BRAZILIAN ARCHITECT
• Born on 25 October 1928, Vitoria, Espirito Santo, Brazil.
• Completed graduation from the Universiade Presbiteriana Mackenzie
College of Architecture.
• Designed buildings since 1957, many of them built in concrete, a
method some called “BRAZILIAN BRUTALISM”.
• Works influenced by Brazilian architect Vilanova Artigas, from the
Paulist Brazilian School.
• Honoured with : Mies van der Rohe Prize(2000)
The Pritzker Prize(2006)
The Venice Biennale golden Lion or lifetime
Achievement(2016)
• Designed Gymnasium in the Paulistano Athletics Club(1958), State
Museum of Sao Paulo(1993), Brazilian Museum of Sculpture(1988).

DESCRIPTION
• Site measuring 75000 sq.ft on main thoroughfare in Sao Paulo.
• Instead of creating a freestanding building, the museum and the
landscape are treated as a whole.
• Use of concrete expressing brutalism.
• The great 97ft. Long and 39ft. Wide beam frames the museum
forming a loggia or porch.
• Museum’s differing ceiling heights create a stepped outdoor space
that is split by the entry fissure giving it a multi-functionality to
create outdoor seating for the plaza space.
