“I don’t give a damn bout my reputation” Ellen Dudley
German Hackers
Just rob me
STATUS IS LIKE CURRENCY So what's more important—money or social standing?
I can only hope that they’ll turn that anger and frustration and madness into something positive, so that two, three, four, five hundred will step forward, so the gay doctors will come out, the gay lawyers, the gay judges, gay bankers, gay architects … I hope that every professional gay will say ‘enough’, come forward and tell everybody, wear a sign, let the world know. Maybe that will help.” Harvey Milk, 1978

  1. Went to this conveference in Germany – heard about PRIVACY – I was wandering around with my video camera before I was told to put it away, that people there dont want people to know they are there...
  2. Etc I was fascinated by this, and was on a hunt to find out why? What were they ashamed of? It tuns out, that they fear what people can do wh=ithtaht data: I thought – whats the worst they can do? Say I like having sex with elephants? Helicopters come and shoot me??
  3. Its about them taking your data and messing with it - What will your emloyer think – ahh self employed so don’t care Ah –
  4. Its about being able to lie about where you are so people dont rob you right?caring about where you are – people will rob you – well peiople know Im not at home when I leave, so no big deal...
  5. Its about them saying what you are doing is aginst the law... But what if a new law comes in that makes all elephant shaggers are criminals... Look what happened to the jews...Its about worst case scnario is they could decide that all elepahntshaggers are criminals and you’re fucked. But most of us crave privacy for other reasonsPrivacy also means that you cant get locked up... Thats bad for paedophiles, or scary people, but what if Sure, if they decide to lock up, or incinerate all the people who shag elepahtnat, that could be an issue..But lets look aside from fears of incarcination and we find
  6. I dontbeleive any of it – the main craving for privacy is about being able to lie –what do people think of you – about who you are with, what you are doing, *really* – its about reputation
  7. And this is quote from Glee – so WHO WOULD BLAME US - We process cash and social values in the same part of our brain (the striatum)—and likely weigh them against one another when making decisions.
  8. I am above all this reputation stuff, i thought - I am a Blogger twiiterre, diary entries in cancer stuff - book writer. So what if I shageelpahnts– who cares if people think I am a looneyI like to blog a lot and even tried to write a book about my encounter with breast cnacer... Here’s me being all open – we live in a free country, so I take advantage of it, or so i thought...
  9. Because if you arent open, if you dont tell anyone that you like having sex with elephants, than everyone will still think that having sex with elephants is dirty – something wrong with it otherwise- oh ellen has esex with elephants, and she is cool – NORMALISE IT
  10. Milk said Gay movement in San fransciso – with Milk – was all bout telling the people around you that you are gay, because then there will be a faster acceptance – when everyone knows someone who is gay
  11. But then i realised I’m an almighty hypocrite - do have that fear – I even get worried about what people think of me coming out of public toilets for gods sake`- pretty girls dont pee
  12. When i was having a chat with a cute guy on twitter i found myself deleting blog posts and any evidence that I had a husband or breast cancer in the past–I was like - CANCEL THE BOOK!!! I dont want them to know all that stuff!! Gotta keep my options open – sorry adrian
  13. But its exhausting – hiding everyhting - where can we still lie about what who we really are and what we are really doing & thinking? Where can we still be free to be ourselves? In our houses.. Just about – where we can pee in peace, and work in our pyjamas it turns out there are two refuges from the fears of what people think of you: and the first one is pivacy – picure of privacy - offline – the last refuge - in our houses we can get up to almost anything
  14. And we can implement privacy onloine – with more and more effort... anonymous blogging, firewalls, private data, etc;
  15. But still our behaviour online is being monitored without us realising it – facebook released data on usage during valentines day, saying that people who were in relationships were happier than people who were married...
  16. We are told that cameras inside our home and strip searches employed at airports are for our own safety, we are moving into a world that is more and more like taht depicted in The Travelor
  17. Where we are living in the panopticaon prison of Jeremy Bentham with an invisible omnisicience, where you self regulate, thinking that someone is always watching you. The Panopticon is a type of prison building designed by English philosopher and social theorist Jeremy Bentham in 1785. The concept of the design is to allow an observer to observe (-opticon) all (pan-) prisoners without the prisoners being able to tell whether they are being watched, thereby conveying what one architect has called the "sentiment of an invisible omniscience."[1]Bentham himself described the Panopticon as "a new mode of obtaining power of mind over mind, in a quantity hitherto without example.
  18. But there’s another loophole, to cure any reputation worries temporarily, and thatsalcohol. People no longer care about what people think of them – they’ll tell that guy they fancy him, they’ll lie, they’ll steal, puke etc. Never mind peeing in public toilets, they’ll pee anywhere
  19. But I dont drink, and I’ll leave the online stuff to the paranoid hackers, so my solution that helps me escape is to stop caring what people think of meandrelax this reputation gene
  20. Becuase no where is safe! – Care about people – not about what they think of you
