2. Speaking vs Writing
• We have been thinking about the difference
between speaking and writing.
• When you speak with your friend you can use
body language and you don’t have to describe
everything.
• When you write you have to make sure that
you describe everything so that your audience
will understand what you are writing about.
3. Clause Complex
• 3P has been learning how to change a simple
sentence into a clause complex.
• This means we are providing information
about when, who and where in our writing.
For example: [simple sentence]I woke up.
[clause complex] After mum had been yelling
at me for at least half an
hour, I woke up and crawled
out of my cosy bed.
4. Metaphors
• 3P has also practised using metaphors in their
writing.
• A metaphor is an idea that is created by
referring to something as if it were
something else.
5.
6. Metaphoric Poetry
• We have practised our new skills by writing
colour poems.
• 3P students would be pleased to show you our
poetry corner or you might like to write a
poem of your own.
• Miss Pike would also like to read aloud a poem
written by Henry.
7. Green by Henry
Green is slimy squiggles of seaweed where crabs with shiny hard
shells live in harmony as a family.
Green is glowing pointy grass rustling in the shadowy deep dark night
as the animals scurry to get away from predators.
Green is a rough tough snake quickly shedding its scaly hard skin to
trick its predators.
Green is the evil crazy unusual brain-eating zombie stuck in its
gravestone.
Green is the fragile leaves gently waving in the rustling wind.
Green is a ginormous tree that wobbles very heavily through the day.
Green is a slimy man eating frog sitting hungrily on a delicate lily
staring hungrily at a baby.
Green is a rude unkind alien sitting in his ship invading a rich city for
its money and goods.
