Communication
In all my employment roles, I have been required to communicate effectively at all levels within the
organisation, from user to director; teacher and headmaster. I’m confident in my ability to communicate
with customers and third parties at all levels; a quality I feel sets me apart from many. I am meticulous

more detail is required.
Technical/Problem Solving
I take a logical, common sense approach to problems and I can draw on my experience and solid
technical knowledge to identify a resolution. I have a flair for analysis and diagnosis, which draws from
my life experience as well as from my career thus far. Where problems persist I feel it important to
explore ideas with colleagues, and to share and develop ideas as well as increase my knowledge using
research from available sources.
Time Management & Organisational Skills
I have always worked in busy environments and on a strict timescale where there has been many tasks
to complete at any one time. This has forced me to develop my methods in prioritising and organising
my workload; I believe this to be of paramount importance in an IT support environment where there
are frequent and varying issues to be resolved in a timely fashion.

Work Experience
Feb 2015 to date
Position: Infrastructure Tools Engineer - Capita IT Services
I currently work for Capita as a member of the Infrastructure Tools team, which is part of Capita's
Infrastructure IT team (Service Operations). The focus is supporting deployment and monitoring
technologies such as Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM), System Center
Operations Manager (SCOM), the SolarWinds product suite, CA Nimsoft, and others, for large contracts
such as Sheffield County Council, Transport for London, and several London Borough Councils.
Supporting the above requires a broad section of ICT skills to allow us to implement, troubleshoot, and
maintain these enterprise technologies that sit at the heart of complex networks in these environments.
Curriculum Vitae 2016
November 2012 to Feb 2015
Position: IT Network Technician – Taunton School
My current role demands a good knowledge of the ICT systems across the whole site; the
locations of the network and associated devices, and the systems that are hosted by the many
server instances and desktop computers. I’ve also spent considerable personal time developing
my knowledge various systems managed by the ICT department listed below, as well as their
range of Apple devices such as iPhones, iPads and OSX desktops, so combined with previous
experience in this area, I can offer a good level of support in this area too.
- One of the main technologies I’m passionate about and one that I’m actively currently leading
for the school is System Centre Configuration Manager 2012 (SCCM). This complex
technology has also become a major part of my everyday role here, and I regularly leverage it
to deploy operating systems and software, system updates and Endpoint Protection, changes
to endpoints, monitoring our environment and much more. In doing so I’ve been able to be
able to draw on my past experience [At Viridor Waste Management] and training whilst at the
same time researching and ‘labbing’ allows me to keep up to date and hands-on with this
technology.
- SQL Server 2008/2012- I am the SQL Database Administrator for the school and this has
become another one of my interests and passions. I’ve completed Microsoft’s Administering
SQL server 2012 (70-462) course using self-study and many hours of learning the field in a lab
environment. In the past year I’ve configured a combination maintenance plans and SQL jobs
in our production environment for 5 SQL instances and over 70 databases to include database
backups, index maintenance, stats updates and more. This ensures that the (clustered) SQL
environment is both backed up to reflect RPO/RTO defined by the business and functioning
optimally and efficiently. Agent tasks for automation of tasks behind maintenance plans were
setup leveraging T-SQL.
- I’ve recently completed an M20410/M20411T Tailored Server 2012 course and having worked
closely with this version and several previous versions over the years I consider myself
proficient in the use, configuration, and maintenance of Windows Server.
- I’ve spent considerable time studying new technologies including Cisco switches and routers. I
consider myself to be proficient in Cisco iOS to a good level: check running configurations,
back them up, and perform basic V-LAN configurations. This period of self-study has greatly
helped my understanding of the methods in which the technologies interact at the various tiers
of the seven layer model.
- Network monitoring- we utilise SolarWinds and Microsoft SCOM alongside SCCM for
monitoring our network resources.
June to November 2012
Position: ICT & Data Manager – Stanchester Academy
In this role I had responsibility for line managing staff, management of the network and attending weekly
Senior Leadership meetings, advising SLT on the cost, implementation and requirements for ICT
developments, managing the MIS system (SIMS) and for promotion and development of the school’s
e-learning platform. I had to ensure budgets were managed in a way that ensured ICT systems were
maintained and up to date, licencing requirements were met, and budget constraints were factored in
during the decision-making processes.
June 2010 to June 2012
Position: ICT Desktop Analyst – Viridor
This role involved a range of tasks from 3rd line desktop support, through to software testing &
deployment using various Enterprise technologies including SCCM 2007. Also, management of OS
Curriculum Vitae 2016
system updates and patching, patch management using UAT and DEV environments, (again
leveraging SCCM 2007 to achieve this). DCM baselines were configured to ensure that endpoints were
compliant with strict security rules defined by the company’s security requirements. Group Policy,
Active Directory, Microsoft Exchange, management and configuration of the Blackberry Enterprise
Server® and the policy set that applies to the Blackberry handsets, McAfee Endpoint Encryption and
Antivirus (all mobile devices, including Blackberry handsets and laptops had to be encrypted to protect
against theft of data in the case of physical loss of the hardware).
Calls were elevated via an automated helpdesk system from the IT service desk and escalated to the
desktop team, and included a combination calls that could or should not be rectified by either the service
desk members, or the regional engineers located at specific locations throughout the country.
Working in accordance to the ITIL® framework, I was part of a team which included an array of IT
professionals, from project managers, business analysts, engineers, security specialists,
administrators, managers and more; who worked together to provide a high-tech, fit for purpose service
that was forward thinking and efficient, as well as being sensitive to the requirements of the users and
the business alike.
I also was involved in projects involving the researching of enterprise tools and technologies deemed
to be of benefit to the business via the internal project managers. The latest large project the desktop
team had to undertake is the deployment of the Windows 7 operating system to all clients across the
network which included in excess of 1500 desktop computers across a variety of sites from offices to
landfill, PowerStation’s and so on; all available via connections on a variety of bandwidths (some sites
only had a 2mbps line). During my time at Viridor I undertook an MCITP in Windows 7 Deployment
(Enterprise Desktop Administrator).
June 2009 to June 2010
Position: Contract IT Engineer for IBM (Southwest One)
My role as a contractor at South West One was to act as the service provider. To deliver the service, I
trained teachers on a one-to-one basis and also during the regular courses and training days provided
by the department.
The role also included maintaining and troubleshooting a range of IT from laptops (Dell, HP, Lenovo,
Toshiba, Sony and more) to desktops of various ages, makes and specifications to LAN networks and
related equipment across a range of educational and corporate sites throughout Somerset. This was
mainly site-based work but would include a fair amount of remote work, particularly during the school
holidays. Calls were managed though the Assyst helpdesk system
The role entailed liaison with users at various levels of ability and roles from teachers, managers and
other educational staff to corporate users and management. The various types of tasks assigned to me
took me to any one of these sites from day to day, therefore the environment was constantly changing
as were the tasks I was required to carry out. Much of the work entailed organised site visits where a
specific and strict time window is allocated.
Out of term time we would spend time working on projects or helpdesk/remote support duties. I was
also involved on a regular basis with site server installations, and assisting heads and managers in
decisions on hardware upgrades, such as laptops PC’s and network components.
August 2008 to June 2009 – Taunton School
Position: IT Network Technician
The role involved a wide variety of tasks with the main focus being to manage the IT in two specific
areas of the school. In doing this I was expected to ensure the smooth-running of all the IT which
included a range of different types of thin and fat station desktops, (a range of makes and models from
iGel, HP, Dell, Apple and more) printing, IWB’s, and all related network connectivity. It was a varied
environment to work in; including a suite of Apple Mac computers for music technology and CAD. In the
first instance I was asked to carry out an audit of all the machines to ascertain the specifications, age
and performance of the various machines and quantify what was required to optimise the performance
Curriculum Vitae 2016
of the network as a whole and to ensure the best possible desktop experience for the users. On doing
this I set about upgrading, updating, reconfiguring the devices which involved a range of work from
DIMM upgrades to installation and configuration of the Citrix XenApp Plugin’s and ICA Clients (they use
Citrix technology for the streaming of hosted applications to user desktops, remote access and
virtualisation).
January 2005 to August 2008 – Somerset County Council
Position: IT Engineer
This role was intrinsically similar the role later at the same place for Southwest One and was with
Somerset County Council; before much of the traded accounts (including IT) were merged with IBM in
a joint venture. Time was allocated to training designated users within Educational Establishments (IT
co-ordinators) on how to maintain and manage their own IT Networks and data storage. Engineers were
assigned on a more permanent basis to groups of sites in specific areas. This allowed engineers to
develop good working relationships with the Heads and IT staff on the sites and manage their IT more
efficiently. This role also included a percentage of remote user support and also support of local
corporate sites.
September 2004 to January 2005 – Hewlett Packard CDS (based at Augusta Westland Yeovil)
Position: Desktop Support Engineer (2nd Line)
As a member of the Application Support Team I would phone users to help them resolve their desktop
PC and printing issues. This would involve guiding them through the problem to resolution or acquiring
as much information as possible and reassigning the call to a team whose remit more closely matched
the problem. Calls were managed using a helpdesk system where the calls were assigned to us as
second-line support personnel. The role also included roaming support where necessary, across
Augusta’s large site.
Prior to taking my IT degree:
September to November 2000 – Sydney 2000 Olympics
Position: Platform Manager (Transport)
July to September 2000 – Data Input Clerk, Sydney Australia
June to July 2000 – Manual Worker, Rolins Farms, Sunshine Coast, Australia
November 1998 to April 2000 – Home Improvements Installer, County Window Systems Ltd.
April 1996 to November 1998 – Mechanic, Grants of Wellington (BMW)
Personal Interests
I enjoy running and cycling, and I ride most weekends with Somerset Road Club. I’m always looking to
go a bit further and take on new physical challenges. In the past couple of years, I’ve taken part in
events like ‘Tough Mudder’, and more recently, some cycling sportives up to just over 100miles. I am a
keen DIY’er with a fair bit of experience in the building trades (in a previous life!) and I enjoy social
activities including nights out to restaurants, bars, theatre and so on, albeit on rare occasions since I
have two young children! To relax I enjoy listening to and writing music both using software and the
guitar. I am an avid reader, and enjoy a range of writing styles from authors ranging from Louise de
Bernieres though to James Patterson.
Additional Information
- I have held a clean driving licence for past 24 years

  • 3. Curriculum Vitae 2016 November 2012 to Feb 2015 Position: IT Network Technician – Taunton School My current role demands a good knowledge of the ICT systems across the whole site; the locations of the network and associated devices, and the systems that are hosted by the many server instances and desktop computers. I’ve also spent considerable personal time developing my knowledge various systems managed by the ICT department listed below, as well as their range of Apple devices such as iPhones, iPads and OSX desktops, so combined with previous experience in this area, I can offer a good level of support in this area too. - One of the main technologies I’m passionate about and one that I’m actively currently leading for the school is System Centre Configuration Manager 2012 (SCCM). This complex technology has also become a major part of my everyday role here, and I regularly leverage it to deploy operating systems and software, system updates and Endpoint Protection, changes to endpoints, monitoring our environment and much more. In doing so I’ve been able to be able to draw on my past experience [At Viridor Waste Management] and training whilst at the same time researching and ‘labbing’ allows me to keep up to date and hands-on with this technology. - SQL Server 2008/2012- I am the SQL Database Administrator for the school and this has become another one of my interests and passions. I’ve completed Microsoft’s Administering SQL server 2012 (70-462) course using self-study and many hours of learning the field in a lab environment. In the past year I’ve configured a combination maintenance plans and SQL jobs in our production environment for 5 SQL instances and over 70 databases to include database backups, index maintenance, stats updates and more. This ensures that the (clustered) SQL environment is both backed up to reflect RPO/RTO defined by the business and functioning optimally and efficiently. Agent tasks for automation of tasks behind maintenance plans were setup leveraging T-SQL. - I’ve recently completed an M20410/M20411T Tailored Server 2012 course and having worked closely with this version and several previous versions over the years I consider myself proficient in the use, configuration, and maintenance of Windows Server. - I’ve spent considerable time studying new technologies including Cisco switches and routers. I consider myself to be proficient in Cisco iOS to a good level: check running configurations, back them up, and perform basic V-LAN configurations. This period of self-study has greatly helped my understanding of the methods in which the technologies interact at the various tiers of the seven layer model. - Network monitoring- we utilise SolarWinds and Microsoft SCOM alongside SCCM for monitoring our network resources. June to November 2012 Position: ICT & Data Manager – Stanchester Academy In this role I had responsibility for line managing staff, management of the network and attending weekly Senior Leadership meetings, advising SLT on the cost, implementation and requirements for ICT developments, managing the MIS system (SIMS) and for promotion and development of the school’s e-learning platform. I had to ensure budgets were managed in a way that ensured ICT systems were maintained and up to date, licencing requirements were met, and budget constraints were factored in during the decision-making processes. June 2010 to June 2012 Position: ICT Desktop Analyst – Viridor This role involved a range of tasks from 3rd line desktop support, through to software testing & deployment using various Enterprise technologies including SCCM 2007. Also, management of OS

DCM baselines were configured to ensure that endpoints were compliant with strict security rules defined by the company’s security requirements. Group Policy, Active Directory, Microsoft Exchange, management and configuration of the Blackberry Enterprise Server® and the policy set that applies to the Blackberry handsets, McAfee Endpoint Encryption and Antivirus (all mobile devices, including Blackberry handsets and laptops had to be encrypted to protect against theft of data in the case of physical loss of the hardware). Calls were elevated via an automated helpdesk system from the IT service desk and escalated to the desktop team, and included a combination calls that could or should not be rectified by either the service desk members, or the regional engineers located at specific locations throughout the country. Working in accordance to the ITIL® framework, I was part of a team which included an array of IT professionals, from project managers, business analysts, engineers, security specialists, administrators, managers and more; who worked together to provide a high-tech, fit for purpose service that was forward thinking and efficient, as well as being sensitive to the requirements of the users and the business alike. I also was involved in projects involving the researching of enterprise tools and technologies deemed to be of benefit to the business via the internal project managers. The latest large project the desktop team had to undertake is the deployment of the Windows 7 operating system to all clients across the network which included in excess of 1500 desktop computers across a variety of sites from offices to landfill, PowerStation’s and so on; all available via connections on a variety of bandwidths (some sites only had a 2mbps line). During my time at Viridor I undertook an MCITP in Windows 7 Deployment (Enterprise Desktop Administrator). June 2009 to June 2010 Position: Contract IT Engineer for IBM (Southwest One) My role as a contractor at South West One was to act as the service provider. To deliver the service, I trained teachers on a one-to-one basis and also during the regular courses and training days provided by the department. The role also included maintaining and troubleshooting a range of IT from laptops (Dell, HP, Lenovo, Toshiba, Sony and more) to desktops of various ages, makes and specifications to LAN networks and related equipment across a range of educational and corporate sites throughout Somerset. This was mainly site-based work but would include a fair amount of remote work, particularly during the school holidays. Calls were managed though the Assyst helpdesk system The role entailed liaison with users at various levels of ability and roles from teachers, managers and other educational staff to corporate users and management. The various types of tasks assigned to me took me to any one of these sites from day to day, therefore the environment was constantly changing as were the tasks I was required to carry out. Much of the work entailed organised site visits where a specific and strict time window is allocated. Out of term time we would spend time working on projects or helpdesk/remote support duties. I was also involved on a regular basis with site server installations, and assisting heads and managers in decisions on hardware upgrades, such as laptops PC’s and network components. August 2008 to June 2009 – Taunton School Position: IT Network Technician The role involved a wide variety of tasks with the main focus being to manage the IT in two specific areas of the school. In doing this I was expected to ensure the smooth-running of all the IT which included a range of different types of thin and fat station desktops, (a range of makes and models from iGel, HP, Dell, Apple and more) printing, IWB’s, and all related network connectivity. It was a varied environment to work in; including a suite of Apple Mac computers for music technology and CAD. In the first instance I was asked to carry out an audit of all the machines to ascertain the specifications, age and performance of the various machines and quantify what was required to optimise the performance

Time was allocated to training designated users within Educational Establishments (IT co-ordinators) on how to maintain and manage their own IT Networks and data storage. Engineers were assigned on a more permanent basis to groups of sites in specific areas. This allowed engineers to develop good working relationships with the Heads and IT staff on the sites and manage their IT more efficiently. This role also included a percentage of remote user support and also support of local corporate sites. September 2004 to January 2005 – Hewlett Packard CDS (based at Augusta Westland Yeovil) Position: Desktop Support Engineer (2nd Line) As a member of the Application Support Team I would phone users to help them resolve their desktop PC and printing issues. This would involve guiding them through the problem to resolution or acquiring as much information as possible and reassigning the call to a team whose remit more closely matched the problem. Calls were managed using a helpdesk system where the calls were assigned to us as second-line support personnel. The role also included roaming support where necessary, across Augusta’s large site. Prior to taking my IT degree: September to November 2000 – Sydney 2000 Olympics Position: Platform Manager (Transport) July to September 2000 – Data Input Clerk, Sydney Australia June to July 2000 – Manual Worker, Rolins Farms, Sunshine Coast, Australia November 1998 to April 2000 – Home Improvements Installer, County Window Systems Ltd. April 1996 to November 1998 – Mechanic, Grants of Wellington (BMW) Personal Interests I enjoy running and cycling, and I ride most weekends with Somerset Road Club. In the past couple of years, I’ve taken part in events like ‘Tough Mudder’, and more recently, some cycling sportives up to just over 100miles. I am a keen DIY’er with a fair bit of experience in the building trades (in a previous life!) and I enjoy social activities including nights out to restaurants, bars, theatre and so on, albeit on rare occasions since I have two young children! To relax I enjoy listening to and writing music both using software and the guitar. I am an avid reader, and enjoy a range of writing styles from authors ranging from Louise de Bernieres though to James Patterson.
