Adverbs and expressions of frequency
Present Simple
Use Present Simple for things you do every day, week, year, or which are always true.
•
Remember the spelling rules for 3rd person singular s:
work > works add s
study > studies consonant + y: y and add ies
nish > nishes sh, s, ch, x: add es
go > goes do > does have > has
•
Remember the word order in questions (ASI and QUASI).
•
We often use Present Simple with adverbs of frequency (always, often, sometimes, usually, hardly ever, never).
•
Adverbs of frequency go before the main verb but after be.
He often goes out. NOT He goes often out.
She’s always late. NOT She’s late always.
•
Expressions of frequency (every day, once a week, etc.) usually go at the end of a sentence.

"She looks exactly as I imagined!"
I loved the book The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, so I was worried that the lm would
be disappointing. It wasn't! For me, Noomi Rapace, who plays Lisbeth Salander, is one
of the main reasons it is so good. She looks exactly as I imagined: she's pale with
short hair, which is dyed black and she often wears black lipstick. Her overall look is
attractive — even though she has piercings in her nose and eyebrow, and of course,
the tattoos: a wasp on her neck and a dragon on her left shoulder. And it's not just
her looks, but her amazing performance, that make Noomi Rapace the real star of
this lm.
Shahrukh Khan is one of the most famous actors and lm producers in Bollywood.
His look is de nitely cool — with his brown eyes, black hair and perfect skin — and he
has literally billions of fans. Those fans were excited today, as they saw a new
waxwork model of him at Madame Tussaud's for the rst time. A reporter asked one
fan what she thought of the new model. "It's amazing!" she said. "It looks just like the
real thing. He's tall and slim, and I can almost believe it is him, here with me!" Khan
himself was also impressed — "What I like most are my eyes," he told the reporters.
And what does his wife think? "I think she likes it more than me. It looks younger!" he
said.

"Singles' Day" in Shanghai
11 November is "Singles' Day" in Shanghai, and every year a dating event takes place
where all the single men and women of the city have the chance to meet a partner.
Last year, it was so popular that the organizers had to close online registration
because there were no more places.
Between 10,000 and 40,000 people attend the event every year. It's held in a district
of Shanghai called Thames Town. At least 50 dating agencies take part. They set up
stands in the town hall with billboards displaying cards with the height, birth date,
education, and annual income of thousands of clients. People who did not manage to
register for the event organize their own uno cial dating system by writing their
names and phone numbers on bits of paper and attaching them to the fence outside
the town hall.
More people take part in "Singles' Day" every year because of the growing number of
single adults in Shanghai. In the centre of the city, more than 24% of people over the
age of 15 are unmarried.
