Barack’s Parents Barack Obama’s father was named Barack Obama, Sr. His mother was named Ann Dunham. His mother grew up in Wichita, Kansas. His father grew up in Nyanza Province, Kenya. Barack, Sr. and Ann met while attending the University of Hawaii.
Ann Dunham and Barack Obama, Sr. then got                           married in 1961. Six months after Barack Obama, Sr. and Ann Dunham got married they had Barack Obama, Jr. His full name was Barack Hussein Obama, Jr. Barack was born on August 4, 1961. Barack was born in the county of Honolulu on the island of Oahu. Barack’s Birth
Barack’s Childhood In 1964 Barack's parents separated and got divorced when his father went to Harvard University with a scholarship. Barack’s father only returned to Hawaii only once to see Barack in 1971.  Barack, Sr. then was in a car accident in 1982 causing him to lose both of his legs resulting in him losing his job. Then later in 1982 Barack, Sr. was in another car accident while he was traveling in Nairobi which killed him. Barack lived in Menteng, Jakarta from when he was 6 to when he was 10 because his mother married and had a daughter with an Indonesian man named Lolo Soetoro.
More Of Barack’s Childhood After several incidents in Jakarta Barack’s mother got scared for his safety and education so he was sent back to Hawaii to live with his grandparents After Barack was sent back to Hawaii he was helped raised by his grandparents Stanley and Madelyn Dunham where he started  getting involved with basketball and where he graduated with academic honors. Barack’s mother and sister later returned to Hawaii and joined Barack and his grandparents. After Barack was sent back to Hawaii he was helped raised by his grandparents Stanley and Madelyn Dunham where he started  getting involved with basketball and where he graduated with academic honors. Barack was one of only three African-Americans in his school so he understood racism.  Barack’s mother and sister later returned to Hawaii and joined Barack and his grandparents back in Hawaii.
Barack’s College Years After high school Barack studied at the Occidental(preferring to the west) College in Los Angeles for two years. He then transferred to Columbia University in New York where he graduated in 1983 with a degree in political science. After Barack finished college he moved to Chicago where he started his career.
Barack Obama’s Starting Career In Chicago Barack worked as a community organizer for low-income residents. During this time Barack went to Kenya,  visited some of his relatives, and went to some of his relatives graves, like his father’s and grandfather’s. In 1988 when Barack got back from Kenya he entered Harvard Law School.
Barack and Michelle Meet The next year Barack met Michelle Robinson when she was assigned to be Barack’s advisor during a summer internship at Sidley and Austin law firm in Chicago. Soon after Barack Obama and Michelle Robinson met they started dating. In 1990 Barack was elected the first African-American editor of the Harvard Law Review. In 1991 Barack graduated Harvard Law School with very high honors.
Barack and Michelle Get Married When Barack return from law school he practiced as a civil rights lawyer. He also taught at the University of Chicago Law School and he helped organize voter registration drives in 1992 when Bill Clinton was running for president.  Then on October 3, 1992 Barack and Michelle got married. After they got married they moved to Kenwood which is on Chicago’s south side. They also had two daughters: Malia, who was born in 1998, and Sasha, born in 2001.
Barack As Illinois Senator In 1996 Barack was elected to the Illinois State Senate as a Democrat. During this time Obama worked with both Democrats and Republicans doing many things. A couple of them are: Expanding health care services And expanding early childhood programs for the poor
Barack Becoming President In February 2007, Obama announced that he was running for the 2008 Democratic presidential nomination. On November 4th, 2008, Barack Obama defeated Republican presidential nominee John McCain for the position of president of the United States. On January 20, 2009, Obama became the 44th president of the United States as a Democrat (with Joe Biden as his vice president) and the first African-American to be president. Also in 2009, Barack was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.
