APPLICATIONS OF STAINLESS STEEL
SCOPE OF TRAINING
3. JINDAL STAINLESS (HISAR) LIMITED
The Hisar plant was established in 1975 when Shri O.P Jindal, envisioned a self reliant India for
meeting its stainless steel demand. Stainless steel then was no less than a luxury metal and India
was completely dependent on imports to fulfil its demand, which imports attracted duties of up to
300%. It was Shri O.P Jindal’s vision and his pioneering spirit that led to the establishment of the
Hisar plant, India’s first stainless steel manufacturing unit.
Hisar plant was integrated on a strategy of both, backward and forward integration, starting from
mining, melting, casting, hot rolling to cold rolling and other value additions Today, it is a fully
integrated Stainless Steel plant with a capacity of 800,000 TPA. It is also the world’s largest
producer of Stainless Steel strips for razor blades
it’s Specialty product division caters to the high end precision and specialty stainless steel
requirements of reputed Indian and International customers. The product range includes Slabs &
Blooms, Hot Rolled Coils, Strips, Plates, Coin Blanks, Precision Strips and Cold Rolled Coils.
Company plans to continue its focus on development of new value added stainless steel grades,
process improvements and customer satisfaction through developing customized products
matching their specific requirements.

7. COLD ROLLING DIVISION (CRD)
In the cold rolling division the coils undergo process to annealing and pickling which restores
the Shine characteristics of stainless steel to the coils that were initially black when received
from HRD . the coil may further processed to obtain very thin plates of steel.

INPUT MATERIAL FOR AP-
Hot rolled coil from HR division for HRAP
Cool rolled coil from Z-1, Z- 2, Z-3 and 4 mill
Hot rolled coil from CP LINE with leader end .
11. WHY ANNEALING REQUIRED ?
Material becomes hard
during rolling and internal
stress develops . Material will
crack if it is rolled further
without reducing these
stresses.To reduce these
stresses annealing is required
12. WHY PICKLING IS REQUIRED ?
Removal of annealing oxides and mill scale
Removal of chromium depleted zone
Improve the surface shining.
Making the stainless steel corrosion resistant.
Piclkling section consist of 3 acid tanks.
1. H2SO4 TANK (8%-12%)
2. MIX ACID TANK -1 (HNO3 +HF)
3. MIX ACID TANK 2 (CONC. HNO3)
13. 160 mm wide steel plates.
Hot rolled coils (1.2mm to 12mm)
Cold rolled coils (0.5mm to 5mm)

15. Scope of training
This training help me to improve my knowledge of types of stainless
steel that how is manufactured? How it is rolled ? how it is processed
and how is brightened.
It improved my technical skill about annealing and pickling process
that will be beneficial to work in an industry in future.
Also during training I come to know how to tackle problems coming
during process.
This training help us to teach that how to work with team co-
ordination.
