On 18th August 2011 Malthouse hosted a Data Energy Services network meeting and this presentation was given detailing the environmental activities Malthouse Engineering is involved in.

4. Rainwater Harvesting We have been using our large roof surface to collect all rainwater landing on it In total we harvest over 336000 litres per year The system only cost £400 to set up It is being rolled out to our other sites.
6. Lighting Not only is there a cost to the bulbs but there is a cost implication in the changing of the bulbs We now seek to utilise low level lighting Use reflective surfaces to reflect heat and light
7. Racking system for offcuts Its very important that we are able to utilise all of a plate Off cuts are stored and used whenever a job will fit This reduces the need to procure new plate We are currently working on a project to create racking to allow us to better organise and use offcuts
8. Video Conferencing Supporter of video conferencing using software such as Oovoo Enabled better communication More engagement with remote staff Saves on travel costs and pollution
9. Dropbox/Paper Started using online file storage software Saving estimated 1600 pieces of paper Improving communications £3000 per year saved on paper, printing and cost of confidential disposal Recycle 26.4 cu. m. p.a.of paper
15. Cundey Systems Recently formed Cundey Systems Ltd. Working in forestry machinery Currently producing Peelers/Pointers/Sawbenches Want to move into renewable energy, specifically wood fuel biomass
16. Other Water heater on shop floor changed to a more economical heater saving and estimated £35 per month in water/electricity We have planted a number of tress around the site to support local wildlife and to reduce the noise impact of the factory
