Plans for 2023? Album? Mixtape?
I’ve been doing music my whole life it feels , I was a hockey payer though and that came first than I
got in some legal trouble and it was taken always from me. I started rapping shortly after that and
started taking it seriously in about 2018.
My plans for 2023 is to get back that consistency that I had going into the pandemic with
and drop a bunch of singles and projects I currently have two on shelf already and I’m
sure they’ll be more before years end so will see . I just want to have fun again that what
creating art is all about to me

Since day one, the community has pushed us to curate the most premium cannabis in the country. We’re not
growers, we’re a brand house. We are consistently working with our award-winning grower and breeder
partners to hunt and create the most interesting, unique, and potent cannabis strains in Canada.
Born in the Dark
Anonymous and hidden, Ghost Drops started in a nondescript warehouse with one ambition: to shine a
light on the most talented peopleworkingin the darkest corners of the industry.
The Ghost was always something experienced but not seen— discreetly dropping the most interesting and
innovative cannabis products to the most discerningconsumers in the legacy market. Our notoriety grew
and each new strain delivery became known on thestreets as a “Ghost Drop”.
In operation since 2017, we launched into the legal market in Canada in 2021.
If you know, you know. Our legacy strain art was killer. But the viral marketing that made us infamous in the
legacy market isn’t allowed under Canadian cannabis regulations in the legal market. So we’re keeping the
strain art alive in another way – as limited edition NFTs. Digitally, our OG legacy lives on.

Q: How long have you been doing music? And what inspired you?
Q: Where we’re you born? City you live? or rep?
Q: Music plans for 2023? Album? Mixtape?
Q: Who inspires you musically in today hiphop
Q: How was your childhood? Was music a big thing in your family?
Q: Is there a particular artist signed or unsigned that you’d like to work/feature with?
A: “I released my first song in August 2019. Up until that point I had been writing poetry
since I was very young. My oldest brother, who artistically goes by “Pik”, has and is still my
biggest musical inspiration. He was the first person to tell me that rap is like poetry
paired with a beat.“
A: “I was born in Calgary but I moved to Vancouver in 2020. I proudly rep both cities.”
A: “I have big ideas and plans for 2023 including a lot more visuals, collabs, and likely an EP
and/or my first full length album. Since getting sober, I have been working on finding a
balance in my music to also represent myself on a deeper level.”
A: “As mentioned earlier, my oldest brother Pik is my biggest musical inspiration but I love
listening to all genres of music to be inspired. I also like to take from my own experiences
and my everyday life. My fellow artist and good friend YellowBunny also inspires me and
continues to amaze me with all of the obstacles she has overcome. She reminds me that I
can do anything I set my mind to and how healing music truly is.“
A: “I had a great childhood. I have two older brothers and an older sister. I’m close with all of
my family. Music was always a big deal for my brother but not so much with the rest of my
family.”
A: “I’ve always wanted to collab with Snow Tha Product but there are so many amazing
underground artists and mainstream artists that would be a blessing to work with.“

I want people to find confidence,
courage and motivation in my
music.”
Q: Have you experienced any obstacles that you have
had to overcome within the industry?
A: “I think every artist has obstacles they face. I feel
that most female artists, myself included, often get
looked over or considered at best as being “good for a
girl.” I’ve never accepted that as a compliment as I
know that my music as well as many other female
artists’ are highly talented and not just “for a girl.”
Covid was also something that I think all artists had to
navigate with not being able to do shows and trying to
find ways to continue connecting with the world.”
A: “As an openly bisexual female, I
want people to take away the
message to never apolgize for being
who they are. I want people to find
confidence, courage and motivation
in my music. With some of the
newer projects I’ll be releasing, I
hope that people will find some
connection within my lyrics and be
able to relate on a deeper level.”

Q: When your in the booth do you feel pressure? Do you go into your sessions alone or
with a team?
A: ”No, I don’t as I almost always record with Shea Michael and he’s been recording me
since my first single. It’s always a very chill environment. I record alone.“
Q: Do you feel Canadian talent is under looked? Or the eyes are on us?
A: “I feel there is a ton of talent in Canada but I feel like the world sees Toronto as the
primary focus. I have heard top tier talent from basically every part of Canada so I would
love to see more artists receive recognition from all over.”
Q: Is there anyone you’d like to give a shout to?
A:” I’d like to shout out Shea Michael for recording, mixing and mastering all my tracks
making me consistently sound amazing. I’d also like to shou tout my main producers Call
Me G, Evince and Vez. And big love to all of my fans, family and friends who keep me
going. Thank you!“
Q: How did you come up with you name ‘Tinywiings’?
A: ” My bestfriend Amber gave it to me many years ago before I ever released music. It is
actually a video game - “Tiny Wings”. I used it first as my Instagram handle ( “tinywings”
was taken so I added in the second “i” in the wings ) and decided to just keep it for my artist
name.

13 • HIP HOP MAGAZINE
Q: How long have you been doing music? And what inspired you?
I have been doing music for 15+ years. My Dad used to be a DJ back in the day and
always had music playing in our home. I learned a wide range of repertoire at a very
young age. At 12 years old I enrolled into professional singing lessons and was taught
opera music first, as my teacher said "If you can sing opera, you can sing anything!". I
learned opera, music in Italian and Latin. I always lit up when music played and I felt so
strongly for singing that I quit my 12 long year professional figure skating training
because of it.
Q: Where we’re you born? City you live? or rep?
I was born in Canada, my mother is Italian, father is Jamaican. I grew up in Etobicoke
and Brampton. Currently I have been going back and forth from Toronto to Los
Angeles.
Q: Music plans for 2023? What can the people expect? Etc (Album,Mixtape)
I am only focusing on releasing singles at the moment. I don't feel enough love from my
city for a full tape yet, haha. "Problems" my new single, drops March 2nd! So look out
for that.
Q: Who or what inspires you musically?
I love Aaliyah, Snoh Alegra, SZA, Rihanna, Don Toliver, Bad Bunny, KORN &
Rosalia to name a few.
Q: Have you experienced any obstacles that you have had to overcome within the
industry?
Being a woman in this industry is hard as it is, haha.... but I would also say managing
yourself, there's always so much to do!

Q: where can the fans find you

I want them to listen to my voice and hear
the unique raspy, yet smooth tone I

Q: How was your childhood? Was music a big thing in your family?
A: I had an incredible childhood. I cannot remember a time when
there wasn't music around my family. I have a very big family on both
sides so there has always been chaos and so much excitement in my
life. I mentioned my Dad was a DJ back in the day, so we always had
music playing in the house, in my headphones, on vinyl. I love many
genres and times of music.
Q: what do you want the fans to take from your
music? (Youth,day ones, family,the world)
A: I want people to know me as a good person who's
been through some bad shit with people, mainly
relationships. I want them to listen to my voice and

Q: When you're in the booth do you feel pressure? Do you go into your sessions alone or
with a team?
A: I used to feel pressure in the booth whenever working with a new engineer, or someone
who doesn't understand your voice, your tone. But for the past 3 years I have worked with
engineer Rabby Teng and I love working with him. We always have amazing sessions and
walk out feeling great about what we recorded. I usually go in the studio alone or with Bilal
Dawson as of lately. He is super talented and we enjoy writing songs together sometimes
as well.
Q: Is there a particular artist signed or unsigned that you’d like to work/feature with?
A: I'd love to work with Rubi Rose, Ice Spice, Shakira, Bad Bunny, Don Toliver, Lil Uzi,
Rihanna, Timbaland, Missy Elliott, Nicki Minaj. There's so many honestly!
Q: Do you feel Canadian talent is under looked? Or the eyes are on us?
Yes and no. I feel a lot of Canadian artists have really made their mark for others to really
look at us, but also feel there is still a lot of talent that needs their time.
Q: Is there anyone you’d like to give a shout to?
My family, my boyfriend and friends. I love you all,
without you none of this could be possible! You keep me
going.

every
month”
17 • HIP HOP MAGAZINE
Q: How long have you been doing music? And what inspired you?
A: “I've been singing all of my life, since I could remember. However I was really shy about
it as a kid. During high school I would perform at talent shows and started writing my
own lyrics and poems. In 2020, when the pandemic hit, I had a lot of time to teach myself
how to record and edit vocals. After hours of Youtube videos, I bought all the equipment
to set up a home studio and started to record my own music.
I released my very first single "Not the One" on June 2nd, 2020. Since then I've been
consistently releasing music once a month. I always knew I was born to make music. The
idea of going my entire life without having tried to pursue my passion was an unbearable
thought. I told myself that if I didn't try, then I already failed myself. That was my
inspiration to take the initial step.“
Q: Where we’re you born? City you live? or rep?
Q: Music plans for 2023? Album? Mixtape?
A: ”I was born and raised in Brampton, Ontario. If you don't know where that is, it's a
city in the GTA of Toronto, just west of downtown Toronto.“
A: “So far for 2023 I've released a single called "BACK TO YOU". The music video for
this single drops on February 10th on my Youtube channel IamBabyRay. I will be
releasing a new single every month, some with music videos, as well as some remixes
and covers too. I'm doing plenty of shows around and outside of the GTA so look out
for BabyRay!
I knew from the start of my
pursuit that I would have to work
twice as hard to get the recognition
Q: Who or what inspires you musically?
A: One of my biggest influences is Michael Jackson. I was a dancer
growing up, before I became a singer, so he really motivated my
dancing. I would learn the choreography to his routines in his
music videos. My mom taught me how to moonwalk at like 4
years old. Some of my other musical influences include Chris
Brown, Mariah Carey, Ariana Grande, Britney Spears and many
more.

Q: Have you experienced any obstacles that you
have had to overcome within the industry?
Thus far in my career, the only obstacle I would say I've had is
getting taken seriously. Being a young women in a predominantly
male dominated industry, it's easy to get over looked and
underestimated. I knew from the start of my pursuit that I would
have to work twice as hard to get the recognition, and I was ready
for the challenge. At this point in my career I'm starting to get that
recognition and the name BabyRay is starting to hold weight in the
city.
Q: How was your childhood? Was
music a big thing in your family?
A: “Music was introduced to me at a super
young age. My mom has a deep love for 80s
and 90s Pop, R&B and Hip-Hop. She exposed
us to all kinds of artists who shaped my
artistry today. I had a pretty average, middle
class childhood. I have one brother, however
my cousins and I are basically siblings as
well. We spent most of our days at our
grandparents' house while our parents
worked. We would sing, listen to music, play
video games and meet our friends outside
everyday.”
BABYRAY
Q: what do you want the fans to take from you’re music? (Youth, day ones, family, the
world)
A: My goal for my music is to give people something to turn up to, cry to, relate to and just
vibe to. I want my audience to really enjoy and feel my music. Each song that I make tells a
story or has a message that I hope my audience can relate to. I want to entertain people and
give them good quality music to really enjoy.
Q: where can the fans find you (socials networks)
A: Y'all can find me on all social medias, Instagram, Tiktok and Twitter at @iam_babyray. On
Youtube my channel is IamBabyRay. And on all music streaming platforms, it's BabyRay.
Q: when your in the booth do you feel pressure? Do you go into your sessions alone
or with a team?
A: Since I'm my own engineer and have a home studio, I'm usually alone. I have gone to
other studios and collaborated with other artists and I really enjoyed those sessions. However
I do prefer to be alone or with my team.
Q: is there a particular artist signed or unsigned that you’d like to feature/work
with?
A: I would absolutely love to work with Chris Brown and Ariana Grande in
the future. My style really matches both of them so I think we'd make a
real hit.
Q: Do you feel Canadian talent is under looked? Or the eyes are on us?
A: I definitely feel that Canadian artists are under looked. There are very
limited opportunities for artists in Canada compared to the States and most
feel the need to move to further their career. However I do think progress
has been made and Canadians are starting to get the recognition.
Q: Is there anyone you’d like to give a shout to?
A: Absolutely! I would love to shoutout my team, Mato and Matonomous
Productions, Special K Promo, my mom, dad and family. I would also like
to say a huge thank you all of my fans and people supporting me. I
wouldn't be here without you all and it means more than you know. Thank
you Made In Canada.

MR.SATURDAY
23.
Featuring iconography inspired by vintage travel ephemera in the
form of embroidery, patches, and prints. Combining Mr. Saturday's
retro-futurist aesthetic with effortless comfort and style that Roots
is known for.
From ‘60s psychedelia to ‘90s rave euphoria, designer Joey Gollish traces links between
subcultures and established norms. With Mr. Saturday, double entendre and postmodern
pastiche undermine classic styles and conventional silhouettes. A preppy ecru cardigan is
the picture of American innocence, but the words Good Luck—knit into the left breast—
sarcastically fracture the wholesome facade. A muted knit crewneck unexpectedly centers
a Grim Reaper graphic, a reference to a subcultural pamphlet from ‘70s New York. Varsity
bombers, hoodies, and faded denims feature iconography borrowed from the bygone
Mudd Club. Mr. Saturday’s irreverent aesthetic reveals the creative potency of nostalgia,
drawing from the past to destabilize our understanding of the present. Whether it be
spring, summer, fall or winter, there is one thing that remains constant about Joey Gollish’s
label Mr. Saturday. It is continued combinational reverence and exploration of high-
moment in culture.
Mr. Saturday is an emerging, storytelling
brand founded by 28-year old Toronto-
based designer, Joey Gollish. Mr. Saturday
explores moments in history through his
designs, with a focus on night-life and
party subculture. He has been featured in
top outlets including Vogue, Highsnobiety,
Hypebeast, WWD, and GQ. The brand
recently debuted it’s Spring/Summer 2022
campaign on the Paris Fashion Week
Calendar and continues to push
boundaries for runway fashion in Canada.
Toronto-based brand’s Spring/Summer
2023 show popped the lid on the history of
European cabaret with its “Sex & Politics:
Shadow Play At Le Chat Noir” runway show.
Now for the Fall/Winter 2023 season, Mr.
Saturday kept its feet in Europe but
headed over to France to explore the rich
history of Paris’ Les Bains Douches

collection include oversized cotton ballon
pants alongside a black calfskin leather
trucker jacket with coordinating pants and
shearling lining details.

What other social media do you use other than

How would you describe your
video style?
what inspires you when your shooting music videos?
Do you already see the direction
of a video before shooting?
“Born in Toronto, Ontario but grew up around
Ontario mainly in Mississauga.”
I picked up a Camera 10 years ago, filming nightclubs
an eventually moving into music videos. That stemmed
from just wanting to shoot short films and
documentaries on at risk youth.
I’ll give you both signed and unsigned Signed -
PartyNextDoor
Unsigned - Harvey Stripes
Business wise, I use Facebook, IG, Twitter & YouTube
My style as a director / videographer
is a very clean cinematic visual bring
back the rawness of music videos
from when I was brought up.
As previously stated, I wanted to film short films an
documentaries on at risk youth and coming from the
upbringing I had I could never afford film school for
nightclubs, concerts an music videos was my film school. I
never expected to be a popular director in the city and I
still don’t consider myself as “Popular”.
The hiphop industry has literally saved my life.
When I listen to music I see a crazy
vision and sometimes I have to
dumb it down because the budget
does not match the vision, but we
always make it work no matter if
your budget is $1,000 or $100,000.
A Music video is supposed to bring
the song to life visually.
Have you experienced any obstacles that you have
had to overcome within the industry?
what is your ideal turnaround time?
I’ve definitely experienced obstacles being in the game
from years ago if you filmed a video for one artist you
automatically couldn’t work with someone from another
area because there was beef between the two of them.
Being a business this was hard as there’s so many
amazing artists in the city and you’re not able to work
with some because of who you might have shot for
before. I push a positive narritive where I have love for
everyone, no matter where you’re from everyone is
treated equally.
An Ideal turn around time is 2 weeks, but realistically somtimes we can’t meet that
so we say 4-6 weeks JUST incase we get busy. It’s always better to over shoot the
turn around and give sooner than expected. I do like to close out the edit and come
back to it later with fresh eyes.

"Body" or pop-rap anthems like this year's "In My
Zone," he demonstrates an eye for details and one of
rap's most unique flows. As a result, Buy or Bye 2 shows
Smiley at his most confident, celebrating making it out
of the hood to live among the stars while working hard
to become one in his own right. It's clear with the
success he's achieved so far, that he's well on his way.

Born in Sudan, bred in Edmonton Canada, destined for
stages around the world; Mouraine is a name to pay
attention to. His debut EP Bigger Dreams, released via
Birthday Cake Records in 2021 received props from
Complex, The Source, CBC, Earmilk, Exclaim!, RANGE, If
It’s Too Loud, Hip Hop Canada and more. After hustling
in the underground for the past few years, Mouraine is
quickly making moves to emerge into the limelight on
the brink of his breakthrough full-length album, In
Search of Gold. Slated for release in the spring of 2023,
the project is a collaboration with producer duo
deadmen (Begonia, Royal Canoe, Ashleigh Ball, Ian
Sweet), with features from his brother MOTO, Canadian
R&B icon JRDN, and a few surprise appearances.
As a young, first-generation immigrant to Canada, Mouraine
first learned to speak English through his insatiable appetite
for music. Hip Hop, Rap and R&B lyrics became his teacher, his
solace, and his inspiration to use this language as a tool for self
expression and survival. By the age of 11 he began writing,
recording and performing original music that would lead to
sharing stages with the likes of Mac Miller, J.Cole, T-Pain, Big
Sean, Pusha T, Classified, and Shad. Mouraine’s music has been
placed in Footlocker Ads, played live at Toronto Raptors NBA
games, awarded him accolades from his community and peers,
and continues to infect audiences around the world. His songs
delve into Mouraine’s personal life story and deliver an
intimate vulnerability

B.ROB is a Canadian independent singer,
songwriter & rapper. Born in Toronto, B.ROB has
taken a strong interest in music from a very young
age, with experience playing a range of
instruments. Growing up in the East side of
Toronto, in his late teenage years B.ROB quickly
emerged as a top urban DJ, headlining at festivals
and performing weekly residencies at some of the
top clubs in the city. B.ROB spent the last three
years living in London, UK where he continued his
success and established himself as an
international DJ, fully immersing himself in the
British music scene and culture. B.ROB has been
song writing his whole life, but made the decision
to focus on recording his own music while in
quarantine .
Upon his return home, B.ROB has quickly emerged as
one of the hottest upcoming artists, releasing “East
End” and “Ask About Me” in December of 2020. Both
tracks have done well on streaming platforms and has
over 23K views on YouTube. His music has been
played on Toronto’s biggest radio station for hip hop
music Flow 93.5 and on one of the UK’s biggest radio
stations Kiss FM. B.ROB recently announced his
mixtape ‘Undeniable’ officially set for release March
9th 2023. He has since dropped hits such as featured
off this mixtape titled ‘TREASON’ & ‘BEST OF ME’
which are making noise around the GTA and beyond.
B. Rob follows the Canadian rap mosaic by
enlightening us through melodic rap. The sub-genre
popularized by Drake swirls with the beat as it gives
us a sound to vibe to.

Canadian artist Night Lovell continues the
trend of teenage rappers who are starting their
career at about the same time that peers are
stuck at home, doing physics homework. His
debut album, much like Lil Wayne, was released
at the age of seventeen. The Czech audience
has an opportunity to see the young musician
on October 20 in the Prague Roxy club. Rappers
get a lot of bad reps for social misconduct, and
they often get misjudged. Night Lovell is unlike
any rapper you’ve met. Like all Canadians, he’s
down-to-earth, low-key, and humble.
Night Lovell’s music career sort of blew up
overnight. He’s famous for his first hit single Dark
Night (2014), with more than 62 million views on
YouTube. He’s also quite popular in the car scene,
not because of his 1,500 hp Lamborghini, but
because his music gets featured in many car
videos.Night Lovell recently released a creepy
visual for his latest record, ‘Eye Spy’ days before
Halloween 2022. Locked out of an office building, a
young man with an afro tries to get into a venue to
torture everyone.

Born in Toronto, Canada, Taaylee G is the city’s
in-your-face, say-it-like-it-is, female MC. The
artist’s impactful bars always manage to catch
the attention of the listener. Having been
featured in Editorial Playlists such as
“Northern Bars”, “New Music Friday”, and
“Radar Canada”, Taaylee G has drawn some
industry attention within the past year. The
music video for “Glo’d Up” the song is all about
bossing up, getting stuff done, and living out
your dreams. Taylee G is one of the hotter
artists representing the women in the 6ix. She
recently became a mother to a boy and girl.
Taaylee G. is quickly rising in the hip-hop
community with her lyricism, charisma, and
remarkable talent. The multi-faceted artist,
rapper, and songwriter radiates a remarkable
prowess that is enabling Taaylee G. to create her
own musical lane. Her ever-evolving sound is
allowing her to quickly rise in the scene as people
are realizing what she brings to the table. We
caught up with Taaylee G. to find out what
motivates her, her aspirations in the industry, and
more…

One of the big success stories this year in
Canadian music is the rise of Montreal-based
singer-songwriter and rapper Zach Zoya. He has
achieved commercial success with his hit record
“Start Over”, garnering over six million streams on
Spotify and landing him on heavy rotation at hit
radio stations across the country. Zoya is part of a
fledgling anglophone hip-hop and rap scene in
Quebec, parallel to the province's signature rap
queb sound — largely a francophone-led tradition
marked by the use of franglais, melding French and
English, and Quebecois slang, known as joual.
Rouyn-Noranda is also the home of up-and-coming rapper Zach
Zoya. He got his start at 7ième Ciel, but unlike his labelmates, he’s the
rare artist to actually come from the town. He’s also, even more
surprisingly, the lone English rapper on the label. Zoya has always
stood out for these reasons, and now the ambitious 22-year-old is
ready to take on a new challenge: the rest of Canada. He’s signed on
with Universal Music Canada for the release of his Spectrum EP, a
confident opening salvo mixing bars with leftfield pop instincts.
Growing up in a small French-speaking town in Quebec, Rouyn-
Noranda, singer Zach Zoya wasn’t exactly surrounded by a vibrant
music scene. However, with his South African and French-Canadian
heritage, he was exposed to a variety of sounds regardless – from
African music to American soul and pop, Zoya’s musical palette
developed immensely.

  • 6. Since day one, the community has pushed us to curate the most premium cannabis in the country. We’re not growers, we’re a brand house. We are consistently working with our award-winning grower and breeder partners to hunt and create the most interesting, unique, and potent cannabis strains in Canada. Born in the Dark Anonymous and hidden, Ghost Drops started in a nondescript warehouse with one ambition: to shine a light on the most talented peopleworkingin the darkest corners of the industry. The Ghost was always something experienced but not seen— discreetly dropping the most interesting and innovative cannabis products to the most discerningconsumers in the legacy market. Our notoriety grew and each new strain delivery became known on thestreets as a “Ghost Drop”. In operation since 2017, we launched into the legal market in Canada in 2021. If you know, you know. Our legacy strain art was killer. But the viral marketing that made us infamous in the legacy market isn’t allowed under Canadian cannabis regulations in the legal market. So we’re keeping the strain art alive in another way – as limited edition NFTs. Digitally, our OG legacy lives on. w w w.ghostdrops.co m I S S U E 0 3 | M A R

Q: Where we’re you born? City you live? or rep? Q: Music plans for 2023? Album? Mixtape? Q: Who inspires you musically in today hiphop Q: How was your childhood? Was music a big thing in your family? Q: Is there a particular artist signed or unsigned that you’d like to work/feature with? A: “I released my first song in August 2019. Up until that point I had been writing poetry since I was very young. My oldest brother, who artistically goes by “Pik”, has and is still my biggest musical inspiration. He was the first person to tell me that rap is like poetry paired with a beat.“ A: “I was born in Calgary but I moved to Vancouver in 2020. I proudly rep both cities.” A: “I have big ideas and plans for 2023 including a lot more visuals, collabs, and likely an EP and/or my first full length album. Since getting sober, I have been working on finding a balance in my music to also represent myself on a deeper level.” A: “As mentioned earlier, my oldest brother Pik is my biggest musical inspiration but I love listening to all genres of music to be inspired. I also like to take from my own experiences and my everyday life. My fellow artist and good friend YellowBunny also inspires me and continues to amaze me with all of the obstacles she has overcome. She reminds me that I can do anything I set my mind to and how healing music truly is.“ A: “I had a great childhood. I have two older brothers and an older sister. I’m close with all of my family. I feel that most female artists, myself included, often get looked over or considered at best as being “good for a girl.” I’ve never accepted that as a compliment as I know that my music as well as many other female artists’ are highly talented and not just “for a girl.” Covid was also something that I think all artists had to navigate with not being able to do shows and trying to find ways to continue connecting with the world.” A: “As an openly bisexual female, I want people to take away the message to never apolgize for being who they are. A: “I've been singing all of my life, since I could remember. However I was really shy about it as a kid. During high school I would perform at talent shows and started writing my own lyrics and poems. In 2020, when the pandemic hit, I had a lot of time to teach myself how to record and edit vocals. After hours of Youtube videos, I bought all the equipment to set up a home studio and started to record my own music. I released my very first single "Not the One" on June 2nd, 2020. Since then I've been consistently releasing music once a month. I always knew I was born to make music. The idea of going my entire life without having tried to pursue my passion was an unbearable thought. I told myself that if I didn't try, then I already failed myself. That was my inspiration to take the initial step.“ Q: Where we’re you born? City you live? or rep? Q: Music plans for 2023? Album? Mixtape? A: ”I was born and raised in Brampton, Ontario. If you don't know where that is, it's a city in the GTA of Toronto, just west of downtown Toronto.“ A: “So far for 2023 I've released a single called "BACK TO YOU". I knew from the start of my pursuit that I would have to work twice as hard to get the recognition, and I was ready for the challenge. At this point in my career I'm starting to get that recognition and the name BabyRay is starting to hold weight in the city. Q: How was your childhood? Was music a big thing in your family? A: “Music was introduced to me at a super young age. My mom has a deep love for 80s and 90s Pop, R&B and Hip-Hop. She exposed us to all kinds of artists who shaped my artistry today. I had a pretty average, middle class childhood. I have one brother, however my cousins and I are basically siblings as well. From ‘60s psychedelia to ‘90s rave euphoria, designer Joey Gollish traces links between subcultures and established norms. With Mr. Saturday, double entendre and postmodern pastiche undermine classic styles and conventional silhouettes. A preppy ecru cardigan is the picture of American innocence, but the words Good Luck—knit into the left breast— sarcastically fracture the wholesome facade. A muted knit crewneck unexpectedly centers a Grim Reaper graphic, a reference to a subcultural pamphlet from ‘70s New York. Varsity bombers, hoodies, and faded denims feature iconography borrowed from the bygone Mudd Club. Mr. Saturday’s irreverent aesthetic reveals the creative potency of nostalgia, drawing from the past to destabilize our understanding of the present. (Signed or unsigned) What other social media do you use other than Instagram? How would you describe your video style? what inspires you when your shooting music videos? Do you already see the direction of a video before shooting? “Born in Toronto, Ontario but grew up around Ontario mainly in Mississauga.” I picked up a Camera 10 years ago, filming nightclubs an eventually moving into music videos. That stemmed from just wanting to shoot short films and documentaries on at risk youth. I’ll give you both signed and unsigned Signed - PartyNextDoor Unsigned - Harvey Stripes Business wise, I use Facebook, IG, Twitter & YouTube My style as a director / videographer is a very clean cinematic visual bring back the rawness of music videos from when I was brought up. As previously stated, I wanted to film short films an documentaries on at risk youth and coming from the upbringing I had I could never afford film school for nightclubs, concerts an music videos was my film school. I never expected to be a popular director in the city and I still don’t consider myself as “Popular”. The hiphop industry has literally saved my life. When I listen to music I see a crazy vision and sometimes I have to dumb it down because the budget does not match the vision, but we always make it work no matter if your budget is $1,000 or $100,000. A Music video is supposed to bring the song to life visually.
  • 36. Have you experienced any obstacles that you have had to overcome within the industry? what is your ideal turnaround time? I’ve definitely experienced obstacles being in the game from years ago if you filmed a video for one artist you automatically couldn’t work with someone from another area because there was beef between the two of them. Being a business this was hard as there’s so many amazing artists in the city and you’re not able to work with some because of who you might have shot for before. I push a positive narritive where I have love for everyone, no matter where you’re from everyone is treated equally. An Ideal turn around time is 2 weeks, but realistically somtimes we can’t meet that so we say 4-6 weeks JUST incase we get busy. It’s always better to over shoot the turn around and give sooner than expected. I do like to close out the edit and come back to it later with fresh eyes.

  • 45. Z A C H Z O Y A Q U E B E C One of the big success stories this year in Canadian music is the rise of Montreal-based singer-songwriter and rapper Zach Zoya. He has achieved commercial success with his hit record “Start Over”, garnering over six million streams on Spotify and landing him on heavy rotation at hit radio stations across the country. Zoya is part of a fledgling anglophone hip-hop and rap scene in Quebec, parallel to the province's signature rap queb sound — largely a francophone-led tradition marked by the use of franglais, melding French and English, and Quebecois slang, known as joual. Rouyn-Noranda is also the home of up-and-coming rapper Zach Zoya. He got his start at 7ième Ciel, but unlike his labelmates, he’s the rare artist to actually come from the town. He’s also, even more surprisingly, the lone English rapper on the label. Zoya has always stood out for these reasons, and now the ambitious 22-year-old is ready to take on a new challenge: the rest of Canada. He’s signed on with Universal Music Canada for the release of his Spectrum EP, a confident opening salvo mixing bars with leftfield pop instincts. Growing up in a small French-speaking town in Quebec, Rouyn- Noranda, singer Zach Zoya wasn’t exactly surrounded by a vibrant music scene. However, with his South African and French-Canadian heritage, he was exposed to a variety of sounds regardless – from African music to American soul and pop, Zoya’s musical palette developed immensely.
