Sweet Potato have during the
past years made an entry into the
European kitchen. Food shows on
TV, and food magazines have
focused on health advantages to
using sweet potato instead of
traditional potato.
This has resulted in a strong increase in
sales of the product also as a processed
product, in different product variations as
frozen goods. UK have so far the most
developed market both in retail and
foodservice. But a lot of countries report
about increasing sales.

5. Market
For all suppliers, the challenge is
to be able to provide what the
market wants of volumes.
Retail chains prefer to also have
their own Private Label, but
main suppliers don’t want to
make. They want to use their
own brand.
In Poland some companies offers
repack of products from
Vietnam, China, Portugal and
Spain, to access the PL market.
This is mainly low quality sweet
potatoes.

8. Plant Project in Uganda
• Located in area with optimal conditions for
cultivating sweet potatoes.
• Close to main roads for heavy transport/logistic.
• Factory have to be certified with BRC and HACCP,
with certificates.
9. Production Plant
Processing and storage area need to be
3000 square meter.
Individual and separate sections for sweet
potatoes to be washed, sorted, peeled,
cut, blanched, dried, coated, pre-fried in
vegetable oil, quick frozen and packed.
Parallel area for processing and packaging of
vegetables
Storage areas for cold and frozen ready

Area for office, wardrobe etc.

Potatoes, for the European market it is
needed to be:

• Deep Orange

12. Sweet Potato Chips
The market for Sweet potato chips is
not developed in Europe
But we will probably soon get sweet
potato chips in the European market, at
the same time it gives this project the
opportunity to consider the possibility
of also be able to produce this at the
same plant. Here it will be possible to
use the kind of sweet potato that is
already grown in Uganda.
