3. Programmes Used
iMovie Camtasia
- iMovie was the programme which I - For some of the green screen parts
chose to edit all of our main video to our video, iMovie was not able to
footage on. The programme is a cut out the required section that we
relatively strong programme and needed, for example the cropping
produces high standard videos when tool on iMovie only allows you to
used to its strengths. crop to the shape of the clip, where
as using Camtasia, we could record
any section of the screen, and then
use it as footage in iMovie once
imported.
4. Green Screen & Special Effects
The above image shows what the original image looked like without any special effects or editing. As you can see,
compared to the bottom image there is a big difference between the light and how much the figure stands out. This was
essential when using the green screen as when initially planning the video, I had the idea to use some footage of the
streets in London which made the footage of my actor not stand out as much as when the effects were in place. These
images also show how I used the green screen to cut out my actor and place him in front of various images/other
videos which, in the end, was a brick wall.
5. Green Screen & Special Effects
Here is another picture which shows the clear contrast in which the
effects have positively changed my artists appearance.
6. Adding Music
Adding music was an essential part of the music video creation process, as a high quality
version of our song was needed. To get the song, I contacted the original artist, Arvee,
who sent me a download link which allowed me to import it into iTunes. Once in iTunes I
then dragged the song into iMovie which then provided a guideline for adding which clips
when. This made the process of lip-syncing easy as instead of adding the music after the
clips were in place, I synced the clips with the music as I went along.
7. Issues and Solutions
Cropping my clips in the right shape whilst maintaining quality was not possible
whilst using iMovie, as shown below, the cropping tool restricts users to only
the same shape as the clip which was a landscape rectangle. I, however,
wanted a portrait rectangle which was not possible, so I began looking into
alternative methods which would solve this issue.
8. I had used a programme called Camtasia before which I was comfortable with using
which would allow me to select a particular part of the computer screen and record it, in
any shape or size. As shown in the image below this enabled me to cut out and video our
actors whole body, rather than having to go by the restrictions of iMovie and use a mid-
shot. To do this, I used the Camtasia recording software and recorded whilst playing the
clip on iMovie in full screen, which enabled me to as well as choose a selection shape
and size of my own, also maintain the quality of the recording. Once I had recorded the
selection, I saved the file and then imported it into iMovie as a new clip.
