convey or heighten
meaning.

5. lINEAR
•Linear is a technique where the narrative
is sequential or in chronological order.
Example:
The Diary of Anne Frank
Fairytales or Fables

6. NON-
lINEAR
•Opposite to linear plot, the narrative
in non-linear plot does not follow the
beginning-middle-end sequence
making it more complex. In non-
linear plot, the composer often use
multiple flashbacks or reversed
chronological order to make the story
more interesting and beautiful.

8. IMAGERY
•Imagery is language that evokes
one of the five senses. It uses
vivid pictures created by words
so that readers can visualize
character/s or setting clearly.

9. Example:
“Josephine paused outside her
front door as the sky growled in
the distance. The perfume of rain
and hot tarmac serenaded her.
She enjoyed it for a moment,
before dashing back inside to
grab her umbrella.”

10. Example:
The scent of dust. The dry air-
conditioner. And a spectacular
performance. But instead of a colorful tune
and melody coming from the keyboard,
everything seems to be in monotone. And
as the performance gets deeper, the more
the audience felt the monotonous and blank
emotion coming from the keyboard and the
performer; like a black hole sucking

•Symbolism is a technique used
when some things are not to be
taken literally. It can be a
person, object, events or actions
that have a deeper meaning in
context. It is commonly used in
Poetry.

• In the poem “The Raven” by
Edgar Allan Poe, the black
bird stands for death and
loss.
• The poem How Do I Love
Thee also uses symbolisms in
every paragraph.
