We need to change how we talk to the business. Here’s my top 10.
1. Advertise our standards for software and hardware
2. Inform on IT expectations including what we will not allow
3. Know what the business can afford to spend
4. Regularly respond to the specific questions of junior staff
5. Regularly respond to the specific questions of senior staff
6. Broadly know what the business wants and needs from IT
7. Engage with finance and budget approvers
8. Deliver the basics quickly and quietly and take risk
9. Explain what we are working on in the short term
10. Stop selling our processes and tools and long term goals
