Marlabs – Case Study
21. Client Leading insurance group (the state's largest writer of Workers' Compensation and Personal Auto Insurance)
Need Implementing Guidewire (PolicyCenter & BillingCenter) as part of 5 year initiative.
Marlabs Solution Analyzed current data model and identified custom changes to the model based on user requirements.
Analyzed the current user interface and enhanced it to meet business needs.
Designed and developed the interface to integrate BillingCenter and PolicyCenter as well as BillingCenter
to other applications.
Created user stories for each of the business requirements
Built/extended the design to accommodate changes to the base system
Identified individual components of the user story and broke it down into child stories
Designed entity models to represent the business components
Designed and implemented business rules for various business entities. Example: Account, Policy etc.
Implemented plug-ins provided in the base system based on the business requirement
Designed and developed workflow process to initiate time-bound actions
Developed unit test cases along with the development of each use case
Validated functional implementation of each feature against requirements specified for that feature as
well as to validate the entire system for the end-to-end process.
Thoroughly verified correctness of configuration and tested all interfaces for proper data communication
and processing
Performed functional testing of reports and document management
Completed Workers’ Comp and started Personal Auto. Worked closely with Guidewire. Integrated
Guidewire with in-house rating, customer web interface for quotes and policies, and with Peoplesoft for
AP and AR. Policies maintained in the mainframe legacy system for some time.
Conducted daily discussions/scrum meetings to track daily developments and identify and resolve any
road blocks.
Benefits Successfully rolled out different LOB’s into new platform.
Technology
Platform

22. Client Group of property and casualty insurance companies
Need Implement new HP Exstream applications by converting old and existing documents that are currently
generated through Documerg or other legacy applications.
Marlabs Solution Conducted requirements analysis phase to understand and gather information from all different types
of focus groups and users. Analyzed existing workflows and tasks performed by users to design
interactive documents for effective usability.
Created standards and consolidated specifications document templates based on the most common
scenarios to reduce processing time and generate documents faster.
Created workflows for implementing new Exstream applications.
Converted raw data into usable XML files and schema. These XML files are then consumed by HP
Exstream to generate different types of documents like PDF, TIFF, Postscript and live(DLF)
Created new live interactive documents to replace the current Letter system using HP Exstream design
and production 8.0, HP Exstream Live 3.0. These live documents are capable of taking user input and
upon submission delivering the documents to multiple output channels like Imaging/Archival,
Production printers, Local print (if user needs to print locally), hand off documents to be attached to
email and hand off information for creation of task flows and automated follow-ups.
This new system is a web application that allows the user to select any type of document, generate it and
work on it and submit it for processing to multiple output channels. This is a one to one real time
document processing.
Benefits Created applications that are easy to maintain and troubleshoot for the application owners team who
oversee the maintenance after implementation.
Duly trained application owner team developers who will be supporting the applications after
implementation.
Multiple document outputs - System generates document output types like PDF, TIFF, Postscript &
DLF(Live document).

23. Client A global specialty provider of insurance and reinsurance
Need Client had an existing data warehouse and associated BI and reporting system across multiple LOBs
(Lines of Business)/ products and wanted help with enhancing existing reports, creation of new complex
reports.
The primary goal of this project was to provide the underwriting business with improved operational
reports that have been standardized as much as possible across all Professional Liability Lines of
Business
Marlabs Solution Marlabs provided project development and support services for the entire Data Warehouse
lifecycle i.e. Requirement Analysis, Design, Development, Unit Testing, QA Support and UAT
Support for the below business line reports.
1. Business Bound Reports – to capture bound policies details
2. Hit Ratio Reports – to capture the hit ratio w.r.t submissions, quotes, declines as well as aggregated
GWS.
3. Pipeline Reports – to capture In-Progress and renewal accounts
4. Policy Issuance Reports – to track all date related fields for bound policies
5. Administrative Reports – to help managers to check outstanding issues on bound accounts
6. Renewal Analysis Reports – to capture the rate at which the business is able to retain expired policies
7. Prospect Reports – to provide details of any prospective client
Benefits Standardized reporting has raised efficiency of reporting across all Master Lines of Business as well as in
aggregating reporting required for upstream Management Information Systems.
Standardized data definitions across the various Professional Liability lines of business will additionally
increase comparability of underwriting reporting overall.
Technology
Platform
SQL Server, SSIS, SSRS, SSAS

24. Client A global specialty provider of insurance and reinsurance
Need Client had an existing data warehouse and associated BI and reporting system across multiple LOB
(Lines of Business)/ products and wanted help with enhancing existing reports, creation of new complex
reports.
The primary goal of this project was to improve the Cube processing performance.
Marlabs Solution Marlabs supported the client in improving cube processing performance. The existing cube took around
10.5 hours to process . Consequently reports were being refreshed on a monthly basis whereas the
business would have liked to have them on a daily basis. After performing optimization exercises the cube
build time was reduced to 2-3 hours i.e. an improvement of more than 300%.
Cube partitions on measures/facts: Partitions on measures help efficiently process fact data and
aggregations using multiple threads. By partitioning cube measures on the time and data source
processing time was reduced.
Physical dimension tables: The existing cube structure was designed to process dimensions from a
database view; with approximately 100 million records in the view. Cube dimension processing took
approximately 5 hours 30mins. With physical preprocessed dimension tables (an ETL package to
process the physical dimension) it took approx. 60 minutes.
Usage based optimization: Usage based optimization helped to build aggregations on partitions based
on the history of queries sent to cubes.
Incremental processing: Processing only the most recent partition. Daily processing of the
current/recent partitions and monthly processing of history partitions.
Benefits Faster and improved decision-making.
Technology
Platform
SQL Server DB, SSIS, SSRS, SSASlien
