“
T
he societal good that a financial advisor does
for our nation, businesses, and families is
paramount,” says Michael Pennica, Founder and
President of Pennica Financial Group (PFG).
That’s why he and his wife Carol, Partner/
Senior Vice President at PFG, have built their
company on the concept of helping and educating middle class
America. “You could say that our niche within the “Main Street”
market is business owners, military/veterans, and baby boomers; a
good cross-section of our society,” he explains. “As an independent
financial services firm, we are able to teach Main Street financial
concepts that often elude today’s investors.”
A United States military veteran, Pennica served in the Air
Force for 23 years, directly supporting and participating in combat
operations during campaigns in Granada, Panama, and Operation
Desert Storm. I was responsible for managing hundreds of
people and millions of dollars of assets, which provided me with
management and operational experience. He credits this experience,
along with his middle class upbringing, for driving his business
philosophy and social conscience.
Raised by grandparents on a fixed income, Pennica says, “My
middle class roots sparked my thirst for financial knowledge.
I wanted to know how to build net worth and how to build a
company.” Just as important, the core values, integrity, work ethic,
and duty-before-self learned in the military inspired him with the
lifelong desire to help others.
The firm dedicates a substantial percentage of its time and
resources to support worthy causes that assist local and national
non-profits.The firm also routinely hires and trains veterans to be
financial advisors, including a recent Air Force Academy graduate
whom they brought on last year. Pennica was pleased when his firm
was named Veteran Small Business of the Year in 2014 by the Small
Business Development Center (SBDC).
Pennica feels equally proud of and committed to his firm’s
independent status. “We define a pure independent as a company
that is not owned or affiliated with a major brokerage, bank, or
insurance concern,” he explains. “Additionally, we pride ourselves
on being comprehensive advisors—someone who can look at many
different financial situations.”
When creating financial plans, advisors at PFG look at many
aspects of a client’s situation including income and expenses,
debt servicing, cash reserves, life insurance, retirement, college
funding, and estate planning issues. “A common theme for most
people is that they are afraid of not being prepared for retirement
and running out of money,” says Pennica. “We look at budgeting,
expense control, starting early in life and the importance of long
term planning.” According to Pennica, the firm’s tag line, “Wealth
Strategies for a Changing World ™,” speaks to being flexible and
how wealth strategies must evolve as our world and markets change.
When asked what the highest compliment a client can give his
firm, Pennica says, “I like when they say that we changed their lives
and empowered them to accomplish their financial goals. But most
important is when they call me their “trusted friend”.”
