RENAISSANCE
 INVENTIONS
         By Daniel Herten 8A
GALILEO GALILEI
 The clock was invented in the 14th
    century, but when Galileo invented
    the mechanical clock, everything
    changed.
 This invention was used to keep
track of time during the day.
 I think that this invention had a
lasting impact on the world because
the new modern watch today is
small, easy to travel with, light, and
easy to read. In the 14th century we
would need to go find a sundial to
check what time of day it was.
GALILEO GALILEI
 In 1606 Galileo invented the
    thermoscope. This invention is
    used to measure the
    temperature of things.
 The way it worked was it
    measured by how different
    materials reacted to heat.
 I think that this is a lasting
    invention because it inspired
    us to invent the thermometer
    and with a thermometer we
    can conduct experiments to
see how hot things get and
    how different things react to
    each other.
SIR JOHN HARRINGTON
 Sir john Harrington created
the first flush toilet in 1596.
    Queen Elisabeth was the
only one to use this toilet. Sir
    John was teased and never
    made another again.
 I think that this invention had
    a lasting impact because 200
    years later Alexander
    Cunnings reinvented the
    toilet because of Johns idea.
    Today there is a toilet
    everywhere, houses, hotels,
    malls, and even airports have
    toilets because of Sir
    John.
HANS LIPPERSHEY
 In the 16th century Hans
    Lippershey invented lenses
    for the microscope and the
    telescope.
 I think that this had a
    lasting impact on the world
    because today scientists
    use telescopes and
    microscopes to discover
    new things in the world,
    educating us on new
    information. Without
    microscopes we wouldn't
    have special medicine for
    certain illnesses. We
    developed medicine
    because of microscopes.
    We also discovered that
the sun is the middle of the
    universe because of the
    telescope, leading to the
    rule of gravity.
JOHANNES GUTENBURG
 In the 15th century Johannes
    Gutenburg invented the printing
press. He used the press to
press ink on hundreds of letters
at one time, he also used his
new invention to mass print the
    first printed book, the Bible.
 I think that this invention had a
    lasting impact on the world
    because today a good example
    is the daily newspaper.
    Thousands of newspapers are
    printed every hour because
people need to know the news
    and the hottest events. Although
we get the news on the TV
people still like to read the
    newspapers daily. All these are
    printed using a modernized
    printing press. This also counts
for a small printer in your own
    house.
LEONARDO DAVINCI
 Leorando Davinci developed
    the first submarine in secrecy.
    He didn't want to show
    anyone any of his inventions.
 I think that this invention
    impacted our world today
    because in the 16th century,
    William Borne started to draw
    pictures of submarines.
    Because of the drawing
    inspired by Leonardo people
    in the 17th century started
    developing and creating
    submarines.
CASPAR VOPEL
 Caspar Vopel invented the
    aemillary sphere in 1543.
    This invention serves the
    purpose of establishing
    where different planets are at
    different times and years.
 Ironically when he
    announced his invention, it
    also helped Copernicus a
while later to figure out that
the sun is in the middle of the
    universe. This affects our
lives today because of how it
    help us make maps and
    show other countries in an
    easy way instead of just
    pointing West or South.
BATTISIA ALBERTI
 In the 15th century Battisia
    Alberti invented the
    anemometer. This device is
    used to measure wind power
    and pressure.
 This invention had a lasting
    impact on the world because
now we can figure out how
    powerful tornados are and how
much air there is in one place.
For example, a mine where you
    need oxygen. It is also
    important because it helps us
    develop better planes and other
    flying things.
BALISE PASCAL
 In 1642, Balise created the
    first adding machine. This
    was designed to help his
    father count taxes. It was
    called the pascaline.
 This invention helped
    develop calculators and
    more advanced math
    capabilities for what a
    machine could do. It also
    led to probability computer
    programing.
WILLIAM LEE
 In 1589 William Lee
    invented the worlds first
    mechanical knitting
    machine. This was
    used at first to make
    stockings but soon
    overtook the older way.
 I think that this
    invention had a lasting
    impact on the world
    because now all the
    clothes we wear are
    made using knitting
    machines.
