2. The aim of the project was to establish a coherent
marketing package for a band of our choice that was
unsigned. This included the music video, Digipak and
the Print Advert. Each of these had to include a house
style which would attract people to the actual product
and provide the band with an individual brand image.
I used a coherent house style within my marketing
package to clearly show the genre and the bands
individual style.
3. Costume
For the narrative of our music video we wanted our costumes to link in with the
genre and the concept of our band. As a narrative was about a friends going on a
road trip we wanted our cast to dress accordingly and suitably for the conditions.
We decided to dress our cast in clothes that we felt related to the indie genre and that
can be seen as normal everyday clothes. We used clothes that were laidback such as
skinny jeans, chinos, denim jacket, printed T-shits and coats. By using clothes that
relate to our genre we felt that it will appeal to our audience as it has a sense of
normality and that it was realistic and laidback.
For our props we decided to use props that we felt were relevant to our narrative.
We used props such as a guitar, tent, rucksack, sleeping bags and wellies. We
decided to use these items as we wanted to display the same feelings as the costumes
which were a laidback vibe. We found that these props were quite common in other
indie music videos so we found that they would be relevant for our music video. We
used the guitar in both our narrative and our performance elements of the music
video to show continuity. We found that by using the guitar throughout the music
video helped portray the indie genre and would link to our target audience. We
discovered that in our research and planning that the guitar was commonly used in
indie genre music videos so we felt that it would relate to our genre and link in with
our concept.
4. Font
For my font I used the font called ‘Love Ya Like A Sister.’
From my research I found that many artists in the Indie
genre use the same font within each of their products.
This shows continuity and individualism. I decided to
use this idea in my work as I felt that it would show
professionalism and would be identifiable and
recognisable to band by using the same font.
I chose this font because it was the most popular choice
when I asked my target audience. It also relates well to
my target audience.
I chose a mixture of black and white for my text as it
went better with the background that I had chosen for
the print work.
5. lighting
For our lighting we decided to have natural light for the
narrative part of the music video. We decided this because
from researching other music videos we found that many
indie bands use natural lighting in their videos to portray a
laidback vibe rather then using artificial light which doesn't’t
relate to our genre.
For the performance part of the video we used artificial
lighting as we was inside. Also as we was using artificial
lighting we were able to direct the light to help emphasis the
performers. This creates originality and entropic features as
this is seen very often in music videos.
For our photo-shoot we decided to stick to the natural lighting
at do the photo-shoot outside so that it relates to the target
audience.
6. Visual Theme
Throughout my marketing package I have decided
use an individual style and apply filters to my
images from the photo-shoot for my digipak and
print advert. I am using filters as I found that it is
fairly common in the indie genre. By having filters
on each of my products it shows a sense of
continuity and redundancy.
I used images from the photo shoot for the print
work as I felt they related well to the genre and the
video that we created.
