Presentation: Climate Technology Transfer supported through Linked Data A Proof of Concept for The Climate Technology Centre and Network (CTCN) - by Eelco Kruizinga (DNV GL) and Martin Kaltenböck (SWC) at the Linked Data Netherlands Conference on 29 September 2015 in Hilversum, NL.
We have four business areas and two Independent Business Units: Software and Marine Cybernetics. They serve the maritime, oil and gas and energy industries.
Goals for our strategic research
Acquire new knowledge and competence,
To develop new services to create value for DNV and our customers,
To enhance DNV GL’s recognition as a technology leader in selected areas.
R&I’s work is planned at the corporate level and fully complements DNV’ GLs business plans.
Each steering committee has developed a position paper describing DNVs position compared to our competitors within the specific technical core discipline, ambitions for further development, and what we need to do to be perceived as technology leaders by our customers.

Start page when starting the CTCN Matchmaking Assistant PoC on the internet. Showing a short description what the system is all about, partner logos and menu to navigate to the 2 User Interfaces (UIs).

Upload a document and receive all relevant knowledge objects out of the CTCN Matchmaking Repository (the Climate Tagger Content)
Note that suggested organizations are displayed based on ranking
Here we have Organizations that have expertise matching the request based on the expert vetted thesaurus finding matching taxonomy between the request and the organization’s profiles (based on the documentation input to the system)
Concepts are from the expert vetted thesaurus showing the top concepts based on scoring, there are many more concepts but for the PoC a threshold has been set to display very high scoring concepts only
Terms are free terms not yet in the expert vetted thesaurus but showing up a lot in the text, therefore highlighted so not missed
Locations are based on the geo-tagging thesaurus integrated into the backend, highlighting the geographical concepts in the request
Recommender Interface – TAB 1: after selection or upload of a problem statement document . User receives recommendations for A) Organisations B) Concepts (from Thesaurus) C) Terms (words often used but NOT in Thesaurus) and Locations (relevant geo information of the document).

The CTCN Matchmaking Assistant contains
Recommender User Interface which is implemented as follows:
PROBLEM Statements and SOLUTION Documents (consortium and network partners) are analyzed and matched regarding Technologies and Geographic Information;
AND the SOLUTION documents are additionally classified regarding the ORGANISATION (= consortium partner or network partner) to enable the assignment / Matchmaking of a PROBLEM to a concrete ORGANISATION.
Recommender Interface – TAB 2 – Consortium Partner documents: gives the list of identified documents available in the system of CTCN consortium partners. Url: https://ctcn-web.poolparty.biz/recommender
Here, the CTM can look at the exact documents provided by the consortium partners that brought them forward as matches
Recommender Interface – TAB 3 – Networking Partner documents: gives the list of identified documents available in the system of CTCN networking partners. Url: https://ctcn-web.poolparty.biz/recommender
Here, the CTM can look at the exact documents provided by the network partners that brought them forward as matches
Recommender Interface – TAB 4 – Relevant Initiatives: gives the list of identified documents available in the system of additional climate technology resources. Url: https://ctcn-web.poolparty.biz/recommender
Here, all the content curated by CTCN for this system is analyzed and similar or related content based on that pool of content, in relation to the request for technical assitance itself, the fingerprint, displays. This can be project output documenation, solutions, related initiatives, it is up to CTCN which case studies or content is displayed here.
Search User Interface which is implemented a follows:
PROBLEM and SOLUTION documents analyzed and concept-tagged with their according TECHNOLOGIES & ORGANIZATIONS & GEOGRAPHIC SCOPE;
different filter possibilities - ORGANIZATION type (consortium partner or network partner), TECHNOLOGIES, GEOGRAPHIC SCOPE;
AND additional domain-specific search documents have been used to show scalability and benefit of the system
Facetted search system on all knowledge objects available in the CTCN Matchmaking Repository (the Climate Tagger Content Pool)
Search Interface: provides a facetted search interfaced that is based on concepts from the Thesaurus – this means that a user can either start search concepts by starting to type word(s) into the search field and / or drill down the search results by selecting from the right hand side filters = facets. Facets implemented for this PoC are: Organisations, Climate Glossary, Climate Technology, Energy Efficiency, Renewable Energy and Geographic Scope. Data used is A) CTCN organisation documents that has been provided plus additional climate related documents collected. Url: https://ctcn-web.poolparty.biz/search

CTCN adaptation and mitigation sectors have been added including the detail within each – to be expanded in future with children covering technology types and relations to solutions
CTCN cross-cutting approaches have been added including the detail of filters under each as filters
The dark green top level concepts are what show up in the use case #2 – facteted search, while the lighter green children do not but are underneath these top level concepts as per this snap shot
Consortium and network partners have been added including children concepts which are the main contact person for each organization
REEEP read all consortium and network partner documentation and related concepts from the text to the consortium partners for future inclusion of relations in the algorithm and also to show the different levels of depth about partners
By looking at the related concepts on the right hand side you can see the key concepts / information that AIT has provided to CTCN, compared to that of GIZ in the next slide this shows the different levels of depth of information in the text provided by consortium partners which we will want to encourage is increased in the future
You can see, GIZ has provided a lot more context about their work based on the related concepts found in the text of their partner documentation to the right; this is important to keep in mind for the limitations of the PoC but there is nothing that says we cannot improve the content available substantially in future, in fact this provides incentive
