The Importance of Strong Passwords:
Are your passwords strong enough?
These days it seems like there is a password, pin number or code for everything - it's hard to
remember them all and it's tempting to use simple passwords. But don't. Theresa van der Wee
lost six grand when she was tricked out of her pin number by the thieves who stole her wallet.
Terry Bothma from Geeks on Wheels gives some great tips about how to come up with strong
passwords that will be difficult to crack and easily remembered by you.

Strong Passwords
We live in a password-driven world, where between four and 20 characters are the difference
makers in whether you're able to access your data, communicate with friends, or make your online
purchases. The problem is that passwords should be different everywhere you use them, and that
can make it difficult to remember them all.
This article contains some good ideas on common problems and things to avoid. It even offers
some fantastic advice:
Remember the Underwear Meme
The saying goes like this: Passwords are like underwear. You should change them often (okay, maybe
not every day). Don't share them. Don't leave them out for others to see (no sticky notes!). Oh, and they
should be sexy. Wait, sorry, I mean they should be mysterious. In other words, make your password a
total mystery to others.

more of them we have to memorize. Combining words, phrases, numbers, and coding them
with simple substitutions will ensure that your personal information is safe. It is important to
be able to come up with passwords that are personal enough to remember but varied and
complex enough to be secure, so learning how to create appropriate passwords is a crucial
skill that you will undoubtedly use often.
wikiHow offers five different methods for simple password creation. Supported with images

How to Create Super-Strong Passwords to Protect Yourself from the ‘Heartbleed’ Bug
Earlier this week [April 2014], a massive security bug known as Heartbleed had been discovered — a
vulnerability that could allow intruders to trick servers into spewing out your personal data. Heartbleed is
particularly dangerous because it extends much deeper than just a bug within an app that can be easily
updated. It’s a problem with the technology that powers the services that transmit secure information from
websites such as Gmail and Facebook. The Heartbleed bug affects versions of OpenSSL, a popular data
encryption standard that powers a large chunk of the Web. The flaw was initially spotted by the team at
security firm Codenomicon and Google Security’s Neel Mehta.
This article contains information about the Heartbleed Bug as well as information about how create secure
passwords and what to avoid.

Password Generator
Use the Norton Identity Safe Password Generator to create highly secure passwords that are difficult to
crack or guess. Just select the criteria for the passwords you need, and click "Generate Password(s)".
Remember, the more options you choose, the more secure the passwords will be.
Rather than a list of password advice Norton has a password generator where you can test your
passwords strength.
