2. Alice Alice fits into the same social group as James and in that respect follows (and breaks) the same conventions and stereotypes as James. The costume reflects the setting of the opening well. The south is stereotypically a wealthier area than other regions of England, so this is reflected in the quality of the costume. This shows the characters maintain a certain standard which could give positive connotations about their social group to those within the social group. On the other hand there could also be negative connotations if people regard the characters as “snobbish”. However as our target audience was also the same general social group as our characters it was more likely the costume would present a more positive representation.
3. Alice #2 Alice is shown as quite a powerful figure, this is clear through the angles of shots used to portray her. Notably the use of a low angle when she is talking to James. The use of this shot and that Alice is framed against the sky giving almost a halo effect, is that we get connotations of both innocence and power which in the context of social groups helps to break down stereotypes which is a key theme of the film set up by James’ character.
