7. Succumb to the
spell of the Scottish
Highlands.
For centuries, the residents of Deeside kept a secret. A land so special
that all who set foot upon it wished they could never leave. Beneath
its towering oaks they felt their spirits lifted taller than the treetops.
Amidst the rolling hills they found tranquility with every step. Within its
shimmering lochs they discovered a beauty that surpassed any crown
jewel. Even those accustomed to a life of splendour–including Queen
Victoria herself–couldn’t help but surrender heart and soul to the land’s
magnificence.
To this day, the Royal family considers this land a cherished Highland
hideaway. Due to its royal patronage, it is now known simply as “Royal
Deeside.” And now, you too can have the privilege of calling it home.

9. Heather-coloured hills. Sun-dappled lochs. Endless expanses of fresh air.
Wide open spaces that stretch for miles and miles. No wonder Queen
Victoria found her heart “fixed in this dear paradise.”
10.
11. Lose hours exploring
the countryside.
Find a new side of
yourself.
Craigendarroch is Gaelic for “hill of the oaks,” and from the windows
of your holiday home at the Craigendarroch Suites, you will understand
why. All around you, the lush valley unfurls, inviting you to explore.
Wander the gently rolling hills and let the crisp mountain air clear away
any thoughts of an agenda. Stroll through tranquil forests with no
one but the pine, oaks and silver birch to keep you company. Feeling
adventurous? Dare yourself to try something new. And if you’ve never
gone salmon fishing before, one of the most famous salmon rivers in
the world isn’t a bad place to start.

15. Make yourself at home
in the heart of Royal
Deeside.
For over a century, Craigendarroch has occupied a special place in the history
of Royal Deeside. The Keiller family built the estate as a private weekend retreat
in 1891. During World War II, child evacuees and Army officers found shelter
within its stone walls. When it was converted to a hotel in 1952, visitors found
the Royal Deeside retreat of their dreams.
Today, that hotel has been completely transformed into thirty-two luxurious
studios, one-bedroom and two-bedroom suites. The Craigendarroch Suites
continue to offer a secluded hideaway … one that your family and friends
can now enjoy year after year. The property shares thirty-three acres of
lush woodlands with the Craigendarroch Lodges, which offer 99 additional
accommodations in the heart of the hillside. Though you’re just 17 miles
from Braemar and 42 miles from Aberdeen and the international airport, the
peaceful setting and breathtaking landscape will make you feel like you’ve been
transported to an entirely different place, time and state of mind.
16. Local stone and timber evoke the Highland landscape,
whilst luxurious fabrics and modern conveniences make
you feel right at home. Only better.
17. After an exciting day discovering the local charms, your hilltop retreat
beckons with all the comforts of home. Enjoy complimentary internet
access, a television, the convenience of a kitchenette or full kitchen,
Villeroy & Boch tableware, and plenty of space to relax with a light
meal. Most suites feature a fireplace, and our one-bedroom and two-
bedroom suites combine comfort with the convenience of a sofa bed
in the lounge and an extra room for more privacy. So feel free to invite
even more loved ones on your annual getaways.
When it comes to
making memories, the
more the merrier.
18. After climbing in the Cairngorm Mountains, clay pigeon
shooting, perhaps touring the Palace of Scone (the ancient
capital of Scotland), and discovering the charms of our local
villages, nothing beats the comfort and familiarity of home.
19.
20. If you’re ready for a change of scenery but not ready to leave the resort,
come kick back in the Oak Room, our exclusive Member Lounge.
Sink into the comfortably sophisticated furnishings and savour a light
breakfast or afternoon tea, prepared with you in mind. Catch up on the
news or your favourite television shows, then check your e-mail using
the complimentary Wi-Fi. Or unplug completely and settle in with a
nice, warm cup of coffee or tea (our treat) or perhaps a single malt.
let the memories
of your day in the
stunning Scottish
countryside work
their magic.
21.
22. At the Craigendarroch Suites, you and your family and friends can have
a great time together without even leaving the resort. Stop by the
Keiller Brasserie, our resort restaurant, for a delicious meal filled with
great conversation. For a cosier setting, the Keiller Lounge, our elegant
bar, is perfect for swapping secrets. Our tennis court, squash court and
a full-service gym are available if you feel like working up a sweat … so
is a sauna and whirlpool spa, if that’s more your speed. Looking for
something fun for the whole family? The swimming pools and snooker
room are open to all ages. Of course, if all you really want is some
peace, quiet and pampering, there’s always The House Spa.
23. The salmon leaping upon the Falls of Feugh.
The sun setting into majestic Loch Muick.
The smile on the face of someone you love when they conquer
the highest 18-hole golf course in the United Kingdom.
25. Venture far beyond
your own horizons.
When you holiday at the Craigendarroch Suites, the most vivid aspects
of Gaelic culture thrive just a few miles from your front door. Get
a taste of royal living by touring Balmoral Castle, summer home of
the Royal family. A short stroll away, visit our own charming village of
Ballater, where the butcher pairs his cuts with cooking tips and the
baker won’t let you leave without tasting the Scottish shortbread. Travel
back in time to the breathtaking fairytale castles of Glamis and Drum,
and the 18th century gardens of Crathes. Then return to your hillside
home, your heart brimming with new and treasured memories.
26. Browse the independent boutiques that line the village
streets. Explore the treasured landmarks that dot the
countryside. The local culture is calling.
27. Whether you travel by foot, bicycle or skis, exploring the
spectacular Scottish mountainside will get your spirits soaring.
28. Awaken your spirit
of adventure.
If all that crisp mountain air fills you with energy to spare, Royal Deeside
offers plenty of ways to use it. Challenge yourself with a round at one
of the region’s renowned golf courses. Get your blood pumping with
a brisk walk or bike ride through the mountainside. Gather the whole
group together for a fishing trip or friendly target shooting contest.
And if you love to ski, you’ll love having two ski resorts less than an
hour away.
29. Royal Deeside comprises a cluster of villages situated on a 26-mile
stretch of the River Dee. The Craigendarroch Suites are located at the
heart of the region, immediately above the village of Ballater, eight miles
from Crathie, and 17 miles from Braemar. Drive 42 miles to Aberdeen
to catch the train south or flights from the international airport. For a
wonderful day trip, the major cities of Edinburgh and Glasgow offer a
big-city take on Scottish culture and are only about 2.5 hours away.
