Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI) Senior Scientist and Whale Shark
Researcher.

       *FREE PLANET SHARK SPEAKER SERIES
“Leviathans Three: Tracking the Mysterious Movements of Planet Ocean’s Largest Sharks”
       Speaker: Dr. Simon Thorrold
Wednesday, May 9 from 7-9 p.m./Planet Shark: Predator or Prey traveling exhibition open to
       lecture attendees from 5-7 p.m.
TI Founders IMAX® Theater, MNS Science Building (1318 South Second Avenue in Fair Park)

Presented in partnership with Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI), MNS brings you
experts in exciting fields of oceanography with Planet Shark Speaker Series. Listen to and
engage with industry experts in various fields of oceanography.

              About Dr. Simon Thorrold
Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI) Senior Scientist and Whale
              Shark Researcher

Dr. Thorrold’s research addresses critical questions and problems facing
ocean life through the lens of the Ocean Life Institute, which studies the full
range of marine organisms from bacteria to whales and combines traditional
              oceanography with marine conservation.

Using techniques that span isotope geochemistry, DNA sequencing and
satellite archival tags, he studies dispersal of reef fish larvae, movements of
juvenile and adult reef fishes within coral reef seascapes and ocean basin
scale migrations of swordfish and sharks. This important work can be used to
evaluate the effectiveness of Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) to see if they
are contributing to fish populations outside of the MPA’s human-described
              borders.
*Speaker Series lectures are free, but reservation is required for admission. Tickets include access to
the traveling exhibition, Planet Shark: Predator or Prey before the lecture. To reserve your ticket, go

A long time ago, there was a magical world of castles, knights, princesses, wizards and dragon tales.
Take an imaginary step back in time exploring a fantasy world of children’s literature through fairy
tales, folk tales, legends and myths. Each week is aimed to spark creativity and imagination. Make
mystical potions and discover the celestial night time sky, hear all about dragons and dinosaurs,
princesses and knights, and so much more. Some tales will make you wonder, some will make you
think, some will make you giggle, but all will open a world of imagination!

       Members: $105/week
       Non-members: $120/week
