2. FORMATION OF EXIM BANK
An act of parliament set up the Export-Import
Bank of India in September 1981. it
commenced its operation from March 1982.
Sri R.C. Shah, a seasoned banker, with vast
commercial and international banking
experience, was the first Chairman and
Managing Director of EXIM bank during 1982
to Jan 1985.

• The bank’s functions are segmented into
several operating groups namely-
– Corporate Banking Group
– Project Finance/ Trade Finance Group
– Small and medium Enterprise
– Export Service Group
– Export Marketing Services Bank
– Support Services Group

• Corporate Banking group: this group handles a
variety of financing programmes for Export
oriented Units (EOUs), Importers, and overseas
investment by Indian companies.
• Project Finance/ Trade Finance Group: this group handles
the entire range of export credit servicers such as
supplier’s credit, pre-shipment Agri-Bussiness Group, to
spearhead the initiative to promote and support Agri-
exports. The Group handles projects and export
transactions in the agricultural sector for financing.

• Export services group: this group offers variety
of advisory and value-added information
services aimed at investment promotion.
• Export Marketing Services Bank: this group
offers assistance to Indian companies, to
enable them establish their products in
overseas markets.
