- Directly, public bodies – LAs, CGD, National Parks, Police etc. etc. Private sector – data suppliers – don’t have to comply but it would be best practice too especially as I think, public bodies will require at least, some metadata. Software & System suppliers – there will need to be a way of creating and maintaining metadata through the supply of tools and these will be needed in the systems used to manage data – customers will demand it!
- Familiarize yourself with the Directive, IRs & timescales Use the headings in Annex 1 to categorize your data to see where your priorities should be focused – chances are that over 50% of your data will fit into this first phase. Look at what it means to you (what will the impact be – do an impact assessment), plan what you need to do, when you need to do it by, what resources you need to achieve it, create a business plan if needs be but have a strategy to deal with it.
