2. Worst case Scenario
Our scenario is chain of cricket stores in US.
To explain how worse it is, cricket is a sport played
and famous in countries like England, Indian Sub-
Continent, Australia, West Indies, South Africa etc. Im
sure more than 50% of the US natives might have not
herd the word. A legitimate match in cricket(known as
Test Match ) will go on for 5 days and sometimes ends
up ina tie too. A country which hasn’t heard of the
game, its know-how or its icons and for whom time is
top priority, selling cricket related equipment , apparel
and gear would be highly fractionally viable option
next only to selling ice to Arctic Men.
3. Solution
Let’s look into the scenario logically and see if we manage to arrive at the
seemingly impossible solution.
If we make US a cricket Frenzy Nation, then our job is done. But that’s
next only foolish to the most foolish thing, and neither is our
responsibility. ICC(International Cricket Council ) is not able to do that
from so many decades.
So our job is to earn decent sales (profits) on cricket gear without even
making it cricket crazy.
Let’s start this way, are the customers going to benefit if at all we sell
them. Its our moral responsibility that we add some value to their life
when they buy our product(Who said Businesses need to have Moral
Responsibility?, one might ask. Yes its my blood of profit making and not
only that brand value and long run take a toll when it doesn’t add any
value to them).
So our job is to research in what way our product gonna enhance their
lives? If at all, if not how to make it that way.
4. Lets jot down all the positive points which are in our favour:
a.) There is a sizeable percentage of Indians and Pakistanis who are very
bankable customer group among which cricket fevers runs quite high.
b.) Consumer Power and willingness to accept new things attribuite of US
citizens.
c.) Ofcourse, sport is all about entertainement , fun and fitness which sell high
in US.
d.) Cricket resembles Baseball in major parts which has a good following in US.
e.) There is a new format in cricket these days(Twenty20 cricket) which gets
completed in 4 hours, and so people can afford to spend time on a match inspite
of the earlier 5 day antiquette version.
f.) Cricket most worshipped Icon Sachin Tendulkar has been in huge media
coverage with International sports celebrities like Tiger Woods, Michael
Schumaker,Roger Federer and Indian Cricket Captain MS Dhoni has featured in
commercials with Didier Drogba, David Beckham.
