Finance
In a creative media production finance is used to enable to production team to get the
media production done efficiently and well. This can be achieved through planning
everything that needs to be hired. This finance e however differs from each type of media as
there are different things you need for the different platforms of media. An example of this
is if you were making a type of social media you shall not need the same equipment as you
do if you were to be making a filmproduction. You shall also not need as big of a budget as
you need to a social media platform as you do to making a film. However, finance shall help
keep all your production organized for whatever type of media you shall be doing as it sets
smaller goals and also make sure that you budget is being used efficiently and wisely. This
shall impact the overall final product as you shall know where and what your money from
your budget is going into, meaning less time spent finding things you need whilst your
supposed to be doing other requirements.
Film:
Out of all the mediums the finance is the most important in the film
industry due to its massive budgets and huge amount of time taken and
put into making the movie. An example of a movie that has used a mass
amount of finance and has had one of the biggest budgets of all time is
the Avengers age of Ultron which is listed number 3 of the all-time most
expensive productions. This was due to the amount of people used in the
movie as well as the amount of CGI used and special effects.
Radio:
Finance in the radio and audio industry is not as big as the filmindustry but of course still
plays a big part in the business. The reason why you
need finance in the audio and radio industry is so
that the radio can carry on running throughout the
day. The way that the radio will be able to achieve
this is through sponsorships as well as adverts to go
in the break slots. A good example of a radio that has
a good finance scheme is BBC radio 4 this radio is the
most profitable radio within the UK due to finance.

Video games
Video games use finance to make the games they are making better quality. The way they
get this finance is through sponsorship to make the video game as well as using big
production companies to help boost publicity. One of the biggest
ever games that has a huge profit and is the most expensive game
around today is Grand Theft Auto costing up to sixty pounds when
it first came out. This was due to the amount of time spent on
making the game and the detail used. This game takes around six
years to make and has over two hundred missions within the
story and about the same in the online game.
Digital Publishing:
Digital publishing uses finance to make sure that they can keep
their websites up and running, they do this through allowing advertisement on their sites as
well as making people pay to see certain things on the page. This is quite a big industry as
almost all the world use the digital media daily. This means that they shall be going onto
certain websites and looking at certain things, meaning that a lot of money could come from
this.

Requirement of finance
The way you could use advertising to help you fund your production work is companies may
want get more publicity so they shall ask to advertise on your production work, within a
time where your production is not occurring. This shall benefit you and they as you shall be
getting paid to let them to advertise on your production piece and they shall get more
publicity, which means they may get more money. When I’m doing my pre-production work
I shall try get advertisement as it means a partnership and for a production that shall not be
mainstream production it shall help get more publicity if I were to pair up with a company.
His shall also help me with the funding of my production work meaning a bigger budget.
Sponsorship shall help with your financing as a company or business that shall go towards
building shall give you money and making your production and paying for everything you
need to make the production. They may also just sponsor you for certain things for example,
equipment needed for the production. This means that you shall have to spend less of your
budget on buying or renting out equipment. If were to be making a production work and
when I do I shall use this to help me spend less money on renting out equipment, this would
mean less budget spent and also a bigger profit.
Another way you could get help with funding your production is through the use of sales
and advertising your production. This shall benefit you as it shall give your company and
production publicity meaning more people shall listen, watch or read your media project.
For when I make my media production I may use a teaser trailer and franchise to expand my
audience and publicity meaning I shall get more profit. This however shall take some of the
budget meaning that I shall have less of a budget for the actual production.
The money that you are given by either your sponsors, people who want to advertise on
your production and from other forms shall go into making your budget. This budget shall
need to be spent on everything from hiring equipment to people drawing out storyboards.
First you shall have to plan out your shots to make sure they are possible to perform with
the budget you have. After this you shall have to be able to pay for the facilities you shall be
using and make sure that is possible with the budget that you have. This shall help plan out
your filming efficiently as well as you shall know exactly what shall be occurring. You shall
also have to pay for hiring equipment as well as hiring actors. The way that I shall make sure
that I have my budget has all been spent and planned out efficiently is through listing down
everything that I need and fit it into the budget.
You shall also need lots of clearance’s as well as making sure everything is legal and safety
checks have took place. The way you can perform safety checks and the way I shall do this
when I do production work is through doing a reece of the area.

Time
Time is very important within a media production. It helps sets us goals as well as making
sure we are working at the right speed.
Having a time deadline will help speed up and make production time more efficient. Having
a dead line also sets a virtual finish line for you keeping you motivated and wanting to work.
A dead line shall also force you to think about what it will take and how much time it will
take to finish the goal you are setting for example a film production, this shall keep you
motivated and willing to do the work for the accomplishment at the end. Having a dead line
shall help you prioritize what you’ll work on and for how long. This means you shall not
waste valuable time on something that should only take one day but ends up taking five as
you do not have a deadline for it, an example of this is how long you take to edit one scene
from your trailer or movie. Deadlines also push us to do well if we didn’t have deadlines
your movie could take seven years to create rather than three. It helps us become more
efficient and eager to do well as there are many consequences of delaying the finishing
product of a production.
Availability shall also change the amount of time you spend on your production as actors
shall need to have a free schedule as well as the camera crew. You should always set dates
as soon as possible so that you can get the days you want and where you want. An example
of this is transferred like your booking a holiday, if you book a holiday early the flights are
cheaper as are the accommodation and you are able to stay where ever you like. If you were
to give short notice your flights shall be more expensive and you may have to stay in a place
you didn’t want to. This transfers into location and actors, if you leave booking and setting
dates to the last minute you may not get what you were looking for as well as having to pay
more money to use a facility. If you set dates early its less likely that the personnel or
equipment shall be busy or not available.
Having time scales for media projects are very important. The reason for this is they allow
the actors and crew to know how long they shall have at doing each scene, as well as the
director knowing, what needs to be done. They shall help keep the production tightly
organized.

STORYBOARDS
A story board is a sequence of photos/drawings, mostly with directions and dialogue
telling the production team what is going on, this is normally representing shots that
shall occur with planning films, music video, a trailer etc…
Rough sketches help show
what is going on in the shot
and what the actors shall be
doing. They also show the
camera shot and angle to
help the production crew
make the scene.
The writing about the shot
tells and describes what’s
going on and what type of
shot is going on as well as
how long the shots are
lasting and the number of
the shot.
This shot shows the angle of
this shot and also tells us
what is going to be
occurring in the shot
“shoves air tank in sharks
mouth”
The producers use storyboards to help the production team understand what is
going on in the shot they are about to set up. It also saves lots of money and time
if the shots are all planned out. This also helps with knowing what props that shall
be needed and also help you have a money margin, so you know if it fits within
your budget.

Storyline
A storyline is a detailed description of the plot of your production, films, TV programs and
other media productions, the reason these are used by production companies is so the
actors and the rest of the crew who are filming the production know the back story and the
basic information of the film/production.
An example of a storyline I have got is the first Iron Man movie; this was taken from the
website IMDb:
‘The playboy wolf and genius Tony Stark is the successful CIO of the Stark Industries, a
weapon company founded by his father. His second in command is Obadiah Stane, who
worked with his father, and his loyal and professional secretary is Pepper Potts, who has a
crush on Tony. While in Afghanistan to demonstrate the ultimate Jericho missile developed
by his company, his military convoy is attacked and Tony is seriously wounded on his chest
and kidnapped by a group of rebels that wants him to assemble a missile for their use. Tony
stays with his abductors for three months and develops a powerful metallic armor to escape
from the cave where he is arrested. He decides to stop manufacturing weapons in his
company under the protest of Obadiah, and dedicates his time to improve the armor,
manufacturing it with gold and titanium and installing a propulsion systemto fly. However,
Pepper discovers that Tony was betrayed by Obadiah, who is using Tony's data to build
prototype armor for him, transforming it in the ultimate weapon.’
The reason why a producer would use them is to help the crew and everyone involved in
the making of the movie to know the base storyline of the movie. The reason why a
storyline is a vital part of the pre-production process is that everything can be made and
based around the storyline, this shall help with the storyboards.
Important as it describes
Tony’s personality within
the movie
This is important to have in the storyline
as it tells the crew what he does as well
as the company he’s made and what
they make
Tells us
his
partner’s
This describes how the
Iron Man was made and
why it was needed
Describes how the story
goes on and how he must
use the suit to defeat his
enemy

  • 3. Lingfield Media BTEC Matthew Eades 3 Finance In a creative media production finance is used to enable to production team to get the media production done efficiently and well. This can be achieved through planning everything that needs to be hired. This finance e however differs from each type of media as there are different things you need for the different platforms of media. An example of this is if you were making a type of social media you shall not need the same equipment as you do if you were to be making a filmproduction. You shall also not need as big of a budget as you need to a social media platform as you do to making a film. However, finance shall help keep all your production organized for whatever type of media you shall be doing as it sets smaller goals and also make sure that you budget is being used efficiently and wisely. This shall impact the overall final product as you shall know where and what your money from your budget is going into, meaning less time spent finding things you need whilst your supposed to be doing other requirements. Film: Out of all the mediums the finance is the most important in the film industry due to its massive budgets and huge amount of time taken and put into making the movie. An example of a movie that has used a mass amount of finance and has had one of the biggest budgets of all time is the Avengers age of Ultron which is listed number 3 of the all-time most expensive productions. This was due to the amount of people used in the movie as well as the amount of CGI used and special effects. Radio: Finance in the radio and audio industry is not as big as the filmindustry but of course still plays a big part in the business. The reason why you need finance in the audio and radio industry is so that the radio can carry on running throughout the day. The way that the radio will be able to achieve this is through sponsorships as well as adverts to go in the break slots. A good example of a radio that has a good finance scheme is BBC radio 4 this radio is the most profitable radio within the UK due to finance.
  • 4. Lingfield Media BTEC Matthew Eades 4 Video games Video games use finance to make the games they are making better quality. The way they get this finance is through sponsorship to make the video game as well as using big production companies to help boost publicity. One of the biggest ever games that has a huge profit and is the most expensive game around today is Grand Theft Auto costing up to sixty pounds when it first came out. This was due to the amount of time spent on making the game and the detail used. This game takes around six years to make and has over two hundred missions within the story and about the same in the online game. Digital Publishing: Digital publishing uses finance to make sure that they can keep their websites up and running, they do this through allowing advertisement on their sites as well as making people pay to see certain things on the page. This is quite a big industry as almost all the world use the digital media daily. This means that they shall be going onto certain websites and looking at certain things, meaning that a lot of money could come from this.
  • 6. Lingfield Media BTEC Matthew Eades 6 Requirement of finance The way you could use advertising to help you fund your production work is companies may want get more publicity so they shall ask to advertise on your production work, within a time where your production is not occurring. This shall benefit you and they as you shall be getting paid to let them to advertise on your production piece and they shall get more publicity, which means they may get more money. When I’m doing my pre-production work I shall try get advertisement as it means a partnership and for a production that shall not be mainstream production it shall help get more publicity if I were to pair up with a company. His shall also help me with the funding of my production work meaning a bigger budget. Sponsorship shall help with your financing as a company or business that shall go towards building shall give you money and making your production and paying for everything you need to make the production. They may also just sponsor you for certain things for example, equipment needed for the production. This means that you shall have to spend less of your budget on buying or renting out equipment. If were to be making a production work and when I do I shall use this to help me spend less money on renting out equipment, this would mean less budget spent and also a bigger profit. Another way you could get help with funding your production is through the use of sales and advertising your production. This shall benefit you as it shall give your company and production publicity meaning more people shall listen, watch or read your media project. For when I make my media production I may use a teaser trailer and franchise to expand my audience and publicity meaning I shall get more profit. This however shall take some of the budget meaning that I shall have less of a budget for the actual production. The money that you are given by either your sponsors, people who want to advertise on your production and from other forms shall go into making your budget. This budget shall need to be spent on everything from hiring equipment to people drawing out storyboards. First you shall have to plan out your shots to make sure they are possible to perform with the budget you have. After this you shall have to be able to pay for the facilities you shall be using and make sure that is possible with the budget that you have. This shall help plan out your filming efficiently as well as you shall know exactly what shall be occurring. You shall also have to pay for hiring equipment as well as hiring actors. The way that I shall make sure that I have my budget has all been spent and planned out efficiently is through listing down everything that I need and fit it into the budget. You shall also need lots of clearance’s as well as making sure everything is legal and safety checks have took place. The way you can perform safety checks and the way I shall do this when I do production work is through doing a reece of the area.
  • 7. Lingfield Media BTEC Matthew Eades 7 Time Time is very important within a media production. It helps sets us goals as well as making sure we are working at the right speed. Having a time deadline will help speed up and make production time more efficient. Having a dead line also sets a virtual finish line for you keeping you motivated and wanting to work. A dead line shall also force you to think about what it will take and how much time it will take to finish the goal you are setting for example a film production, this shall keep you motivated and willing to do the work for the accomplishment at the end. Having a dead line shall help you prioritize what you’ll work on and for how long. This means you shall not waste valuable time on something that should only take one day but ends up taking five as you do not have a deadline for it, an example of this is how long you take to edit one scene from your trailer or movie. Deadlines also push us to do well if we didn’t have deadlines your movie could take seven years to create rather than three. It helps us become more efficient and eager to do well as there are many consequences of delaying the finishing product of a production. Availability shall also change the amount of time you spend on your production as actors shall need to have a free schedule as well as the camera crew. You should always set dates as soon as possible so that you can get the days you want and where you want. An example of this is transferred like your booking a holiday, if you book a holiday early the flights are cheaper as are the accommodation and you are able to stay where ever you like. If you were to give short notice your flights shall be more expensive and you may have to stay in a place you didn’t want to. This transfers into location and actors, if you leave booking and setting dates to the last minute you may not get what you were looking for as well as having to pay more money to use a facility. If you set dates early its less likely that the personnel or equipment shall be busy or not available. Having time scales for media projects are very important. The reason for this is they allow the actors and crew to know how long they shall have at doing each scene, as well as the director knowing, what needs to be done. They shall help keep the production tightly organized.
  • 8. Lingfield Media BTEC Matthew Eades 8 STORYBOARDS A story board is a sequence of photos/drawings, mostly with directions and dialogue telling the production team what is going on, this is normally representing shots that shall occur with planning films, music video, a trailer etc… Rough sketches help show what is going on in the shot and what the actors shall be doing. They also show the camera shot and angle to help the production crew make the scene. The writing about the shot tells and describes what’s going on and what type of shot is going on as well as how long the shots are lasting and the number of the shot. This shot shows the angle of this shot and also tells us what is going to be occurring in the shot “shoves air tank in sharks mouth” The producers use storyboards to help the production team understand what is going on in the shot they are about to set up. It also saves lots of money and time if the shots are all planned out. This also helps with knowing what props that shall be needed and also help you have a money margin, so you know if it fits within your budget.
  • 9. Lingfield Media BTEC Matthew Eades 9 Storyline A storyline is a detailed description of the plot of your production, films, TV programs and other media productions, the reason these are used by production companies is so the actors and the rest of the crew who are filming the production know the back story and the basic information of the film/production. An example of a storyline I have got is the first Iron Man movie; this was taken from the website IMDb: ‘The playboy wolf and genius Tony Stark is the successful CIO of the Stark Industries, a weapon company founded by his father. His second in command is Obadiah Stane, who worked with his father, and his loyal and professional secretary is Pepper Potts, who has a crush on Tony. While in Afghanistan to demonstrate the ultimate Jericho missile developed by his company, his military convoy is attacked and Tony is seriously wounded on his chest and kidnapped by a group of rebels that wants him to assemble a missile for their use. Tony stays with his abductors for three months and develops a powerful metallic armor to escape from the cave where he is arrested. He decides to stop manufacturing weapons in his company under the protest of Obadiah, and dedicates his time to improve the armor, manufacturing it with gold and titanium and installing a propulsion systemto fly. However, Pepper discovers that Tony was betrayed by Obadiah, who is using Tony's data to build prototype armor for him, transforming it in the ultimate weapon.’ The reason why a producer would use them is to help the crew and everyone involved in the making of the movie to know the base storyline of the movie. The reason why a storyline is a vital part of the pre-production process is that everything can be made and based around the storyline, this shall help with the storyboards. Important as it describes Tony’s personality within the movie This is important to have in the storyline as it tells the crew what he does as well as the company he’s made and what they make Tells us his partner’s This describes how the Iron Man was made and why it was needed Describes how the story goes on and how he must use the suit to defeat his enemy
