was able to easily select them
instead of having to use the eye dropper tool.
8. Fonts
To find the fonts which I was going to use in my
magazine I used the www.dafonts.com as they had
a huge variety of different fonts which I could use in
my website.
I was inspired from the Mixmag magazine to use a
big and thick text which would stand out as a
masthead. I also used font from the website which I
used for the strapline as I though it also fitted with
my magazine style.
This font is free for personal use so I am able to use
it although if I was to profit from the magazine, I
would have to contact the author of the font.
10. Before there were multiple problems with the magazine.
Firstly; John in the first picture was very unconventional as he
wasn’t looking at the camera and he still had his school bag
on. Also there were a lot of sharp edges around his body from
the quick selection tool and I needed to improve the look of
his hair. So I took another picture of john and made it
conventional by him looking at the camera with no bag on. I
also was able to edit his body and hair to look better.
Also the text which I had used wasn’t bright and too hard to
see. So I had the text bigger and bolder with colourful boxes
behind it which made the front cover look much more
interesting.
Then I changed the Masthead as it wasn’t big and engaging
because it wasn’t big and thick so I changed this by changing
the font and added a colour stroke.
This was similar for my headline as it was dull and thin. I again
made it more colourful and thicker. I changed the position as
well.
11. The strapline connotations is festival
like atmosphere where the crowd
will be very energetic and will be
‘jumping’.
The connotations in the masthead
suggests that ‘Jump’ magazine is like
a experience as it is exciting and
significant to the people who read it.
The ‘Plus’ is a verbal code which connotes
the reader has more information compared
to other magazines and people.
The ‘Big question’ connotes that there
is something very important which is
being discussed and everyone has
their own opinion of it.
13. The pink of
the drop
capital
‘signifies’
(De
Saussure) a
summer
feel of
flowers or
a sunset.
The blue also follows my colour
scheme and it connotes a
summer sky.
14. The changes which I made to the double page
spread were:
I changed the quotations marks to be pink to
further the constituency and improve my use of
my magazines house styles.
I also, included a background onto the second
page of the double page spread to make the
picture more related to his career as a DJ. As I
changed the background I also had to change
the text of the quote to white to make it visible.
15. LO4 - Conclusion
The final learning outcome includes an overview
of the magazine after it has been completed. It
highlights the colours, fonts, post production
and the deadlines which have been met
throughout the magazines production time.
