But first, let’s take a minute to review the HP –Microsoft Frontline partnership. For more than 30 years, HP and Microsoft have shared a collaborative partnership – the longest partnership of this type in the industry. HP and Microsoft work together and combine our respective strengths to deliver innovative technologies to help advance your business. Together we take familiar platforms you know and own—from desktops to data center and cloud—and build integrated solutions, services, and support that help amplify the speed and effectiveness of your business, grow your competitive edge, and deliver tangible business results. With a shared, long-term vision and end-to-end alignment on strategy, R&D, product/solution testing, services and support, and customer outreach, HP and Microsoft help you innovate, adapt, and unleash new business value.HP Technology Services also has a long history of partnership with Microsoft—deploying thousands of Exchange seats and millions of Windows Server environments.
Project Voyager is so important because, this path is unsustainable…The bigger story beyond the 3 year costs of data centers…..explosive growth of data and the demands on IT …….and the data center. 173k photos, 220k searches, 1.8 ZB to 7 ZB by 2014…….7,000 servers a day.We looked at the most costly, complex and vexing issues that CIOs deal with today: Manual operations - impact many areas – in a typical 10,000 sq ft data centerManual systems operationsManual facilities operations and measurements, creates errors Planned and unplanned downtime For years IT systems have been getting smaller, faster and cheaper…………in the cloud era………… it’s time they also got infinitely more intelligent, not just in the server but across the data center ………….Today, we’re announcing the first step on the multi-year Project Voyager mission
Let’s now talk about our assets. Most compelling broad-based portfolio in the industryAll with modern architecturesHP Blades with HP OneView lowers infrastructure configuration times by 96%, lowers TCO by 42%, and 6 month ROI. Global Banking and Financial Services customer used Blades an OneView… workload deployments from 66 days to a single day!TTX… HP Blades and HP VirtualConnect… reduced data center footprint by 60%.HP 3PAR cut capacity by 50%; run twice the number of virtual machines; same operating system from entry level to high end. HP CloudSystem… more later HP EcoPodHP Flexible Capacity ServiceAs you think of the shape of this business…---------------------------------------------------------------Let’s now talk about our assets. When you look across our portfolio, we have the most compelling, broad-based portfolio of technology in the market – all with modern architectures.I emphasize “modern architectures” because many of our competitors’ solutions are based on architectures dating back to the 1980s and some to the 1960s. These archaic architectures will become obsolete as enterprise customers move to a “New Style of IT” driven by an application-centric approach. For example, we invented the Blade Server and our leadership in this category is enhanced by its ability to seamlessly integrate with technologies like the newly released HP OneView. Together, HP BladeSystem with HP OneView lowers infrastructure configuration times by 96%, lowers total cost of ownership by 42%, and has an unbelievable 6 month ROI. This value proposition is so compelling, JPMC has used HP Blades and HP OneView to converted their workload deployments from 66 days to a single day – a single day! Lastly, TTX, North America's leading provider of railcars and related freight cars, used HP Blades and HP VirtualConnect to reduce their data center footprint by 60%.The explosion of data requires a different approach to storage – one that’s highly reliable and scalable, with higher expectations for capacity and speeds, at lower cost. HP 3PAR, now exceeds $1 billion in annual run-rate revenue, does just that, and stands alone in the industry in it’s value proposition – it can cut your capacity to store data by 50%; it can run twice the number of virtual machines; and it gives you the same operating system, the same feature and function, same user experience from the entry level all the way up to the high end. But, it’s not just about our innovations in best-in-class components. It’s equally important to solve big problems and provide business outcomes using integrated solutions – we do this with HP CloudSystem, the industry’s only turn key private cloud solution, which I’ll go into greater detail later. It’s about our unique partnership with SAP in our HP SAP Hana solution coupling SAP Hana with HP’s remarkable in-memory computing technology for faster real-time analytics and rapid scalability. And it’s about HP’s EcoPod, delivering an entire datacenter in a pod – quickly and easily. To highlight another solution that possesses unmatched value to customers is HP’s Flexible Capacity Service. It’s business modernization at its finest, enabling our customers to provision new capacity quickly without restarting the procurement process for each new request. When added to HP’s Datacenter Care service, Flexible Capacity Service provides onsite infrastructure that you pay for on a monthly basis – customers pay for what they use, providing infrastructure in any form the customer wants. As you think of the shape of this business, it’s doesn’t stop with best-in-class components or integrated solutions, it’s about the technology services we wrap it with – from our consulting to break-fix support. ###
Flash Succeeds Closer to the CPUThe graphic shows that PCIe provides the maximum benefit for flash effectiveness. Responsiveness is in nanoseconds versus milliseconds when using a SAN infrastructure.PCI Express (Peripheral Component Interconnect Express), officially abbreviated as PCIe, is a computer expansion card standard designed to replace the older PCI, PCI-X, and AGP bus standards. PCIe has numerous improvements over the aforementioned bus standards, including higher maximum system bus throughput, lower I/O pin count and smaller physical footprint, better performance-scaling for bus devices, a more detailed error detection and reporting mechanism, and native hot plug functionality. More recent revisions of the PCIe standard support hardware I/O virtualization
When we brought the industry’s first Converged Infrastructure solutions to market, we knew that the paradigm of management also had to change. Rather than throw more tools at the symptoms, we focused on eliminating the underlying causes of this IT gap to create a management platform that is purpose built for convergence. We started from a clean sheet of paper and spent the last 4 years in research with over 30 customers to understand the root causes of inefficiencies, costs, outages and delays that cause the IT gap. Let me share with you what we discovered:1. The most basic steps created the biggest decreases in productivity: Every process in the data center is based on common steps like finding something or identifying a problem. Those steps happen 1000’s of times a day and take minutes and even hours to complete per administrator. If we could radically simplify those steps, every process in the data center could be radically accelerated.2. IT processes were never done exactly the same way twice. Almost every process relies on manual operations (people) and 10 people executing the exact same process never do it exactly the same way. If we could make the most common processes repeatable with precision, we could not only accelerate IT even more, we could eliminate most of the errors, security holes created, time delays, downtime, cost to go back and get them all consistent, etc.3. IT tools are optimized for how devices work rather than how people work. Over and over again, we saw our customers were forced to adapt how they work because of their management tools. We heard loud and clear that they wanted to adapt and extend their management tools to work the way they worked. They wanted different teams to be able to collaborate, but also work in parallel and automate tasks that were repeated multiple times within a project. If we automate steps (via scripting) between the hand-offs and project steps, we could establish more efficient parallel processes and provide another step-function in time savings; time to revenue.
To close the IT gap we had to fundamentally rethink infrastructure management. And that’s HP OneView, a fresh approach to infrastructure management. With HP OneView we’re providing our customers with a simple, consumer- inspired user experience that dramatically accelerates everyday tasks We’re delivering a software-defined management platform for fast, repeatable IT delivery at lower cost and with less errorsSo what does this really mean to your customers? I’ll let some early results speak for themselves…And we’re delivering an extensible programmable platform that allows your customers to rapidly adapt and optimize project execution
We’ll start with simplifying everyday tasks. As I mentioned earlier, all data center process are based on 5 common tasks. We realized that if we could dramatically simplify those 5 things, we could radically accelerate every process in the data center. These tasks are: Identify and track what needs to get doneCollect basic system and task related informationUnderstand dependencies on connected infrastructureCollaborate across teams to do the workCommunicate progress, completion or failure When we looked at how other IT management tools addressed these tasks today, we were shocked to find that they did little to address these tasks at all. In fact, most of these tasks were performed outside of the tool – offline – via spreadsheets, sticky notes, visio diagrams, emails and phone calls. Our number one goal for HP OneView was to perform these tasks better than anyone in the industry. To do this, we looked for inspiration in consumer tools from our everyday lives. Most modern consumer apps are purpose-built to do specific tasks with simplicity and speed. Google Search as an example finds answers from billions of sources in seconds. We studied 100’s of different online and mobile tools to learn from the best and then applied those lessons to the complexity and scale of the data center.
Take the task of identifying and tracking an issue. Today’s tools overwhelm the user with information. To simplify this, we looked at the best mobile applications and how they summarized massive amounts of information in a single view. From that we created the OneView Dashboard. Through Dashboard, you can assess what’s happening across the entire data center in seconds. Whether you have 20 devices or 20,000 – the view is equally simple and you are just one click away from more detail. In traditional tools that one click becomes more than 30. To help our customers find key information in milliseconds versus hunting through offline records, we created Smart Search. Smart Search is built into almost every task so you have immediate access to the event device, or task information you need. In a converged environment, understanding relationships between devices and connections is critical – especially for change management or troubleshooting. That’s why we created HP Map View. MapView combines device status with relationships so you understand how things are connected from the data center down to the device helping you quickly find, triage and fix problems in seconds or minutes.Collaboration was the 4th common task we found – and for 20 years, IT tools have been built for silos and did nothing to foster collaboration – a critical requirement for convergence. With Templates, your IT teams can work together to create profiles of configurations and procedures. Any configuration or process can now be designed by the experts and captured in software for later use by everyone. Finally, we found that most communications between teams happen outside of the tool versus inside. Just like Facebook or Twitter helps you keep track of daily events, friend and family, Activity Feed is a single place for IT administrators to communicate, work together and stay on the same page with alerts, jobs and projects in the data center. With Activity Feed, communication becomes more connected in and happens in real-time.
The last fundamental difference that all of our customers need to know about HP OneView is how it adapts to work the way our customers do. HP OneView is built on modern, RESTful interface. With this approach our customers can fully program OneView, automating any process step, and allowing OneView to snap in to larger process workflows. Because we used the RESTful language – it’s familiar and simple. With 4 simple commands, you can define and radically simplify the most complex processes. And because the OneView User Interface is built on the same API’s, anything you see in the User Interface can quickly and easily be automated to your specific team and process. All of OneView's API’s are published and freely available for anyone to use.
NOTE TO SALES REP: Customize by putting the People and Process issues that are most relevant to your customerat the top of the lists and speaking to them and explain that you will show how DC addresses these issuesHP interviewed over 300 hundred customers to gain an understanding of their top IT management issues. This is what we discovered. You will notice that all of the top issues fell within people and/or process categories. The number 1 issue is to keep up with Firmware and Software revisions. Resolving complex incidents and choosing , deploying and fully exploiting management tools were also top issues. Warranty and/or traditional break-fix support do not address any of these top issues. Only comprehensive, proactive services like Datacenter Care address the top issues that our customers must overcome to remain competitive and to achieve business objectives and to fully realize the potential of their technology investment. Datacenter Care is flexible and gives you the opportunity to choose the right mix of proactive services to help you address the specific needs and challenges of your IT environment. For example, if you are like most IT teams, keeping up with firmware and patching is a challenge, HP can help through our Firmware and Patch Analysis Service. According to HP internal call analysis shows a majority of non-hardware failures are due to Firmware problems. We do the analysis on the systems/blade enclosures you choose, as frequently as you feel appropriate. We can perform this service across your heterogeneous environment. With HP researching version levels and if they are compatible with each other, you will free-up your staff, and reduce risk of outages.
With the SPP, the story really starts with the processes we are rolling out. The Service Packs and documentation that goes with them, are really the centerpiece here, and all tools, best practices and testing are build around it. The deliverable will not only improve the process, but equally important will inject a significant release cadence predictability into the firmware and systems software update environment. The actual deliverable is a new “Uber” release set – a comprehensive collection of FW and system SW components -- Tested togetherDrivers, agents, non-agents, utilities, firmware packages for servers, controllers, storage, blades and enclosuresIt’s the “PSP + FW DVD”It’s for ALL ProLiant servers not just blades. Our goal: release in sync with server releases; e.g. about 3-5 times a yearUpdates to these releases will occur as needed, but no more frequently than monthlyAll releases including updates will go through integration testing before the release of any component to the webThe strategy is to release in conjunction with server releases which means between 3 to 5 times per year and to do updates only as needed to capture critical fixes. The updates will only have to be used by those customers that are affected by the fixes. So the interim update releases are required for some users and optional (not mandatory for those customers who it doesn’t apply to)If an update release isn’t necessary for a specific site, customers can choose whether they want to use it (or not) since they are not mandatory. This screen shot shows what is actually going to be available for download. The Service Pack for ProLiant is delivered as a family of deliverables with a full ISO and six subset ISOs broken out by operating systems and ProLiant server types. Each subset version of the full ISO includes needed software and firmware smart components required for its specific audience and allows for a customized solution and faster download. You have choice of the full Service Pack for ProLiant Download or 6 subset versions What we are doing is giving customers choice. This slide is showing that customers can Use the entire ISO or one of the subset ISOs described here to access HP SUM and the components included in the SPP, then select and deselect individual components needed for their server configurations and environment.Or, just go to Business Support Center (BSC) for individual components if you need only 1 or 2 components to address a specific new issue or feature. Or, pull from web using HP SUM and apply only those components necessary.

Datacenter Care is able to support your entire heterogeneous IT environment. Imagine a single point of accountability for all of your support needs across your total IT infrastructure, we call that the Primary Service Provider solution. This is a great way to reduce complexity and minimize interoperability issues. Now we will take a look at the primary components of Datacenter Care, starting with the Assigned Account Team
HP technical resources have been trained to quickly add additional skills as a positive action rather than try and solve the problem on their ownIn this example, the problem initially appears to be a Windows problem. After investigating the problem it appears that the problem could be hardware related - so a sub case is opened and sent to the ISS EXPERT who starts to work the problem with the Windows expert remaining in charge of managing the call. It then appears that the problem could be VMware related so another sub case is opened to add a VMware expert to the case. The Windows expert continues to manage the call until resolution. In this way HP has created a very efficient “Just in time collaboration model” by using the call handling system to build virtual teams of the required skills for each problem, multivendor or otherwiseas it occurs.
