Online Education System in
COVID-19
How teachers prepare Lesson Plan in this system
Introduction
COVID-19 is a disease which is very common now a days and spreading
rapidly. 'CO' stands for corona, 'VI' for virus, and 'D' for disease.
Formerly, this disease was referred to as '2019 novel corona virus' or 2019-
nCoV. It is basically a virus which is transmitted from one infected person to
other normal persons. This virus may survive on the surfaces for several
hours, but cleansing agent, sanitizers, and some antibiotics can kill it.
As we know that COVID-19 is spreading all around the world. This virus start
spreading from China city Wuhan and now it is common all across the world. Many
people have been died and many are in the quarantine due to this epidemic. So,
there is a complete lockdown in all counties. Pakistan is also facing many problems
due to this epidemic. All schools, colleges and universities are closed since mid of
March till now. Our education system is totally changed due to this pandemic. Now,
education is totally based on online system.
Means and Ways to approach target
students
1. Whatsapp.
2. Zoom app.
3. Google Classroom.
4. Skype.
5. E-mail.
6. Proof Hub.
7. Drop box. Etc.
Online communication tools are also very effective to teach special
students’ or students’ who have learning disabilities.
Medium to be used for communication
with students
Tele School is also a best way to get education in Lock
down. It is free and convenient for those who have no
internet facility.
Type of Assessment in Online Classes
• Formative Assessment:
Formative assessment happens during the lecture. In Formative Assessment
teachers assess his/her own self as well as students’.
• Summative Assessment:
Summative Assessment is that assessment which happens at the end of lecture.
For example:
In online classes when teacher take online quiz on Google Classroom comes
under summative assessment.
Procedure of Formative Assessment to be
adapted
• First of all teacher said in high tone that all students’ must open their videos.
• Secondly, teacher said open your note book or pen and note my lecture.
• Teacher should wait 5 minutes maximum for those students’ who are still trying to join meeting or
students who faced problems in connecting.
• After this teacher start the lecture and asked students’ mute their mikes after attendance. Only
when I call your names than on your mikes or if you want to ask something related to lecture than
raise your hands. Zoom also provide this facility of raise-hand.
• Teacher should ask questions again and again during the lecture. Because if teacher have habit of
ask questions during lecture than students’ listen carefully as well as note teachers’ words.
• If teacher feel that students’ feel monotonous he/she may ask objective type questions.
How Teacher Motivate Students’ in online
Class
• Power Point Slides:
In online classes teacher should make attractive slides of the lectures
which he/she should include GIFs, images, colors, animations or
transitions. Because it is human psyche our brain attract towards colorful
images. Students’ motivate and take interest if teacher make attractive
lectures.
Cont…..
Videos:
Videos are also the best way to engage or motivate students’. Teachers’
can add videos related to lecture in power point slides. Because those
learners who don’t take interest on verbal lecture when teacher play
video between lecture they take interest and attentive to hear and watch
video. Etc. You Tube videos related to lecture can also be included in
the lecture.
Maintain Attendance Record in Online
Classes
There are some strategies to keep attendance record in online classes;
• Upload attendance on Google Classroom and teacher should give limited
time and ask students’to mark their attendance.
• Teacher should take screen shots of the participants of the zoom class
before and after the lecture.
• If class is held on whatsapp than teacher should ask to mark attendance
by using emojis.
Ways and means to connect school management and
administration in online classes
• Principal:
In online education system principal or school administration are
connected with teachers’ and HODs through mobile contact. Principal
held meeting on Zoom where he/she take report from teachers about
online teaching. Principal or HODs are also added in all Google
classrooms where administrators connected and monitor what teacher is
uploading on classroom on daily basis.
Cont…..
School Staff:
All teachers are also connected with each other through whatsapp group. There
should be one official group of all staff members in whatsapp where all group
members discuss about their schedule, students’who are not attending online classes
etc.
Parents:
School community should be connected with parents about their kids’achievement.
Monthly zoom Parents Teacher meeting should be held. PTM is the best strategy to
engage parents and it also an opportunity for parents’to give their suggestions and
receive feedback about their child from teacher.
Recording:
Teacher should record zoom lecture and than upload lecture on Google Classroom
where Principal and Head of Departments are also added. This is the very
convenient way for principal to judge teachers’lecture.
Stakeholders:
The term stakeholder typically refers to anyone who is invested in the
welfare and success of a school and its students, including administrators,
teachers, staff members, students, parents, families, community members,
local business leaders, and elected officials such as school board
members, and city.
For example:
In lock down when schools are still closed but stakeholders are connected
with school. Teacher informs in group that all of students’buy their books
from ABC stationery or any other stationery. You can order your books
from these shops etc. So, this is the best way for stakeholders to connect
with school and continue their business even in the lockdown.
Benefits of Online Teaching
Benefits for Teachers:
• The benefits of online classes for teachers are as follows;
• Teacher can easily deliver lecture at their home.
• It is convenient for teachers to manage their home in online education
system.
• Online education provides opportunities to access and share information
more easily and readily.
Cont…..
Benefit for Students:
• Students’can take only class anywhere with the help of internet connection.
• Students’ are taking online classes with in their home/bedroom which is very comfortable
learning environment.
• Students can study and work at their convenience.
• In online classes students’ technical skills are improving day by day. In beginning of
online classes students had no idea that how to use zoom, Google Classroom and how to
make accounts etc. But now students’learned and trained to use online tools.
• Online classes are beneficial for the students because there studies don’t disturb or they
continue their studies even in the lockdown. Etc.
Example
Online Lesson Plan
Online Lesson Plan:
Lesson plan ref: Science Course Book
Subject/ Course: G.Science
Topic/ Lesson Title: Types of Matter
Level: 7th
Lesson Duration: 45 min
Lesson Objectives:
Students’ will be able to know;
•What is matter?
•How many types of matters?
•What is practical usability of these types?
•What are examples of all types of matters? Etc.
Procedure of Teaching
• Teaching Method
• Source of Lecture
• For students’ motivation
• Lecture Method and Question
Answer Method for assessing
students’ learning ability.
• Power Point slides and videos
related to lecture on Zoom app.
• 10 minutes activity at the end of
class for students’ brainstorming.
Cont….
• Type of Assessment • Being a teacher, I used both
formative and summative assessment.
Formative Assessment technique will
apply when I will feel someone is not
taking interest and responding. After
completing my lecture I will ask
some questions which may be in the
form of MCQs or short answer items
come under summative assessment.
Questions should be pre planned or it
may be change according to the
situation of class.
Homework
At the end of lecture being a teacher I will upload homework on the Google
Classroom and also assign submission date to the students. Homework would be
based on Transformation Activity. Because students 'of class 6 or 7 are not matured
and fell monotonous with home assignments. So, homework should be attractive.
Homework should be related to topic and not too much lengthy. A sample of
homework related to topic matter is shown in next slide;
Transformation Activity
Name the types of matters with the help of showing its figure;
Assigning Attractive work in online classes
• If homework or mini assignments are based on images than students’ take it as a
game. They enjoy their work and unconsciously their concepts enhance.
• Teacher should more focus on activity based learning in online classes.
• PowerPoint lectures are the best ways to engage all kind of students’ in class.
• Teacher should also design quiz which is enjoyable for students’ instead of being
stressful.
Conclusion
It is concluded that nCoVID-19 changed our education system totally. It has both
pros and cons. But it is fact so we take it positive and accept change. We should
enjoy this innovate system of education. If we take it relax than both students’ and
teachers would feel enjoy and relax. Old Teachers are facing difficulty till yet
because according to them their experience is sufficient. If we follow SOPs step by
step we make this system successful.
