The document discusses stylistic influences for a magazine focused on rock music. It profiles several celebrities associated with rock music genres and their styles, such as Hayley Williams' edgy hair colors and tattoos/piercings of Oli Sykes. It also discusses Dyer's star theory, which suggests that celebrity images are constructed and may not reflect their true personalities.
2. Hayley Williams, Paramore
Hayley Williams from the band Paramore has
a conventional style to the style of music her
band is (rock) which is also the genre of my
magazine. She has the conventional look as
she has edgy, bright, daring hair colour.
Paramore well known album cover art saying
‘riot’ is in black, white and red. These are also
the colours I am making my magazine.
3. Alex Gaskarth, All Time Low
All Time Low is a rock band, they are quite
soft, pop-punk type rock. Alex Gaskarth has
conventions of the genre with his long hair,
and style.
4. Kat Von D
Kat Von D isn’t in a band or a singer, she is
a well known tattoo artist. She represents
the genre of rock music due to her heavy
tattooing and piercings, a very edgy look.
She also listen to this genre of music and
portrays it in herself. Her make up in this
picture is the style of make up I will be
doing on the model for my main cover
image. I will also add tattoos onto my main
cover image to give the model the edgy,
rocker look.
5. Oli Sykes, Bring Me The Horizon
Oli Sykes is from the band bring me the horizon. They
are quite a heavy band which do mostly ‘screamo’. Oli
is a stereotypical person from this genre. We know this
from all the tattoos he has and also piercings; these are
conventional, expected things from the genre.
6. Dyer Star Theory
Dyer proposes that:
• A star is an image not a real person that is constructed (as any other aspect
of fiction is) out of a range of materials (eg advertising, magazines etc as
well as films [music]).
This basically means a lot of stars have a certain image they have created for
their celebrity status, but they may not be like that in real life. This may fit into
my genre as some of the celebrities which appear in my genre of music may do
this. A lot of the celebrities within this genre seems very out going and like they
don’t care about their image, but that just may be the image they want, the
carefree image. For example, a lot of rock stars are expected to do drugs and
party all the time as they’re represented like this, but they may not be like this,
they may be a lot quieter and chilled out than what they’re shown to be. Some
may be like what they appear to the public eye, but are often told to exaggerate
it to show this attitude more to the public eye.
